AFLW 2024 - Round 9 - Indigenous Round - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Sydney have the weird mix of hitting on their rookies and ****ing up their national draft picks (academy excluded)
I did some research. They've certainly had 1st and 2nd round hits (Warner, Rowbottom, McCartin, Florent), however some 1st amd 2nd round misses over the past decade have been a little funny.
James Rose
Jack Hiscox
Passed on a bid for Josh Dunkley
Matthew Ling
Will Gould
Angus Sheldrick
Traded out the pick we used on Josh Weddle
Cooper Vickery
Jacob Konstanty
They are VERY fortunate to have that academy.
Yep some people seem to think trading works purely off the DVI calculator. It doesn’t take into account the live trading premium or the strength of the particular draft. In context Carlton who were desperate and acting like a live trader gave us f1/2 for 14 alone so for 19 and 53 (approx f3) then f1 and 33 is on par. Also swans want f1/2 picks for academy next year they won’t be giving those up.You can forget about getting a fair deal mate. If u want to get 19 u r going to have give a lot or u won't get it. F1 33 FOR 19 AND F3 sounds about right given others that have moved up in the past.
Carlton winning the flagHopefully 18 which will mean you know what?
If you want something you pay for it.Gee, that's a fair bit to give up for 19+future 3rd! Pick 33+ something around 14-18. Hopefully 18 which will mean you know what?
We'd have to wait till pick 19 to do the trade and only if our target is still there. If what I've been told is true, we're dealing with Swans.
33 & F1 for pick 19 and F3. There may be other picks involved.
If that happens there must really be someone we're targeting who's rated to go in the low 20's.

With Weddle trade we paid a F2+F3 to slide up from 27 to 18We'd have to wait till pick 19 to do the trade and only if our target is still there.
Would Swans risk it again after Weddle? Clearly we knew something they didn't there. Perhaps they find out who we want and take them for themselves.
If I had to guess as to who might be there we would target that won’t get to 33, either a mid/fwd like Taj Hotton or Cooper Hynes or a tall fwd like Shanahan or one of the Whitlocks. They might like Matt Whitlock given his positional flexibility. With Weddle trade we paid a F2+F3 to slide up from 27 to 18
With this trade we are proposing to pay a F1(& get F3) to trade up from pick 37(33) to 23(19)
9 pick slide up vs 14 pick slide up
If really our target is there, I don't mind it but this is said to be even draft. We have the likes of Sims, Davis etc being ranked from 25 all the way to 40.
The diff in quality of player at 19 vs 33 doesn't seem big. On that basis the cost of F1 seems excessive.
But if really someone we rate in Top 15 is still there at 23, I say go for it.
PS : compared to this trade the Weddle trade seems like a real steal even though it seemed like massive overs then, I was fine with trade then too.
Taj Hotton I can understand but the other 2 are rated anywhere from 20 till 35 and there are other players in similar mould. If I had to guess as to who might be there we would target that won’t get to 33, either a mid/fwd like Taj Hotton or Cooper Hynes or a tall fwd like Shanahan or one of the Whitlocks. They might like Matt Whitlock given his positional flexibility.
Or winning the spoon and having 17 matched bids before finding a player not tied to a club.Carlton winning the flag

Seems overs for me. And just because the Weddle trade was a huge success, it doesn't mean we will always kill it.With Weddle trade we paid a F2+F3 to slide up from 27 to 18

Passing on Dunkley continues to haunt them to this very day. He was/is exactly the type of big bodied mid they needed to take over from Kennedy when he retired. They have never really filled the Kennedy void since, which makes me smile every time. Doing the pick swap with Weddle is hilarious. If they had both Dunkley and Weddle in their side today they would be unstoppableI did some research. They've certainly had 1st and 2nd round hits (Warner, Rowbottom, McCartin, Florent), however some 1st and 2nd round misses over the past decade have been a little funny.

Yeah drafting is not an exact science you could have pick 2 and **** it up. Many a team have done that. However, it doesn't stop a team if there is a specific player that a team rates and they are available then will go for it.Seems overs for me. And just because the Weddle trade was a huge success, it doesn't mean we will always kill it.
Oh 100% agreed. I was just responding to TH who suggested him as a potential target. We don’t have list spots to look at any DFAs and if we did not him. One draft pick Cody Anderson re-rookie Gunston that’s all folks.
Hope we don't touch our F1. Would much prefer taking a tall around our range.
