Agree to disagree that’s fine but Marchbank at the very least should be on a rookies contract.

Can’t keep players who are constantly injured that’s just my opinion.

I think Martin is just too important and very hard to replicate what he brings.

I also think a weakness of our is halfback talls - of which MBK is one.

Agreed making him a rookie could work - I don’t think the club will do this - still hoping they can get him right, as they have others.

I’m all but certain they’ll retain only one of them. Plenty of chance both are gone. It’s time to move on from these players.
You could be right, available list spots are reducing and they are still unsigned…

Martin and Marchbank would be stiff, but Cuningham is more bigfooty myth than any on field substance…

Could see Marchbank getting a rookie spot with our lack of KPD stocks..

you missed the bit i also mentioned an early draft pick, which we don't have

FWIW though i don't think he's a particularly good kick, or fast.

Do we have enough accountability with that mix? Not saying Smith wouldn't be a great get, but we also don't want to be one-way runners like Port.

I’m not sold on Smith either, coming off a knee and has a drug strike, recon he’s Geelong bound…

But his type is what our midfield needs, aggressiveness and speed…

None of them would be stiff. They’ve literally had a decade each to prove their bodies can handle the rigours of AFL. Every year we are left waiting.

Do all of them deserve to be on an AFL list in 2025? Probably
Should Carlton be the team that facilitates this? Hell no

Which would make them a bit stiff… :grinv1:

I fully expect Marchbank to be on our list next year, in fact he's some sort of chance to play next week. Yes he's injury prone but it's not really chronic (as in the same injury every time like Martin and Cuningham). He was ready to go in round 4 this year only to get cleaned up by friendly fire.

The other option is to delist him and try and draft something similar with a 4th rounder.

Martin will get his chance to show his wares (and hopefully his durability ) shortly and that will probably determine whether he's on the list next year. Hayward remaining a Swan helps his chances but E. Hollands emergence probably hurts.

Busslingers numbers at VFL look very solid for a youngster. Top end draft talent so there must be something there to work with. Bevo pretty handy at getting kids off side if they don't fit his 'mould'.
KPD size and strong intercept mark. They maybe just gently simmering him in the 2s and all's well but he would be an ideal target if not getting a run at the dogs. Impossible to know what situation is but would be ideal

Most likely he'll end up back in WA

Mid week tackle reporting that many clubs are confident that Tyson Stengle is gettable at $800k per season. Stkilda and * at the head of the queue but others watching.

Good luck to him if he gets it. I think Eddie Betts missus is negotiating for him. Hope he gets a big deal. On that money I doubt it's with us.

Geelong might be getting challenged on their rigid approach to salary cap management where all players take quite a bit less than they could get elsewhere.

I wouldn't get rid of all our injury-prone players.

Would delist Marchy and Cunners as their roles can be covered... bur more inclined to keep Martin.

Martin adds an important component to our F50 that no other player on the list can. Good in the air, on the ground and hard at it.

Plus we need that extra aerial threat up forward whenever Harry relieves in the ruck. I'd like to keep him, at least till Moir is ready.

Martin is the standout from that group of 3.

Swans game was the first time we've been embarrassed in a long time.

They burnt us with speed and caught us out on turnover. Became a bit of a procession there in the third.

We want to be in a position where we get it into F50 from the center (something we excel at) and then lock it in there for repeat entries.

We're not fast enough as a team to counter what the Swans do by beating them at their own game.

Bring in a Small forward or two and some manic forward pressure, and we're a much better side.
I think williams and motlop can cover it. 3 weeks ago I wanted cameron, now I would hold my gunpowder on cameron/stengle and really prioritise a burst type mid.

HS reporting Stengle available at 850k apparently... Would be out of our range with TDK and Weitering signings in the future.

Still hoping for a miracle though 🙏
Spoke with someone pre the commencement of his current contract about a year and a bit ago and the discussion was along 'we've managed to keep the contract as short as possible, we have got him at his highest value, will nurture him through this contract but the risk becomes asymmetric to the down side and would prob look look to move him on if we can get the right deal' This was pre this 12 month contract. The fact he got rid of his manager not long after that extension and Bett's wife been filling the void still, prob not optimal. Would be obtainable but Geelong won't roll over easily as per usual modus operandi.

Smith?

He’s exactly what our midfield needs, aggression and speed…

A midfield of Cripps, Walsh, TDK, Cerra, Smith and Elijah would be insane…

$800k is a good deal, with the upcoming cap increases…

If our cap is that bad, that we can’t afford a decent player… It’s up to the players to make sacrifices like Geelong, Richmond, Hawthorn and Collingwood did…
Our senior players would take a cut to fit smith in our side.

Interesting stuff, thanks.

Only tidbits I have is from the boys on the K-Rock Cat Attack Pod who generally get good mail - said they don't expect him to be around after this year.

And my uncle who works at a club who was fighting for his signature before he chose the Cats originally who said there's a bit more to the Stengle story than the public would know, they were almost certain they had him secured but he flipped to the Cattery at the last minute due to some personal reasons he wouldn't tell me.

Overall I have no clue what he'll do, wouldnt be surprised if he left the Cats but I don't think Betts and his wife would be happy with him going to the Saints or Dons who have notoriously poor off field standards re drinking, drugs etc. Just hope to god it's not to the Pies if he were to leave.
