I also thought Lohmann was bloody good. Especially early when the heat was on. He was good against us too.
I haven’t seen the votes yet but I’m assuming both he and Neale were right up there.
Ah Chee, Andrews and Starcevich as well- what a defence they had yesterday.

. The whole point of academy players is that they are coming from non traditional football backgrounds and being developed outside the elite pathways available in Victoria. If you can send an academy prospect to Melbourne and have him play in those elite leagues you cant claim him as an "academy" player.
That is basically word for word what Leon Cameron ( football manager of the Swans ) said yesterday on the radio . Getting youngsters to make the decision to play Aussie rules ( gave the example of Heeney and a few others ) in preference to Sockaaar and Rugby

Was Ashcroft (14 of possible 15 votes), Neale (8) Ah Chee (7) then Lohmann, who only got one vote. Nobody else got any votes. Right mix of players, but wrong order in my opinion.
I'm shocked Lohmann only got one and that the midfield votes were so stacked on a few.

Lohmann stood out as the most dangerous player and the whole of the midfield was winning the battle for them not one individual imo

Great arguments.
Lohman may have dropped off a bit after half time, whereas Neale was consistently good over 4 quarters. Is he untaggable? So prolific in their forward entries. I know he's not popular here, but he is a magnificent footballer

Yeah I wasn't saying Neale wasn't good before, more that he was their 1 wood and now he isn't required to be.

I wouldn't hold the drop off against Lohmann, the game was over.

I honestly went through about 8 players during the game that could win.
Was calling Lohman "Normie" at quarter time.
Andrews played as well as any defender ever seen by me in a GF, but Starcevich also
Neale, McCluggage, Daniher, Ashcroft, Ah Chee...
They are a very deep and excellent list. Curious it has taken so long to bear fruit.

Which is fair enough (i guess). But how can a guy whose been playing for Sandringham for a year be considered part of their academy? That's the bit i have a problem with. Either he is being developed by Brisbane and can therefore be selected as an academy pick, or he is a part of the elite pathways in Victoria and should be available to anyone.

The way these academies keep changing, or the way the northern teams find ways of exploiting it, is why it wont last for too much longer. On the surface the reason for the academies seems justifiable, but like anything, in practice teams will push the boundaries which undermines the whole system. Academies are not meant to be a pipeline of elite talent to the northen clubs. Im amazed the media havent started talking about Sam and his link to Sandringham while he is an academy player for Brisbane. I suspect that will change as we move into the off season.

Especially where the other academies lose rights if the kid moves. Example Parfitt was in the port academy until he moved from Darwin to Adelaide.

Feel for John Longmire. Very tough press conference made worse with the Lions cheering in the background.

Yeah he did pretty well considering.

He has bigger issues though, something wrong at Sydney. 4 GF losses is bad.

As we know from the 90s.

For those interested in the Gary Ayres medal

See the top five below

Lachie Neale – Brisbane (26.5 votes)

Look, if the game ended at half-time, Lohmann would have won in a landslide.

Yeah, but I think we also know that four losses and one win can just be ascribed to a little bad luck, too. I mean, Brisbane lost their first four games of the year.

I can write off two of the losses - 2022 they really didn't have any right to be there and played their GF the week earlier. 2016, honestly, they should have won but almost everything went against them on the day (not least the umpiring).

2014 and 2024 are the shockers.

Does this result diminish the 2022 GF result?

Well i think you can go right back to when Haw flogged them in a GF ( and prior to the Swans losing or getting demolished in 2 of their next 3 GFs

Hawthorn supporters at that point ( and im not bagging them ) were saying this was the best exhibition of football we have ever displayed in a GF blah blah blah blah - it was just so utterly fantastic how well we played blah blah blah

So at the present time , 3 premiership teams ( not one ) have looked like world beaters playing the Swans in a GF -not that the supporters of those 3 teams could careless because they have got the respective premiership cups
