Hill went back home for family, realised it was a shit hole then came back to Melbourne, sure he picked up some healthy money but as a 3 time flag winner at 22 and one of the best winger combinations of the last 100 years he had every right to be rewarded. We got shafted by freo but to end up with meek and weddle, and hodge a little while before that it all works out in the end
Came back to Melbourne because his missus wanted to come back.

A MASSIVE NO to B Hill. He left us for family and we obliged taking unders to help him, and then when he wanted to get back to Melbourne he took the saints at 900k a year for the cash when Sam Mitchell and Clarko were trying to get him back to us.

Was watching the Saints on the weekend and noticed Hill screaming at some of the players and waving his arms all over the place. Was a terrible look for a bloke on huge coin that picks up a lot of cheap out the back rubbish touches.

No to Chaz Cameron. Lions will want two first round picks and we are not in that space. Speaking of Brissy, I have been told by a few people Joe Daniher wants out and wants to get back to Melbourne so let’s see how that plays out.

This ‘out the back possession/goal’ thing shits me. A goal is a goal and if a possession out the back is used effectively then that’s a positive, the players were in the right spots and were able to use their positioning to benefit the team and have probably read the play better than most others in the situation.

Edit: in other news, I think Hill is probably too old for us now though. We have players developing in the roles that we can have for 5-10 years that would have to miss games for Hill.

We need to avoid doing a St.Kilda and topping up to play finals and then crashing back down.
There is very little risk of this when we are the 2nd youngest list in the comp.

15 players under 100 games ran out on the weekend.

If we play finals on the back of a couple of additions, we’ve got enough scope to improve and develop across the list to stay up.

Neither Hill nor Cameron are worth the potential price and would need to be open to taking substantial pay cuts when up for new contracts end of next year.

Although I admit it would be nice to see Hill back in Hawks colours.

To clarify from what I’ve read the Cola reintroduction applies to the soft cap only, so to assist in keeping assistant coaches.. not related to player payments.
Also no to Hill and no to Cameron..
I’m open to Smith as he’s something we don’t have a lot of, and he’s got a lot of years left at the highest level.
Develop our players as we’ve been doing. target FAs and draft.
Don’t rush the rebuild, it’s happening organically, we just need to stick to the process..

On the Fox show last night, that is what they discussed as there was one Sydney asst. coach living in his RV or caravan and another living 90k's away as he couldn't afford to live in Sydney.

I have no issue with that.

Sydney, within 20k's of the city in a beachside area such as Cronulla, is ~50% more expensive to buy a house in than somewhere like Beaumaris or more than double that of or Perth.

So where does the senior coach live ?

If he wants good assistants & doesn’t want them & their family to live in caravans, maybe he takes a pay cut.

The guy makes $170 000 a year - that's a decent salary, if he got 9.8% extra for cola how does that make the difference to buying a house in Sydney?

Couldn't agree anymore with all your thoughts on Hill.

Joe Daniher has Sydney Swans written all over it.

Who cares where Longmire lives. He and all the coaches and staff have to live in Sydney which is significantly more expensive than Melbourne or Perth.

This, by the sounds of what was discussed last night, briefly I must add, isn't a Salary Cap rort like last time before it was abolished, but an allowance for Sydney based members of staff to entice them to be attracted to move and work or be retained in Sydney instead of moving back to the larger fishbowl in Melbourne or other states where it is even less expensive.

Jordan Dawson was mentioned as he was able to buy his house in Adelaide for half of what he was able to find for something similar in Sydney.

It is why salaries in Sydney are higher than other cities too. You have to pay them to retain or attract them. Unfortunately, the soft cap is the same for all clubs.

If COLA is brought back then it should only become a supplementary payment on top already agreed contracts, etc. Which I believe was how it was originally intended (?).

The AFL can determine whatever the COLA amount is, and the percentages of how it is divided simply correlates to whatever the percentage of the cap the individual is being paid.

Also - maybe the Adelaide, QLD and the WA teams should have some kind of reverse COLA. I'm trying to think of a clever acronym, but I've got nothing.

Edit, how about: DIET COLA

Serious question - who is the guy?

That ~17K goes to paying his much higher rent, everything really with Sydney, if he wants to or is able to live closer to their training ground.

I know it's been mentioned before - but they are very interested in Lewis. Take that one to the bank.

(No idea what Lewis' position is on this, mind)
I think we have a far higher chance of getting Lewis' body right and having an elite KPF than we do getting a pick for him, picking a KPF and maybe they end up as good as Lewis in 2-3 years.

Maybe Lewis is next in line for an off-season Qatar trip.

Can't tell me that someone on 170k a year can't find somewhere to live that is close enough to travel to work, even in Sydney.
If the wife doesn’t work, and you have x costs on top of rent, it’s a pretty poor wage now, crazy to say out loud but taking in taxes, bills and family expenses it’s not good enough for afl clubs anymore

Sydney could use their cap space to give their lower paid coaches pay rises if they really wanted.
What does Longmire earn? $1mill a year? Take a cut to $950 000 and there is an extra $50 000 a year. Maybe they have too many coaches, cut one and give the other an increase.

Would we ?

3 or 4 yrs left in him you’d think.
Give time for Dear to mature, cover for an injured Lewis.
Doesn’t seem to miss too many games to injury.
This is no doubt an unpopular opinion in here but Joe Dirt is my favourite player outside of the hawks.

Id love to have him for a few years but not sure it's the best move for our list, or for him.
