Off field and culture issues aside any chance we end up like Melbourne after they won the flag?

They haven't got back there because of a lack of a key forward. The off field issues aside we are not to different:
  • strong defence
  • strong midfield
  • forwards:

Pickett - Cameron
Fritsch - Lohman
Neal bullen/Melscham - Ah Chee
McDonald - Hipwood
Luke Jackson - Smith/Fort

They had brown and McDonald and Jackson none of them outstanding on their own but the sum of the parts where more then the individual. Not too dissimilar to our key forwards take brown and replace him with a younger player they fall away take out Jo and replace him with a younger player....

What about Rayner and Bailey
  • Morris (admittedly 2nd year, but can take a grab, kick a goal, and good use)
  • Linc (coming off an ACL)

The talk of the town has been that we had a key forward free agent on the hook for the end of 2025.

When I scrolled through the list of FA’s I could only find Fogarty and Allen.

Given Fogarty has re signed…was it him and he’s had a change of mind?

If it’s Allen, I am very surprised given he’s co-captain.

Any thoughts on who we had (or still have) in our sights?

A 19 yo is never this year, but 203 cm forward is always worth another look.
A tall is usually given many years (5-7) on an AFL list to prove that they can't play before being discarded. If this guy at his height gets cut after 2 years, that says a lot.

Also we need mature depth in case of injury. If we want a promising ruck/forward, we already have that in Henry Smith.

I saw a stat today that Bailey has the fourth most goals for us since 2020 after Charlie, Joe and Eric. Never understood the calls to trade him.

I would absolutely trade him for an a grade key forward, but outside of that it would be pointless.

It's all talk.

I doubt we have anyone in our sights.

But we know who could conceivably could be available or gettable and we'll monitor that during 2025.

I know Joe has 90% retired but with someone like Joe we'll always have it in the back of our mind for a couple more years .

It's still always possible something emerges from our current list.

If that talk has any truth to it you’d think it’s likely Lewis given it is very, very unlikely Allen would leave WC.

The thing is we are still in the premiership window and have list spot issues this year.
Lions look like they will be keeping a spot for Day or another player with experience.
In my opinion Lions will take Tom Gillett 201cm before looking at Scully.
Or someone else in this years draft with decent height and prospects.
