Being uncontracted we haven't got that much sway. Perhaps a 2nd rounder (this year or a future) gets it done to avoid him going to the draft.
Fair chance it'll be a third rounder at best, that's often the going rate for a fringe player changing clubs for more opportunity. We gave up pick 44 for Bedford by comparison.

the fact that he is playing will see it being a little more than that

Wild to think we are likely going to lose one of only two guys from Western Sydney on our list in Peatling.
A guy who we have arguably put more time in than anyone else given his years in our academy, followed by further years of developing him in our VFL squad and getting him to a level to be drafted as a rookie, and currently a best 22 player. If ever there ever was a need for a targeted cola this is it.

Agree, particularly with 2 academy grads in Perryman and Cumming likely to go in the same year. They should be the poster boys for aspiring Western Sydney kids. It's a tough balance between keeping these guys competitively compensated and maintaining a balanced list.

The problem is clubs pay well overs for free agents.
Everybody does it, but everybody then complains about compo picks that stretches out the first round to pick 26 or so.
They shouldn't scrap compensation, but make signing club give up something ( but after say 12 years, no compensation required).
I mentioned this on afl trade radio to Damien Barrett, but didn't get much like for the idea.

If this is the case I hope they let us know so we can say goodbye
Yes. Ward, Haynes and Kennedy are 3 original Giants, and with their contracts expiring this year, it would be good if the club gives them an appropriate farewell if they are not to be re-signed. We will have 1 more home game during the finals, so presumably that could be the occasion?

4 year offer… should get a 2nd round pick with that.
With our contracts we are always gonna lose depth guys like this.
Do we think his ceiling is much higher than he's performing now? Probably not.

I think he's been great though and would love to keep him.

Agree with both of those.

If Peatling can get 4 years at the $600k he should knock them down rushing to sign the deal. Good on him.

He has played great this year and earnt that. We cant match that, and nor should we.

I’m also keen to see Leake and Rowston after a couple of preseasons.
we will probably add another decent one this draft as well. More if lose one or both of Cumming and Perryman.
