McGovern Young Newman
Saad Weitering Docherty
Acres Cripps Hollands
Hollands Curnow Williams
Motlop McKay Kemp
DeKoning Walsh Hewett
Cowan

Rest of the bench from: Kennedy Moir Cincotta Lord Fantasia

Roll the dice, see if we can win. The Docherty call will be interesting. Very very keen to play Moir in some form, he has it. Do we want Lord or Kennedy in the middle? Cincotta probably needs to be there incase Docherty breaks down. Lord has laid a lot of tackles, he's been good, will be considered over Kennedy for defensive reasons. Fantasia my be considered if we want another specialist forward or don't think Moir is up to it.

I don't think we will roll the dice on Martin. We might consider Boyd. IMO Cerra is done for the year, no way should he come in.

Kemp applies pressure just as effectively if not more than any of our small forwards.

He’s very quick and agile.

Kennedy not so much.
I see Kemp playing Owies role. Owies pretty much plays as a third tall despite being short, it's just how he plays the game, as a leading marking forward.

Would way prefer Martin to Motlop. Boyd has been weird after being so good.
Dunno Where he's at. Carroll was super I thought. Too bad he got injured. I wondered why it wasn't Jesse off at the time.
I love Moir as sub, so not sure where that leaves Doch.

I thought Martin was out with a Hamstring? I would prefer Doch over Moir as a sub if he was fit.

Boyd has a abductor injury from the report I read. Based on experience on this injury, it is so difficult to run. Because it hurts to stop and start when sprinting.

Disagree, we had plenty out for the Swans game.

Our poor run started 9 weeks ago, we had a relatively healthy list for a fair few of them. Injuries are an issue but form is arguably a bigger one.
100%

Pretty over the injuries excuse to be honest, yeah it's been diabolical the last 2 games but we had a grand total of 2 changes vs Hawthorn from the team that beat Geelong by 10 goals.

We copped untimely in-game injuries v GWS and feels like we've been playing whack-a-mole ever since dealing with issues. Completely lost momentum and confidence/mojo. Hopefully the last two weeks are the start of things turning around.

Fair point. Now if we could just transplant Owies' accuracy to Kemp...

Yeah, there is a continuity element and its valid. No surprise Sydney went about 8 weeks without a team change when they were flying.

I just feel like it's not the totality or even the main reason though, something else went wrong there. The mental drop-off, the lack of pressure was pretty evident imo.

I’m just excited to see if we give our latest young kids a crack.

Lord/Binns/Moir just bring enthusiasm, you could just see it when Moir kicked that goal.

Binns in particular has looked every bit capable of playing at the level, I don't think he should be dropped, though he may get squeezed out. As of next year I'd have him as a round 1 starter.

I see lots to work with in Lord, though at the moment is a little fumble/2 touch from time to time but I see plenty of growth here.

Moir I feel like is a great sub. Would love to see him play a full game, but I'm not convinced he has the fitness profile just yet for 3 qtrs. 1.5 qtrs as an impact sub is about perfect for him right now imo.

Since Dunkley has moved to Brisbane they've been able to quell his influence fairly well. Dunkley knows how to tag Cripps so we're going to need to have some others step up.

I'm not writing him off (you can never write him off) but just putting it out there that he's had a tough time recently against them so the others need to step up now.

Frankly the team plays better when they’re underdogs and it’s somewhat more relaxing as a supporter

We have struggled to click back half, but good signs revolving around our pressure of late

Youth might spark some enthusiasm, but never the main ingredient

Some of our better players returning from a freshen up will also help, also a different kind of experience

Over the course of the year, our numbers are still strong in the contested game, that's the main ingredient for finals

Boyd was struggling like all defenders because the midfield pressure was 0. Happy to have him in the side. Good player.

We want at least 3 good two way runners going into finals. Remember how Brisbane torched us off half back in the finals last year? Time we repaid the favour. Saad and a returning Docherty would be great. McGovern, Newman and Cowan offer plenty of flair and run as would Boyd. Young and Weitering are a shoein to take on Daniher and Hipwood.

I named a team with an open bench. I'll have another go at filling in the bench.

