We have discussed whether our players are on contracts in line with the increase in the salary cap, for any club where most st player contracts are not, they are going to have a lot of $$$$ to target players.

The cap rises $2M next year alone, if there was a any free agent that plays an area of need, we should have no hesitation to pay up.

When the cap goes up by $2M in one year, paying AA calibre players $800,000 per year, isn’t crazy money, it will be closer to the norm.
I may be wrong, but I think part of the collective bargaining with the AFLPA and AFL means that when the cap raises player salaries raise in line with it. So % wise no one actually has any more cap space.

Agree in part, but I've heard/read a lot of contracts have been negotiated so that they increase proportionately to the cap increasing.

If the cap is going up by 15%, many of those existing contracts will also increase by 15% and eat into that $2 million.

Would have been happy to add Hardwick but I’m not disappointed he is off the table. I personally think we need to add more class and x-factor, guys who are more of a threat in front of goal and can capitalise on the few chances they get. I know Hardwick has kicked multiple goals a few times, but he can’t be relied upon for that. We have a few grunt work types, need the damaging type. Stengle may be overpriced but he’s just the type we need. Like all of us I hope that Motlop becomes that for us, but it may take some time.

By Geelong roll over, you mean not pay up?

I’d suggest the only reason he’s looking or the stories are out there, is because their offer doesn’t meet his valuation in the market.

Geelong have no say here, he’s a UFA
Correct, he is on a lot less than 800k currently. They won't get into a bidding war for someone internally they already see as high risk.

The media have been hinting that Tyson would rather live and play in the big smoke rather than down in sleepy hollow. Might be a smokescreen but if true would be the opposite of how they landed a few like Cameron and Dangerfield.

If we were willing to offer Hayward around 800K then we can do the same for Stengle... and I rate Tyson more highly than Hayward.

Imagine how scary our forward line looks with Stengle buzzing around the feet of Harry and Charlie! I'm frikkin salivating! Kill em in the air... and kill em on the ground

Just get it done Austin!

Haywards offer started with a 6 not 800k. But Stengle would be worth it i think

Why those choices Benaly28? are you after instant success only?

No but the so called ‘window’ closes very quickly so I’d be striking while the iron is hot.

I’ve said it before I think Zurhaar would be great for us and LDU would be the perfect Cripps replacement when he decides to retire.

Another ‘speedy’ mid would be exactly what we need.

We 100% we’re not willing to offer Hayward anywhere near $800k

Perhaps you should look at the career of the player before you comment. Had one good season and you’re happy to pay him 850k a season?? There's a reason the cats aren't paying that.
You’re…

And no, I don’t think he’s worth $850k but he’s certainly a very very good player and one that would make any team better.

By the way, what year are you referring to as his 1 good season?

So you agree he's not worth the money. Thank you.
