Jagga Smith on the inside, allows Walsh and Cerra to flourish more on the outside…

Throw in Lord, Wilson pretty decent midfield

Add Ben Camporeale who will surprise many. Lord will step. Wilson likely to start at HB

We also have Docherty & Elijah. Love to see a fit Corey Durdin in there as well at times. More leg speed and zip

I could see Smith easily play wing year one

It's a bloody good midfield. Better if we give Charlie & Kemp bursts in there

Just need to get them fit

I just hope Voss isn't to conservative with playing the youngsters over the next few years while we are contending. No point drafting the next gen if they all leave for opportunitty by the time our veterans retire.
I don’t really get this narrative of “Voss doesn’t play the kids”. The Hollands boys, Cowan, Motlop, Durdin, Carroll etc. have been given more-than-ample playing time since Voss has come in

I agree to an extent. I dont think he is bad at it, although some kids have got more opportunitties then others. My comment was less directed at him not playing kids and more about the lack of opportunitty that might exist.

Given we are in a window it will be tempting for him to back in experience. I expect him to pick the best team available but if its a 50 / 50 call between a younger and older player, I hope he goes younger.

I HOPE so. Not enough evidence. Indications are good but that's all they are.

Chance this comes off the wrong way, but honestly it's coming from the right place.

Soapy is relentlessly optimistic on young players. I'd rather that than someone who was overly pessimistic. But the list of players that were apparently going to be "stars" is pretty long...

SPS
Dow
LOB
Fisher
Williamson
Setterfield
Hateley
Francis
Caldwell
Kennedy
Stocker

Nailed some too, of course - Walsh, Curnow, McKay, Weiters, TDK (tracking well, almost there...).

I like Lord a lot, but for me he projects as a Hewett type. I don't think he'll be an absolute jet, but I think he'll be a solid and consistent contributor, and an important part of a balanced midfield. If he ends up more than that, I'll be thrilled - I'm certainly not capping his potential - but expectations should be managed for a young kid taken in the MSD and sitting behind some genuine class midfielders already.

Yeah I'm not sold on that.
We have Cripps as the ONLY big bodied mid now that Chugga has gone.
Sure Hewitt can pinch hit, but Walsh & Cerra are not big bodies and not even reliable bodies at present.
Lord and Wilson are still learning the craft and are not big bodies.
If we add Smith, we basically have a bunch of young skinny kids as backup in the midfield.

I think we'd be mental not to take Langford, but at this point I think I'd rather take Draper over Jagga as the next mid.
Nothing against Smith, he's an absolute gun, but we need a big body to develop support for Crippa.
Chugga wasn’t getting midfield time anymore anyway.

Only player of Cripps physique is Smillie, which while he projects as a gun would be a reach at our pick.

You’d hope Cripps has 3-5 more years… Lord has put on some serious size, Walker comes in a couple of years and Campo boys will still grow.

I think he leans himself to playing kids who only have big pre-seasons and tends to ignore those that build up some form in the VFL and when needed goes to the well of the older or more experienced players.

Yeah, I think it's a bit of a myth tbh.
I think the club holds back some players to work on things but that's pretty standard.
Fortunately we've moved on from promising players being automatically selected.

Only those kids where we have little depth play regularly.
As you saw at the end the H&A season, we played some young guns when our regular 22 side was decimated, and they did pretty well.

Ideally we could have introduced them into the side when Regular 22 Players like Williams, Cerra, Charlie etc. started getting niggles, instead of them playing injured and making it tenfold worse.

There’s no guarantee they put up that level of output without those extra weeks in the reserves. If anything, it should drive them. They all have had a little taste, now for them to have big pre seasons

Serious question, for how long is our premiership window going to still be open and when will it be 'safe' for us to start replacing players with any serious kind of draft presence, rather than just having one player at the pointy end (and perhaps nothing much at all next year)? I ask because I can seriously see us starting to bottom out right when Tassie hits.

I'm mainly concerned about our 'bookends'. I don't want us to reach the stage where we have no one of value left who we can bear to part with, at the end of this current cycle.

I see us hitting some strife in about 2028-29 when Weiters, Charlie and Harry would be expected to start to drop away.

Until then all we have to do is continue picking up some quality kids here and there and have some good trades to replace players like Gov, Saad, Newman, Acres etc as they wane.

Cody Walker is a massive massive get if he continues on his projected path. Jagga + Cody paired with Walsh + Cerra means that area is pretty well sorted for a decade.

The KPPs are the only concern for mine. It's going to be extremely hard replacing 3 generational talents there with little draft capital.
