What we don’t need is another white knight that is going to save the team, we have talent and experience we now just need some youthful run.. No team has given fewer games to their rookies over the past 2 years than us.. Can’t remember the last rising star we had, we should get 2 picks before a bid on camporeale twins, with those 2 we have a chance for 4 top picks.

Hypothetical put up on the Freo board -

'Theoretical question. If Carlton, who seem to need a key defender, offered their round one pick for Cox, which meant we could get Bolton and Pickett this year, would we do it?'

Didn't he sign on for a mega deal not too long ago?
Would be doing everything possible to take our pick this year to the draft. F1 for Cox could be a decent get for us - not sure if they would be willing to do that. Injuries would also have to be looked at ofc

Extended for 6 years at the end of last season, can offer some flexibility as he can play at either end & at 26 should have plenty of footy ahead of him.
His best footy has seen him make an extended AA squad but there has to be some concern re: his hamstring.
If you're confident in his ability to stay on the park, you probably do it.

Just with Pittonet seeing quite a few saying to trade him because he "isn't good enough". Can anyone name another back-up ruck in the comp that is better? Look at just the finals teams - I don't know if I can even name the back-up ruck for Swans, Giants, or Lions. And TDK does have a bit of an injury history so we do need someone half-decent in case.

Edit: Just looked up the GWS list and apparently Preuss (who is their 2nd ruck) is still in the AFL system - thought he retired last year for some reason.

Preuss for GWS is better
Ladhams for Sydney is better
Soldo for Port is better
Reeves for Hawks is better
SDK and Conway for the Cats are better
Fort for the Lions is better
Darcy and Lobb for the Dogs are better

Every finals team. Many teams outside the 8 also have better back up rucks than Pitto.

I will disagree easily with Preuss, Ladhams and Fort. Soldo was extremely overrated at the Tigers and has not improved at all since crossing over. Darcy and Lobb are in their 22 so they aren't back-up rucks on their list. Reeves off what he has shown is not better than Pittonet yet but probably will be. However that is probably just off his height because he is more one-dimensional than Pittonet. SDK/Conway still young but not sure SDK will ever be a full time ruck.

What’s a more realistic outcome to getting two first round picks in this draft.

Taking 11 to the draft and then trading our 2nd and any picks for Carrol and Owies for 16-20 pick

Or

Trading 11 and 31 and maybe more for two picks 15-18?

I’d say it would come down to, is HOK ready to step up and be a back up ruck next year? If yes, then trading Pitto for a pick makes sense, if no, then not so much.

If we were to trade Pitt, we would need to bring another ruck in somewhere, so unless we got a 2nd for him and brought one in as a FA or a rookie, i dont see much benefit.

Yes exactly my point - unless we are 100% confident in HOK being able to step up in case of a TDK injury than there is no point moving on Pittonet (unless his salary is high which I doubt). The other thing we need to consider is TDK is a free agent next year and could easily move on with some of the offers other teams will give him

It doesn't matter the player but the thought process behind the bolded always makes me laugh. "He's no good, give me something for him"

TDK has now surpassed him & that was always the plan but when Pittonet is fit he can play a role.

Preuss? hasn't played a game in god knows how long and literally has spent the last decade playing VFL

Ladhams? A meth using delist bin candidate. More talented yes but he is awful now.

Soldo? Sure

Reeves? Pittonet would and has absolute mauled him, last year Lewis Young and Jack Silvagni were beating him so badly that they subbed him out

SDK and Conway? Neither are worth a grain of salt in the ruck. SDK a better player but not a better ruck

Fort? Played 35 games in his career and never once been anything more than a backup

Darcy and Lobb? Better players but neither are specialist rucks.

Pitto is fine as a back up. Serviceable at best but wouldn't be on big coin and is plenty good enough to hold down the fort if TDK goes down. Keeping him around until HoK has proven himself at AFL level is smart list management

Brayden Crossley from Southport would be a massive upgrade on Pittonet

Would love to know where our cap stands.
If TDK takes another step up after preseason can we afford to keep him with a $1.2m price tag?
If there’s a chance we can’t match the offers that will come, smart play is to off load him now for max value.

I do not want to trade him, his salary on the open market could be insane

TDK is a player you'd consider trading out a big name layer to keep him around. He may be the best player in the competition within the next few years if he continues on his trajectory

Pittonet wont be traded. What I hope is that O’Keefe has a good pre season and goes past him in 2025 as next up behind TDK

The kid can play and also play forward

Admittedly I don't watch every VFL game but been very happy with what I have seen - I think the big question would probably be around his endurance. Can he run out a game as a ruck or is he benefiting now with the support of Mirkov?

100% just asking the question around the cap & his possible salary.
English just re signed for circa $1m, yes he was all Australian, but I think TDK has a higher ceiling.
We should have locked him in already

Endurance isn’t an issue for him. Runs well

Issues are he has done his hammy twice this year and needs a bit more size and consistency. Still raw

He just needs games now
