Still has until the 13th, so not sure I'd take too much notice yet.

You need to nominate for the ND to be later eligible for the Mid Season Draft, so that's why I'd imagine someone like Ned Maginness would nominate who is not expected to be taken.
This is my point, if he gets overlooked as a DFA in the coming month, and he hasn’t nominated for the draft, where would he sit with respect to preseason and mid season drafts

There is stated interest in media today for Hawks to climb the ladder which means F1+33 is at play or maybe its F2+33

Been thinking out of box ways to get this trade. Would we be interested to trade our F1 for suite of picks from Dons as a left field way to climb, hear me out.

Our Blues F1 for Dons picks 28,31 + F2 ( no need for F3 if we hold 2 F2's) before Kako bid. Only do this if we have the next GWS deal in place.

Then see if GWS would trade their pick 16+56 for 28,31,33. They have 6 list spots open but may rerookie 2-3 guys.
They will end up with 15,21,28,31,33,37

Someone like Sydney may give up their pick 22 for 2 of the later picks or maybe its the Tigers. All depends on which players a team targets and if they are likely to be on board after mid-20's & 30's

Hawks effectively trade F1+33 for 16+F2+56. Don's may do it as they will have 3 F1's and 1 or 2 of them can be used to get Pick 11 or 18 off Tigers.

PS : Both GWS & Dons don't have F3's which hampers them in trades just like it does for us. Don's can't use their 2 F1's without a F3 from Tigers which they don't have.

Pick 56 should come in to late 40's and ideally we trade it out for a F3 well before a Cody bid which our 70's picks( will be early 60's) should be enough to match & ok to go to deficit in the equivalent round pick if needed.

I’d rather not trade next years F1 and F2 considering bruest and Gunston probably retire

The idea for the scum to trade out those picks makes sense. The picks in 40s and 50s match around pick 8 Kako doesn’t go earlier than that he’s no Wizard!
Your trade is lopsided they would never do it especially with blues likely to finish higher. 28 and 31 and f3 for f1 more realistic except they also don’t have an f3. To be honest I’m not sure it’s worth it. The only club who would be keen to trade into future for blues f1 would be sydney with pick 22. 33 and f1 for 22 and f3 sounds about right they get the equivalent of pick 30 approx. for trading which is the live trade premium especially in this draft. Otherwise there will be good options at 33 just take best available.

They don't have a F3 as you noted which is why I put their F2. Blues F1 can be anywhere from 8 to 16, so F2 is not too bad and we can add F4 to balance it. Have asked this query on their page so I can seed the idea and let it percolate. 28 & 31 by itself we won't do, if they can find a F3, will be cool.

Idea was to put the trade out for discussion. Bombers have some issues in addition to loss of 28 & 31. Ideally they would like to get a pick before Kako bid that involved one of the f1+28 & 31 but most of the ones with Top 10 won't bite for that. They want both F1's but the likes of Tigers don't have a F3 to give to them for such a trade.

I am happy to just pick at 33 but was going off that media article stating we want to trade up. This means F1 or F2 has to come into play, F1 more likely.

At pick 22, I doubt the player(Hotton) we want is still available, more likely at pick 16 IMO or pick 17

GWS don't have an F3 as well, so hard to do a trade, hence my suggestion.

TFP lols but no idea what its on. Maybe silence is preferred by some on a fan forum.

Looking at the picks for 2024/25 one more trade could be

3 way trade to get Pick 17
Syd - 19+f3(54) for Blues F1+48+F4
Hawks - 33+F1+F4 for 17+F3
Dogs - 17+48 for 19+33

In our current aggressive move up the ladder, there is no way we are waiting for pick 33.
We will move up on the night, guaranteed.
How do you see that happening?

This thread is proof of how uninterested Hawks fans on a fan forum are on this even when the Club has expressed such an interest explicitly in media, so it is not just an ITK rumour.

I have given a few scenarios above to trigger discussion but crikets. Sigh. FB19 has tried to get a mock draft going, again crikets while Eagles & Scum board finished one days back with lots of involvement.

