We very rarely win easy. Our game plan always appears very physical and when we dominate the scoreboard its usually because we are dominating everywhere. Would love us to learn how to win easy.
Transition and efficiency is so important now. It is also the cornerstone of a debate on another of our favourite board topics 'kicking efficiency skills of Carlton players vs other teams'. We keep feeling like we are the poor cousin when it is more about our transition style puts us under sever disposal pressure. Improving transition play will give our players the extra second it requires to direct their kicks with better vision. It's about buying time!

Transitional movement is on coaching - execution is on players, it is difficult to seperate the two at times. missing easy set shots is very easy to determine responsibility for as are many other player specific execution issues.

Reckon Jagga will improve us enormously in this regard.

A fit Cerra helps too!!

Sides average around 120 combined turnovers and clangers a game, essentially 1 every 30 seconds

We were top 6 for least TO & CLGs, but you always look to improve what you do when forcing turnovers

KE% stats are flawed, doesn't tell you if you missed a better option
and the raw DE numbers don't tell you what percentage were long kicks to a contest which count as effective, even if it's to a 1v3 contest in the oppositions favour where you lose possession

Transitional ball movement, all forms of it, good or bad i believe there is no better evidence than by the eye test, naturally live at the ground is the most accurate, on TV you can gauge a fair amount although limited by not having full exposure to the entire ground…
Stats play a part, some more accurate than others…

Many moons ago, teams that moved the ball coast to coast (clean possession from the backline and scored) or won the centre clearances and scored and defended the best against both of these were premiership teams. Not much has changed!!! Footy is a simple game in gauging the best teams.

I think Jagga with his redirection run/sideways dart that he does as soon as he gets the ball buys him time to think about disposal. It will buy the entire midfield time too so I agree with you that he will help us a lot. Maybe first year is unclear as we have to see him after he takes 1-2 massive hits and how he responds.

Carroll continues in the Navy Blue

The Carlton Football Club is excited to announce Matt Carroll has been signed to the rookie list as part of the pre-season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP).

The Carlton Football Club can also confirm that it will part ways with Sam Durdin, who has been training with the team since being delisted at the end of 2024.

I just finished watching this video from Dylan Alexander on Contested Possessions. He points out how CP alone is a pretty useless stat and that hardball and looseball gets paint a better picture. But nothing beats the eye test as others have pointed out. And lets not forget... a whopping 36% of all stats are made up on the spot anyway

And Sam Durdin has been let go which is significant. Wonder if we will add another guy. We can take two and also have another spot mid year due to Newie.

Spot on, need to parallel vision alongside all stats

Clearly the club is planning for a new HB flank over the next couple years. I picked this a couple years back.

Our 6 oldest players are defenders by trade. All odds these guys will be 31 by the end of the year.

Haynes
Newman (injured)
Doc (being moved up the ground)
Saad
Williams (forward now)
McGovern

Next group up:
Kemp (forward now)
Hollands
Boyd
Cincotta
SOS (imo a mistake)
Cowan
Wilson
Charleson
Carroll
Jagga/Lucas can start off HB.
