Future 1st l would assume. Under contract l think so it has to be something decent.

It could be a future first with getting their second to help match this year.

I would offer our future second for him and a third though.

Either way if we trade for him we need to find a way to get a 24 pick coming back.

I'd perhaps wait until there's something more concrete than rando poster rumours to start speculating but that's just me.

The guy has history. Reading into it, I am certain he will request a trade to us….
Well your instincts were spot on about Fagan, I guess...

Mitch Lewis when fit is a good player. However, coming off a knee, I'd be surprised if we'd done much more than kick the tyres. Our track record getting players right has been discussed at length, but Doedee would be fresh in the mind - that and the fact Lewis wouldn't be ready until mid-year at best.

Best to take someone ready to go from Rd1, requiring limited draft outlay, to help play a role especially given we have some talent coming through next year by all reports. Others have had success doing similar (e.g. Leigh Brown at Collingwood).

Must say I’ve never been more relaxed about losing such a key player. Reality is he nearly went last year. And helped us win a bloody flag!

Obviously we can’t replace Joe. As others have pointed out we have a seriously potent forward line so it’s less about goals, even though we are replacing our leading goalkicker.

In my view the two most important things Joe did in a structural sense was 1. Cop the best defender ever week and 2. Did some ruck minutes. Two very different qualities!

Hippy or Morris with the best key defender each week would be a struggle. So they need some help in the air.

I don’t think Oscar can solo ruck. We don’t want hippy in there. We don’t want Dunkley in there.

Therefore the only genuine options on our list are Smith or Fort. I favour Smith as he is a monster of a bloke and very competitive in marking contests - did well a few times this year when it was just dumped on his head to get it ground. That’s all we need really.

The problem with either of these guys playing is you lose a bit of run. A 5th permanent bench player would help but i am not sure that’s happening?

I do think it makes sense to get someone in as insurance. And we have zero draft capital. It’s tempting to say we have free money to spend- BUT it still has value. $800k or so front loaded to a couple of players could make the difference between retaining them or not. This is why i’d be saying no to Tom Lynch. We would be paying him the same as Joe for 2 years. And he can’t ruck with his injuries surely?

I thought Himmelberg was a nice cheap option but alas off he’s off to the gc

Kreuger has potential.

Taberner seems serviceable and not too old but maybe injury prone?

Casboult just seems too old but at least he’s free and cheap.

I wouldn’t be going for Membrey unless he can somehow ruck, he is listed at 188cm!

Anyway as others have said i am sure we will have a plan.
Hello, congrats on the flag. As a matter of interest, how did you rate GWS? Better than Geelong and swans, or not quite as good.
Would you like a swap of Robertson for Harry Himmelberg?
Any other trades possible this off season between Brisbane, GWS?
Perhaps your 2025r1,r2,robertson for 19,21

I’d expect Lewis is more of an option for us bringing in after 2025. We just don’t have the draft capital to make bigger moves this off season unless someone of note wants to leave. He’d be ok but there’s only so many ACL tears you’d want on the list.

There will be options for us. We will be creative and make things happen. Our squad is still very good and will just have to adapt and overcome a bit like we did this year.

I had GWS as playing the the GF at the start of the season, i thought you guys were big, strong, out of the limelight and hungry. GWS kinda reminded me of the Geelong teams the Lions faced a few years back, just big hard bodies that bullied teams. then during the season there seemed time of fragility, where minds just couldn't stay in the game for some reason, a team distracted not just single players. In the finals this showed up big time, what ever it is where a whole team just turns off you have to solve or you will continue to be just a good finals team. Like the suns whom cant win away from home, GWS need to work on their leaders to 'lead' when they see the momentum changes happening.

thanks for dropping into our group.

If Mitch Lewis and Doedee come good from July onwards it would certainly put us right into contention. But after acl's you never know what your going to get. Probable worth the role of the dice for me. Not really much out there the in terms KPF in any case.

Couldnt help myself went to the Hawk Board to see the merit in that Lewis post, the guy who posted it didn't suggest what we might give up, but certainly gets treated like he has some inside knowledge.

Unsure if it's correct or not but supposedly Lewis went to Vegas with our boys last year, so perhaps he's friends with some of our list, supposedly annoyed about his injury history having had an injury incorrectly diagnosed as a sprain.

But brace yourselves the only way we can make it happen (i think) would be to trade a player as have zero spare draft picks and we love all our players :(

Lewis is REAL good, I see him a bit like Curnow was a few years ago - where Carlton fans knew he’d be the goods if he ever got on the park.

I actually like it.

He’d be cheaper than he otherwise would be, so we might be able to work something out with some Dom Ambrogio magic. We’d just have to back our medical staff in.

If Hawthorn the club feels like Hawthorn the fans, we run away. It doesn’t matter what he did 2-3 years ago with his injury history. He’s worth a future third or fourth and that’s it. If they want a first, we walk away. We don’t need him, we are not desperate. Getting him is a risk and and yes has potential for massive reward but also potential for another Doedee.

They seem to think Lewis is the second coming of Jesus over there the way they are carrying on.
Not Lewis, but Weddle, and to some extent Watson.
Quite surprised by some of what’s been posted on the Hawks board. It’s usually quite sensible, but 2 firsts, or Lohmann and a first, etc, for an injury riddled player?
Plus they fail to realise, or are ignoring, the fact we need points this year.

😜 Lohmann was a first round pick a couple of years ago and Mitchell was taken at a pick in the 60’s or 70’s from memory.
No matter what Mitchell has done in the past, how is he possibly worth more than Lohmann right now?
Kidding themselves!

if this is all true they’ll value Lewis more than the general trade market and rightly so considering what they’ve invested in him. But the two ACL’s will bring the value down a bit and that’s why our guys are sniffing around. Im
Keen for the right price. We are only considering this guy because of how little (in our eyes) we think we might be able to hand over.

Agreed, while I’d love Lewis we shouldn’t sell the farm for him. Almost everyone they’ve suggested on the hawks board is off limits, if we can’t get it done with fringe players and future picks then it’s not worth it.