Let me give one more scenario. I hope we are also targeting Lions pick 27 as 1st step to move up. They just have enough points(2475pts) & so would be loathe to trade pick 27 for unders but if Levi is not bid at Pick 1, they may be open, even better if he gets bid on Pick 3( needs under 1800pts)

Trade 27 for 33+71+77
Lions lose 150 pts loss at start but when the pick 71+77 move up, they gain 200 or so points

This means we don't have points for Cody bid but should be fine to go into deficit( will affect only in the round he gets bid on). We can always trade in Lions late picks left over after Marshall is bid on for our F4

Once we have 27, it may be easier to propose trade with GWS for pick 16 as elaborated earlier.

If there is to be a jump it won't be before the draft and it will be highly unlikely to involve us jumping just 6 spots. The jump will be significant and will involve a player that has slipped and will most likely involve our F1. Hence my disinterest in talking about moving up the draft order before the draft. Your move is also unlikely as we have already added cody as an NGA and we would have planned to have him on the list. So there may be picks being swapped to get earlier picks this year to match since 77 is worth nothing. If we go into deficit and still have our first pick that pick gets shifted back those points. You wouldn't want that

Nope, deficit is affected for only the round it was bid on.

So if Cody is bid for in 3rd round, any deficit affects our 2025 3rd round picks or after. Won't affect our 1st or 2nd picks. It is more likely he won't get bid on or will be a token bid in 60's which is negligible deficit & affects 4rth round picks.

Lions will have picks at end of draft when the earlier picks vanish and they will move up as Kako and Lombard are bid on & gain points. Once Marshall is bid on, the picks still exists and if needed we can trade 1 or 2 of them for our F4 or F5 to cover any significant deficit if needed.

Any trade clubs do has to be done on draft night as there is a correlation to list spots for picks. So lions won't try to take on 71 & 77 now as they don't have spots but if Levi is not bid on at Pick 1 then my proposed trade above works provided no other club can do better.

GWS pick 16 seems to be the one to target, can't see any other club keen to move. Any club looking to trade will be keener if we have pick 27 over 33.

Tigers are unlikely to trade 11 but even they will find 27 more enticing and may budge if we get it.

It won’t be that significant because we don’t have the draft assets and live trading comes with a big premium. Very few clubs would trade a first round pick for blues f1 and 33 in this draft especially when needing to hand an f3 back unless they either
A) have multiple early picks
B) have a strong need to prioritise 2025
Only 4 Candidates
Tigers 18/20/23/24 but no f3 makes it difficult
Gws 21 but no f3 makes it difficult would need their f2
Dogs 25
Sydney 22

I like hawkinoz idea re the dons but a little differently. Get 28 and 31 for 33 and blues f2. They don’t need those picks to match bid. That gives dons 2xf1 and 2xf2 to trade back in after Kako bid. We target GWS pick 16 or more likely 21 for 28 and 31. With players leaving and many older stars they could use the extra pick in a deep draft.

Thanks for clarifying about the pick deficit. I just don't see a trade to a pick only for that trade to be traded later on. It's not what we do. We are more likely to be targeting pick 18 onwards to a point. Going to 16 would be expensive given what's available and we may not have the draft capital.

We won't be taking two picks in the draft given the nga and gunston why would we want the extra pick. If we don't get a significant upgrade then we just pick with 33

I’m not arguing that we obviously are only taking one pick the Beast and Gunners. I’m saying the cost to trade up is more than you indicated and thus only gets us into the early 20s most likely. But it is not about the size of the upgrade it’s about who is available. if a talent we rate as top 10ish is there you do the deal if it’s not you probably hold as you say.

Agree, especially if we feel the prospect could have the Weddle effect.

I don’t think we will say it to the media but we’re going hard for the premiership in 2025.

I feel the media will be given we’re aiming for a top 4 spot.

If the right prospect is available don’t be surprised if we traded out Carlton’s F1 and our 33

We're definitely in the get LDU camp!! Be a great get if we can pull it off. The pies and Don's are knee deep as well.

An early Christmas present hearing this.

I'm sure people are sick of me saying this, but I believe he'd be the best center square mid in the comp under Sam. I'd pay $1m a year over 6.
