At October’s national combine, several senior coaches — including Richmond’s Adem Yze, Melbourne’s Simon Goodwin and Giants’ Adam Kingsley — sat in on chats. “They seemed pretty switched on and pretty serious!” top-five prospect Jagga Smith said of meeting Goodwin and Kingsley.

I like what this kid has done. A mid-forward who is creative with the ball and kicks goals. Compared to - and models his game on - Toby Greene.

I just can't see that he fits into our squad with the totality of his game, unfortunately.

I'd be really happy if Lindsay slides to us.
Not quite sure who I want with the other picks just yet.
It will be a real "maybe he will, maybe he won't". He's below that main tier of midfielders (whom I have as Jagga Smith, Sid Draper, Finn O'Sullivan, Sam Lalor, Harvey Langford, Josh Smillie & Murphy Reid - excluding the F/A and academy kids), but looks likely to be a reliable player, so could easily go anywhere in that 10 to 14 range just ahead of us. It will depend on which (and how many) clubs go for talls or small forwards rather than mids. We need a few of them to reach and not dilute the midfielder pool.

If Norths could do a deal with either Richmond or Melbourne, that would probably help, as I can see Norths taking a tall forward and a tall defender if they can. The picks for Eagles, Port and Freo are really hard to pick.

There's a lot of mock drafts having us take tall forwards (such as Jobe Shanahan, or Jack Whitlock), but I don't see that as a significant need.

If we're confident of his midfield craft holding up he'd be worth our first pick 👀

That where I'm just not confident that it would.

We've got a load of small/medium forward who "can run through" the midfield, but I think we're missing the grunt midfielders that we need.

What are your thoughts in more depth?

He's got a lot of similarities to Lachie Neale stylistically and has the temperament and drive to translate at the next level, and I'd also argue we need a smaller midfielder to compliment Green and Callaghan in the long run, as good as those two are, every successful midfield group has had a player or two that's genuinely elite at ground level (hence why I rate Jagga Smith so highly), and we currently lack that quality.

perhaps Brent Daniels fills that role

In your draft ratings, you've ranked him above Tom Gross, of who you've previously spoken well. What are the differences between them, and what would shape you to select one over the other if you were picking for GWS?

Gross is a better contested player and athlete currently, Dattoli is has better Footy IQ and skills

I'd probably lean Gross for us specifically due to his explosiveness and Greene like traits, but I'd be happy with either

It'd be nice to get Callaghan putting pen to paper on a longer term deal. Having a firm commitment from him and knowing with certainty the core that we're building around would probably dictate the midfield type we'd be after

Who from Freo? If it's just BF posters, I wouldn't be sure that Freo's recruiters agree. They are probably good for talls, small forwards & rucks. So, Allan fits an opportunity IMHO.
David Walls has essentially said "Love him as a player, our guys love playing with him (at Peel) but he's not really a need for us we have a lot of guys in that position."

We'd take the best small forward at that pick I'd guess.

Yeah this is what I was referencing but and it would be VERY strange 'foxing'.

I think Eagles will take him but I have a feeling he might just make it to 15/16

Cheers, thanks for that. As I said in an earlier post, it's really hard (as an outsider) to judge who Freo would take. You seem well stocked in most areas. While I understand it's someone from the club making a definitive statement ... I wonder whether it's actually a red herring.

Anyway, my actual thought stands that he's likely to go in that 10 to 14 range, but I would not be entirely surprised if he were there at our picks given how even this draft appears. Unfortunately, that would likely mean my preferred draftee, Xavier Lindsay, would likely be taken early.

Apparently clubs reluctant to offer want North wants for pick 2. I don't normally think it is worth it, but I am wondering what sort of offers we have made/ received for moving picks?
Does anybody know?
