I agree that Sydney is very expensive for the average Joe, but professional footballers don’t have that concern. In fact they’re in a much better position to buy property and make money through their investment.

Agree but maybe there should be more assistance for both Swans / Giants from AFL in the next CBA with an increase in living allowances for the rookie listed players, especially Cat.B

It is definitely a factor. Add in that Adelaide, melb Perth also offer more revenue streams such as sponsorships or paid advertising than the Sydney market and the overall loss adds up

As Danny88 said, in pure/real terms, they are not poor. But it's relative. Working elsewhere than Sydney gets them two benefits (1) cheaper cost of living & (2) access to third party deals and post-career work. So it's harder to attract them to play for the club.

If the interest in Stringer is actually lukewarm I'd be disappointed.

Cadman is coming along well (better than I expected, probably thanks to no longer having Riccardi in the same team).

Riccardi is 3rd fiddle tall forward. Doubt that he'll get a game in the firsts unless either Cadman or Hogan are injured.

Where will Stringer fit in the lineup?

It’s quite bizarre. Is Sydney that bad/expensive a place to live? Most of us seem to manage on about 1/4 of the average AFL player salary.

Crowd numbers and lack of atmosphere would be a big factor for most. Some players would be opposite and prefer the different lifestyle but I think if all were honest they would prefer to have better crowds to play in front of.

Yep but unlike Peatling he was still contracted for another season. But we should hold out for the best possible deal.
