Weddle. If Nash were to go as a FA, the types coming up to replace him aren't exactly like for like. I'm thinking mainly Ward and Mackenzie.
If the club needs another tall, agile, defensive type to add to the stoppage mix, I like Alex Davies. GCs midfield is stacked. He's out of contract and GC are only offering him 2 years. I think there's a player there.
Carlton got ripped off.Judd and 46 for 3, 20 and Kennedy probably their biggest player in his prime
If Ed was available as Father Son we would have needed the picks we used to trade and would have matched and missed trading for Weddle.Unfortunately Ben only played 98 games with us. Very similar to missing out on Noah Anderson, with his father Dean only playing 83 games for us.
Same for Anderson, we would’ve missed DayIf Ed was available as Father Son we would have needed the picks we used to trade and would have matched and missed trading for Weddle.
Should we instead draft a defender using early picks and wait for them to contribute like DGB currently is? Wait...
Who? Melbourne got those guys half a decade ago and there hasn't been a good defender dealt away since then. Waiting for the perfect player to become available is pointless, Barrass is the best defender on the market since May. Just gotta get it done. No, we trade for KPD(s) in the 24-26 age bracket like Demons did.
I've got a range of different info coming in from different sources at present.
What I'll say is that I believe Barras is now the priority, and he wants to join us.

Either way, trading for Lake didn't stop us from getting Frawley as a free agent 2 years later.
If a player tells you their preference is somewhere else, you don't just go "Oh ok, no worries", you try and change their mind. If we are not doing that, then we clearly don't have him as a high priority. We have moved on after Smith and his agent let us know that Geelong was his preferred destination. Not the end of the world.
No. Kennedy was shattered to be traded. Wanted to be a one club player. Worked out well for him though. And he was likely to go home anyway, it was like McPharlin in our deal for Pick 1.
Yep. Sometimes dumb luck saves you.Same for Anderson, we would’ve missed Day
Not yet. As soon as clubs are told no they let the media know.We have moved on after Smith and his agent let us know that Geelong was his preferred destination. Not the end of the world.

Balta is interesting. We should be into Noah Balta if Richmond need a rebuild also may cost the same and is younger.
Who said we've moved on? I know some here have reported that Smith to Cats is pretty much done, but the trade period is some time away. We are not there yet. We are still in rumour and speculation mode.Who said we haven't tried to change his mind? This negotiation has been going on for months and months now. And what happens if the player has made it absolutely clear, do you keep trying?
Depth.
Sic is one of the best players in the comp as a defender where his kicking skills are best utilised. He can pinch hit forward, very different playing perm forward. If we do get Battle and Barrass, could that release Sicily to be that 3rd tall in our forward line?
Mouthwatering prospect me thinks!
If fringe players want out and ask to be traded whilst under contract and other clubs want them then I hope we operate the way GWS have done in the past where they extract maximum value for them in draft assets (with in reason of coarse). If we're wise this is how we can round out our list with better fitting depth and sustain long term success.Do Finn and Harry want to be depth though? Play 8 or 12 games a year mostly as sub? Or will they look for full time best 22 at another club?
I also assume there is a lot more money on offer at other clubs.

If the guys you mentioned are fine with battling there way into the best 23 then they are all great depth players and I could think of many a worse players sitting in the 2s for other clubs.
Not always, especially this early. His agent could of asked them not to so that it doesnt become an in season media storm that it would with everyone saying it would be Geelong. Not yet. As soon as clubs are told no they let the media know.
