It will be a real "maybe he will, maybe he won't". He's below that main tier of midfielders (whom I have as Jagga Smith, Sid Draper, Finn O'Sullivan, Sam Lalor, Harvey Langford, Josh Smillie & Murphy Reid - excluding the F/A and academy kids), but looks likely to be a reliable player, so could easily go anywhere in that 10 to 14 range just ahead of us. It will depend on which (and how many) clubs go for talls or small forwards rather than mids. We need a few of them to reach and not dilute the midfielder pool.I'd be really happy if Lindsay slides to us.
Not quite sure who I want with the other picks just yet.
If we're confident of his midfield craft holding up he'd be worth our first pickI like what this kid has done. A mid-forward who is creative with the ball and kicks goals. Compared to - and models his game on - Toby Greene.
I just can't see that he fits into our squad with the totality of his game, unfortunately.
Footy nut on doubters, competitive streak and hanging with 'Rowelly'
Jesse Dattoli, rated a top-25 prospect in this year's draft, lives, breathes and eats footywww.afl.com.au
That where I'm just not confident that it would. If we're confident of his midfield craft holding up he'd be worth our first pick
He's got a lot of similarities to Lachie Neale stylistically and has the temperament and drive to translate at the next level, and I'd also argue we need a smaller midfielder to compliment Green and Callaghan in the long run, as good as those two are, every successful midfield group has had a player or two that's genuinely elite at ground level (hence why I rate Jagga Smith so highly), and we currently lack that quality. That where I'm just not confident that it would.
We've got a load of small/medium forward who "can run through" the midfield, but I think we're missing the grunt midfielders that we need.
What are your thoughts in more depth?
perhaps Brent Daniels fills that roleHe's got a lot of similarities to Lachie Neale stylistically and has the temperament and drive to translate at the next level, and I'd also argue we need a smaller midfielder to compliment Green and Callaghan in the long run, as good as those two are, every successful midfield group has had a player or two that's genuinely elite at ground level (hence why I rate Jagga Smith so highly), and we currently lack that quality.
In your draft ratings, you've ranked him above Tom Gross, of who you've previously spoken well. What are the differences between them, and what would shape you to select one over the other if you were picking for GWS?He's got a lot of similarities to Lachie Neale stylistically and has the temperament and drive to translate at the next level, and I'd also argue we need a smaller midfielder to compliment Green and Callaghan in the long run, as good as those two are, every successful midfield group has had a player or two that's genuinely elite at ground level (hence why I rate Jagga Smith so highly), and we currently lack that quality.
Gross is a better contested player and athlete currently, Dattoli is has better Footy IQ and skillsIn your draft ratings, you've ranked him above Tom Gross, of who you've previously spoken well. It'd be nice to get Callaghan putting pen to paper on a longer term deal. Having a firm commitment from him and knowing with certainty the core that we're building around would probably dictate the midfield type we'd be afterHe's got a lot of similarities to Lachie Neale stylistically and has the temperament and drive to translate at the next level, and I'd also argue we need a smaller midfielder to compliment Green and Callaghan in the long run, as good as those two are, every successful midfield group has had a player or two that's genuinely elite at ground level (hence why I rate Jagga Smith so highly), and we currently lack that quality.
Freo have basically said they won't take him. I wonder if Eagles are thinking the same thing.Roughly to the Eagles, or so I suspect they're hoping.
I'm guessing 10 to 14 of the current pick range (pushed back by F/S and academy picks).Where will Bo Allan go roughly?
Who from Freo? If it's just BF posters, I wouldn't be sure that Freo's recruiters agree. They are probably good for talls, small forwards & rucks. So, Allan fits an opportunity IMHO.Freo have basically said they won't take him. I wonder if Eagles are thinking the same thing.
David Walls has essentially said "Love him as a player, our guys love playing with him (at Peel) but he's not really a need for us we have a lot of guys in that position."Who from Freo? Yeah this is what I was referencing but and it would be VERY strange 'foxing'.David Walls has essentially said "Love him as a player, our guys love playing with him (at Peel) but he's not really a need for us we have a lot of guys in that position."
We'd take the best small forward at that pick I'd guess.
Cheers, thanks for that. As I said in an earlier post, it's really hard (as an outsider) to judge who Freo would take. You seem well stocked in most areas. While I understand it's someone from the club making a definitive statement ... I wonder whether it's actually a red herring.David Walls has essentially said "Love him as a player, our guys love playing with him (at Peel) but he's not really a need for us we have a lot of guys in that position."
