All this repetitive concern/apprehension about player XYZ not being ready to return for the game

Same stuff was being trotted out just over a week ago about Doc, that he wasn't in full training and or wasn't going to start contact work until end of year

Every club has players with niggles and injury concerns, who will be assessed and compared to lesser quality players, in terms of likely output

Funnily enough, as long as his knee is fine, Doc will probably be the most injury free player on the ground.

Watching Q4 of round 0.
From commentary team...
"This game turned on it's head when the Blues started deliberately putting speed on the ball".
And it's true. That's what happened in 3rd.
I wonder why we haven't done this more often.

Hope Cripps, Walsh, Charlie, Harry and others get the same looking after Fagen!
So does Cripps. Gets held every contest just about, let's see how much the umpires watch Dunkley.

The player I think I saw get held more than anyone else but not be protected was Judd. I swear he was mauled every game, every contest, but was told to get on with it.

I’m hoping we have a few tricks up our sleeve Stkilda game we switched the ball a bit more opened the ground back to the corridor and ran.
We were worked out a bit by the opposition I reckon having some better kicks in the team enables us to really spring from the back half or any turnover.
I think the coaches would know safe down the boundary isn’t going to win the game but grinding it down therewith pressure and contest will make the centre open up.

Ha, I rewatched that game the other day too.

I'd say we're not doing it more often coz we lack the confidence and execution to do it and not get burnt by turnovers. That team wasn't a whole lot different to what we had to finish the season (West Coast and St Kilda games aside) but the difference in how that team looked and played compared with currently is just staggering. Some of the kicks they were biting off and hitting, the run and create from behind ball, all that stuff just seemed to evaporate in the last 1/3 of the season.

Confidence and fitness probably the biggest factors imo. Hell even Lewis Young in that round 0 game looked relatively composed with ball in hand and was hitting good release kicks, unbelievable.

Early round games often go that way as teams aren't match fit and games open up due to fatigue way more in the 2nd halves. Doesn't happen as much after ~round 3/4 once the match KMs get into the legs of the players.

I want to see us win this, celebrate for one minute, then have Crippa speak into a channel 7 camera with the look of a determined Gladiator and announce "3 more to go", then just walk off as a team and get ready to win interstate next week again.

Yep :(

Loving the passion in this thread but we need to temper expectations a bit, I don't think we get within 6 goals of Brisbane and if we somehow pull out a win for the ages its off to Sydney next week, just ain't gonna happen.

I just hope they realise what a great chance they blew this year and it fuels them in '25. Would be nice to finally have a season where they don't forget how to play footy for 1/3 of it.
Yeah, pack of dumb ass fools, all getting injured at the same time deliberately. FMD.

According to The Age, Adam Cerra is a "reasonable chance" of being named.

If this is a risk/reward conversation then I am not taking that gamble.
If there's one thing I've learned about Cez since joining Carlton is that he isn't the type to come back from injury and hit the ground running. He needs a few games to heat up.

Not a knock, just pointing it out. Some guys are able to come right back in like nothing happened and some aren't.

Someone should tell horse with Papley and others returning, Kenny with Butters, etc
Incorrect, only Carlton carry injured players. You should also know that the umpires hate us and love every team playing against us. Also, you may have heard, the AFL hate us. Or so I've been told.

Sure is hard being Carlton :(

3rd of 4th Hammy this year, probably lost confidence in the body. I am sure if he has a full pre-season he be back up and about.

It never works for more than a couple of very short phases in a game. We never fail to turn the ball over when we tey and play safe. You just wait for it to happen. Yes, mixing it up...for sure.

So 22 missing out on finals in the last minute of the season which fuelled a horrendous start to 23 which required herculean effort to make finals, magically a prelim winning by the barest of margins to then run on fumes post the first quarter since we butchered the first half of the season. This disappointment fuelled a decent start to 24 but with lapses in the Adelaide game and the two Pies games which we should've won 2 if not 3 of those, we'd be sitting now in the top 4 or at worst top 6 with at least a home final to start with.

Sadly we keep hoping that something fuels them and somewhere along the line it's either strategy, injury, mindset, fatigue that keeps us going around in circles never making things easy for ourselves.

Partly this year the change in holding the ball clearly impacted our style, lack of continuity with 8-10 players consistently being injured, and some weird MC and coaching calls at times.

What I want to see is hammer and tongs this final series, be fuelled now to make something of it. Last time we fell into the 8 like this was when * got booted, took our opportunity and beat Richmond with a little help from a Subway footlong and a Judd led come back.

We've won a run of 5 and 6 games this season against tough opponents. It's there somewhere. If we're refreshed enough and ready and how mentally into things Russell is ATM to keep them fresh and healthy. How creative is Hansen going to be tactically. So go crazy give it everything, when all things considered if we fall out Saturday, in a semi or prelim again we have a whole pre-season to get things right with a new lens on fitness and a bit of a list clean up.

that first half though...plenty of head scratching moments
St Kilda fans would probably say the same in the 2nd half. Considering it was what, 14-2 at half time? If not worse? They would probably ask why the 2nd half was 3-13 to us.

Not so coincidentally the run of free kicks lined up with who had momentum. Just another case of both teams having ammo to blame umpires, if we win they say the umpires got us there. They win and we say the umpiring favoured them.

I would say: I'd rather the dumb lumbering oaf plays. But i suspect like Tim Membrey and other shit forwards he would probably have a day out. If we were anyone but us, I'd rather he play. But since we're Carlton he'll probably kick 3 against us.
Read my mind.
