Not expecting our club to even think about asking the questionAinsworth's has the world's most futile moustache. Pass.
It'd be how much more than Martin would it be? From memory, Martin was on something like 600k (?) when averaged out.Yeah maybe. He would definitely add to the mix but Im not sure about the price we'd have to pay and whether we could afford it. Who knows.
Hard to argue with that.In order, I did it by player ability as opposed to structural importance to us.
1 Charlie - No one in our side can break the game apart like him. Sets up goals too which is underrated. He's in the realm of players known by first names, not second. Next level superstardom.
2 Cripps
3 McKay - I think almost underrated at this point. His work up field taking contested marks on the wing/back flank is huge. Just about a career year imo.
4 Weitering - Structurally probably #1, but in terms of player ability he's at 4 for me.
5 Walsh - His ball use drops him a little. Too much blazing long without looking knocks him down slightly for me. If he lowered the eyes more he would be a Brownlow contender - even more than he has been.
6 Saad
7 McGovern
8 TDK - with a bullet. Will fly up if he keeps playing as sole ruck and not as #2 ruck/forward.
9 Acres - Impact in moments over stats for me. The amount of impact he has in 4th qtrs in close games at both ends is unbelievable.
10 Cerra - fitness counts. Availability is an ability and he's missed a bit this season. If fit for the back half will likely climb the list.
You're right I think broadly the top 5 write themselves, the order may change but the names are the same. The next 5 are a bit tricky.
We could offer him $100k and Geelong can't match if he accepts.Spoke with someone pre the commencement of his current contract about a year and a bit ago and the discussion was along 'we've managed to keep the contract as short as possible, we have got him at his highest value, will nurture him through this contract but the risk becomes asymmetric to the down side and would prob look look to move him on if we can get the right deal' This was pre this 12 month contract. The fact he got rid of his manager not long after that extension and Bett's wife been filling the void still, prob not optimal. Would be obtainable but Geelong won't roll over easily as per usual modus operandi.
It will be cheap very quickly. We have discussed whether our players are on contracts in line with the increase in the salary cap, for any club where most st player contracts are not, they are going to have a lot of $$$$ to target players.
The cap rises $2M next year alone, if there was a any free agent that plays an area of need, we should have no hesitation to pay up.
When the cap goes up by $2M in one year, paying AA calibre players $800,000 per year, isn’t crazy money, it will be closer to the norm.
Perhaps you should look at the career of the player before you comment. Had one good season and your happy to pay him 850k a season?? There's a reason the cats aren't paying that.
TDK will be one of the best ruckman in the AFL going by his trajectory. He's only 24 and plays like an extra mid. He will be in even higher demand next year when out of contract. Yes, you're paying someone on potential but it's what clubs will be willing to pay. The free agency has some appeal for Stengle however you don't want to jeopardise your salary cap. We should prioritise signing Weitering and TDK first and looking at other money ball targets like we did with Elijah.Just out of curiosity how much do you think Carlton (and other clubs including the Cats) will offer TDK, who hasn’t even had one good season?
Contract offers are based on many things and output is probably one of the least important factors. Projected future output, positional need and availability, ability to recruit as an FA, marketability are all reasons why Stengle might be worth that money. You almost always need to pay overs to recruit quality and 850k is not going to be what it once was.
He probably has another 250-300 goals in his career and it’d be nice if they were at Carlton.

Very heavily front ended. It'd be how much more than Martin would it be? From memory, Martin was on something like 600k (?) when averaged out.
So Martin +200k for a 25yo FA who has played some very good and a premiership player.
And you'd 15+ games out of him next year. Can't say that for Martin (or Marchy, or Cuningham).
That's a yes from me.

Elijah wasn't moneyball. He was still contracted and would have cost a lot more if it wasn't for the transgression and impending court case. And in turn why we only offered him the one year of course instead of the original three years, because we took on the risk.TDK will be one of the best ruckman in the AFL going by his trajectory. I may be wrong, but I think part of the collective bargaining with the AFLPA and AFL means that when the cap raises player salaries raise in line with it. So % wise no one actually has any more cap space.
If Carlton are really looking at a small goalkicking pressure forward with a high work rate, then there is an untried kid named Konstanty at the Swans who in his draft year in the under 18s for Gippsland Power was second in that comp overall for his pressure acts. In the Swans write up they say he plays in a similar way to Papley (which of course could be just the big sell to their supporters....) but he wouldn`t cost that much I imagine, although he would need time to develop and perhaps Carlton would rather someone straight away, but the Swans would seem to have that area covered quite well for at least a few years and the kid might want to get his career going sooner. I must also say that I find the allowance of one particular flag that represents a certain middle eastern state being displayed on here seems to be very political, one sided and quite tasteless actually, and does not belong on a sports site like this!!!Think Williams and Motlop could be the missing pieces our forward line needed…
Also not sure we actually need a ready to go KPD, more a young KPD that can learn the craft under Weitering, with an eye to take McGoverns spot in a few years… If we want a ready to go KPD, SDK would be the one to chase whilst his stocks are the lowest they’ve been…
IMO… If we had $800k to spend on Hayward… Another elite mid would be my focus now…

Perhaps a reason why a few clubs have so many oocAgree in part, but I've heard/read a lot of contracts have been negotiated so that they increase proportionately to the cap increasing.
If the cap is going up by 15%, many of those existing contracts will also increase by 15% and eat into that $2 million.
Add my voice to not being a fan of said flag everytime I open the Carlton page, the poster is a Carlton mod, so I’m not sure why it wouldn’t be for Carlton mods to deal with. This is not something for Carlton mods to deal with. Avatars are displayed site-wide, and both sides are represented. It's a political issue. Feel free to contact administrators with any concerns.
Tyson would be an amazing addition - get to work Eddie please. The media have been hinting that Tyson would rather live and play in the big smoke rather than down in sleepy hollow. Might be a smokescreen but if true would be the opposite of how they landed a few like Cameron and Dangerfield.
We need to add a moustache clause into our contracts.Ainsworth has the world's most futile moustache. Pass.

I understand the window opinion but Im not a fan of Zurhaar. i dont like his game, it appears conditional to me.No but the so called ‘window’ closes very quickly so I’d be striking while the iron is hot.
I’ve said it before I think Zurhaar would be great for us and LDU would be the perfect Cripps replacement when he decides to retire.
Another ‘speedy’ mid would be exactly what we need.