McGovern Young Newman
Saad Weitering Docherty
Acres Cripps O Hollands
E Hollands Curnow Williams
Motlop McKay Kemp
DeKoning Walsh Hewett
Cowan Lord Kennedy Moir
Cincotta
Martin Fantasia Binns

E Hollands goes into the wing rotations. Kennedy the forward and midfield rotations. Moir to start. Moir will not miss a game next year unless he is injured or rested. Super impressive, absolutely has IT. Made a massive impact last week coming on. To me he looks like a big game forward and there is no bigger game for him than AFL finals.

If we are going to play Docherty then we play him. Cincotta to sit in as sub incase he goes down. Cincotta has expanded his capabilities playing a bit of midfield and forward this season so he makes a great sub.

I like the three prong marking attack. A smaller player will have to take Kemp. I'd be pushing Kemp up the ground a lot with McKay and Curnow playing pretty deep. Kemp not only adds height, he adds speed. Would effectively be playing Owies role as a leading marking forward, but he's taller and quicker.

Lord has been good for us. He's a pressure mid. We can see why we picked him. He chases well and he tackles well. He fits into our onball group like a glove.

I think we need to be brave with team selections. I think that means we pick the team on talent and performance.

I think Binns will be unlucky to miss but he's not quite there IMO. Fantasia could also be unlucky but Williams is an upgrade.

What about Martin? If he plays it's for either Motlop or Moir. I don't think we can rely on him, he keeps breaking down.

Will we win? I actually think we will win this game. I think with our key players returning it will really spark us. We beat them earlier in the season up there. We lost to them last year but they were a better side IMO.

They key to winning is that we are fresh. The team I have named has the talent to do it. If they are fresh then we are most certainly in with a really big chance.

IMO that is the best side we have fielded all season. Has two proper sized key defenders. Young has been doing well at FB with Weitering CHB. DeKoning is a massive in for us. He's a match winner. Curnow and McKay fresh is scary for any side. But I love finally having a third tall forward. One who isn't a ruckman. Kemp is quick. He's your modern day third tall forward. This will really throw them off IMO. It will change the dynamics of our team.

All I can say is beware a fresh Carlton with all the better players back.

Since he's moving better than ever I reckon he could get off the Dunkley leash, we'll see I guess

Like the boys I’m just enjoying the break and dreaming of what may come.

It’s well documented that our season has involved a series of peaks and troughs. However I’ve managed to see positives even in defeat. The only result that devastated me was the Hawthorn game. I think we’ve scrapped well this year and that’s been reflected in a number of results that could have gone either way. It’s been evident in many games, even defeats, that the team has another gear which results in dominant quarters when the opposition can’t match the level we’re playing at.

The last fortnight has given me reason to think that the group has turned the corner. The pressure and contest has been evident. The Eagles game was just a four quarter effort from players all over the park. The Saints game was a harder assignment but the lift from the team in the second half surprised me. The players who have missed recently must have been inspired by what they have witnessed.

If 6 or 7 players are pushing for selection then that’s a positive for the group. I’m hoping Curnow, McKay, McGovern and Williams come into the team. Owies misses but that still means a few players will be disappointed. I hope a few of the recent replacements manage to keep their spots because building a larger group of players with finals experience is a positive.

I’m currently watching our interstate wins this season prepping myself for a night glued to the telly. It’s 4-2 this year. Hopefully it will be 5-2 after the Brisbane game.

To all those attending the game. Raise the roof. As for me, as always, Go Blues!

Cripps needs to push forward against Dunkley
It seems he has done to a point, he's kicked 5 in the last 4 games against the Lions, 2 in the final last yr and a goal a game in the rest.

In the final he only had 13 touches, but kicked 2 goals, so perhaps down overall but still had an impact on the scoreboard. I'd take 18 and 2 goals from him if being heavily tagged by Dunkley tbh, just means his running mates need to get the job done in the guts.

He is moving brilliantly isn't he, just goes to show how stark the difference was when playing injured under Teague etc. to when he's fit.

It's looked like he's played with a piano on his back at times in his career so seeing him move like he is is just brilliant.
