I'm watching Holman just do his job, imagine him and not Fantasia, Durdin or Owies ? Talk about giving away a missing piece, he just wasn't glamourous enough?
If we had Holman on our list the last 10 years, we'd have much bigger problems than losing

If Motlop stands up as I expect him to and Fogarty stays fit our small forward options are largely solved

Our best 25 has few limitations

It’s our next level and depth that concerns me
Our top 30-32 is fine. It’s when every one of our 24-30 have to play every week that it’s an issue. Young, Cowan, Fantasia, Durdin etc are fine when they are just having to plug a hole. It’s when they have to play large roles in the team that we look a bit off

Cowans young and will be a very good player. Unfair to lump him with the others

As you say, I think the only valid scenario is us paying a sizable portion of his wage, but who would be interested in a 30 year old injury prone flanker
Probably a 99% chance no one would be unless we attached something like a future 1st with Williams for maybe backend draft picks to help pay for campo’s boys but I highly doubt it.

For mine the the available so called bigger name free agents this year aren’t really worth the money it would cost to bring them in anyway I like Hayward and Ainsworth as players and they fill a need however someone else can pay them the $700,000 plus a year it would likely take to bring them over.

Austin has proven he is pretty rigid and planned with the players he targets, he doesn’t get very creative and only targets players he knows he can get so I wouldn’t be expecting any big names this offseason I suspect he will target fringe players from other teams hopefully with a bit of speed.

He’s currently in that crop because he’s young and inexperienced, not because he isn’t a good player. He’s not at a point where he’s a locked in starter every week

If we traded/delisted the following and we had a hypothetical 2.5 million of cap space to try and balance our list, who would you be targeting to fill our list holes?

Young - 400k
Williams - 850k
Martin - 400k
Cuningham - 200k
Kennedy - 500k
Fantasia - 200k
Trading Williams will mean we will also give up a first rounder like Gold Coast did with Bowes to Geelong. This could work if we are getting the Campo twins and looking at banking draft picks later. Someone like Nth may be interested to get additional draft picks while they take Williams contract.

Williams has been a terrible trade and cutting our losses now is the best option given we are in the premiership window. This allows is to look at free agency to aquire a player with the additional cap space.

Williams is going no where…

100%. He will also come good. Patience
Yeah I agree .... coming off a knee & Achilles issues .... his body looks banged up & hasn't played alot of footy past few years.

Without the injuries prob would have been rested.

Hopefully get him in good nick for second half of year.... hopefully gets the zip back with more conditioning.

We aren’t chasing any ready made A Grade talent. We have that

This year will be about draftees, and more Acres/Hollands type deals. Very good role players that don’t cost much

We also have faith in Motlop Hollands Wilson Cowan becoming very good players

Our List like last few will be given an “upgrade” with a view for helping now yet still having talent coming through for next decade

PS our Salary Cap is in a good spot if someone falls in our lap

Bailey Dale and Zac Bailey the ones I'd be hoping could 'fall in our lap' given their clubs current woes. Otherwise Free Agents and solid role players like Acres and Hewett would be great.

I think there'd be a few teams who would happily take Williams and most of his contract, provided they didn't have to cough up much for him by way of a trade. I don't think we'd have to do a GC and throw in a first rounder to get someone to bite.

North have cap space to burn and might like a ready-made HBF if they want to look at pushing Sheezel or McKercher into the guts next year.
Richmond look set to lose Baker and could use Williams to fill the void in the short-term while they draft and develop behind him.
SOS now at St Kilda loves to go back to his familiar players - drafted Williams, we recruited him post-SOS and SOS didn't seem hugely convinced on his midfield prospects but reiterated he's an excellent HB. Saints are pushing for finals and might consider what would essentially be a free agent.
Brisbane have a good record of injury management, but a few key injuries lately have exposed their lack off depth off half back. Pending other player exits they might be interested.

Even the Geelongs, Essendons and Fremantles of the comp might consider it.

Two positions required imo...

Goalkicking small medium/fwd
Comfortable spending the $'s on Will Hayward. Pressure forward who kicks goals and is as good on the ground as he is in the air. Makes a potent forward line even more dynamic.
Cheap: Noah Cumberland?

Key Position defender:
Josh Battle. Good one-on-one player. Effective (not a superstar) key defender who can attack when necessary. Very good kick.
Cheap: Elliott Himmelberg as key position depth? Can he play that tall defender role and be an upgrade on Young?

Some additional outside speed would be good but hoping that's what young Billy Wilson will provide next year for us.
