Game Day 2024 Trade Period - Lian Yu - that liminal space between trade and draft.

I continue to be completely bemused that everything suggests we can "get away with" 9 and 16 while Baker is consistently talked about as pick 10-15 and Rioli is clearly pick 6. We honestly seem to be comfortably getting the most reasonable price on the best and most contracted player at Richmond.

Always funny watching someone have nothing going in their life so they associate their value with their sport team
You shut up sir, I have plenty else going on.

Would we actually take Tim Kelly if he was cheap?

Well under this scenario I was hopeful we could give 6 and 27. So, keep 12 and 16.

Obviously, if it meant we gave 6 and 16 then the 2 spot downgrade from 10 to 12 would’ve been pointless.

I just think 6 and 9 for Bolton and Rioli align better then the other way around.
Richmond will want 6+16. We will likely save a F2 downgrade.

Johnson and Jackson are key. Johnson needs to double his average clearance numbers and Jackson needs to start taking his marks. People are underestimating having a player life Fyfe to take the hits while also clearance dominant.
Fyfe isn't clearance dominant though. Yes we need a bigger body in there o compliment our midfield if Fyfe isnt there. Which is why Johnson/NOD/Erasmus are such keys to our 2025 chances. I also think Luke Jackson will spend more time as a midfielder in 2025.

There is no way we are throwing in a F2 with the deal if anything it would be the other way around, that we want a bit more back so we haggle a F2 for a F3. Otherwise it will just be 9 and 16.
I think the deal will depend on how much salary Richmond absorb. I wouldn't mind a deal of 9, 16 and 27 with a later pick coming back if Richmond pays a significant part of Boltons salary.

I would take him. He is old but gotta be better than fyfe

If Fyfe and JOM retired right now, then I would take Kelly 100%.
The problem is they won’t and our selection committee isn’t brave enough and we’ll be playing Fyfe, JOM, Walters and Kelly.
So, for that reason I’d hate to pick him up.

I say let him rot at West Coast.

Something that kind of stood out in the GF were the footskills. Warner probably butchered it the most, and he is comfortably better by foot than all three players you mentioned.

In modern football, when you need to be able to adjust offence on-field to what the opposition is giving you defensively, and also counter attack at speed - footskills, decision making and skill execution have never been more important.

I question how many Johnson/NOD/Erasmus/Sharp/Emmett/Banfield types one team can successfully carry in modern day football. I think footskills (ideally combined with leg speed) should be the number one directive for any incoming talent. I'd say of the players mentioned above, Johnson is the closest to being at an acceptable level. But he's far from elite in this area, and his in-game spatial awareness is a work in progress to say the least.

You can carry a few players at a pass/just acceptable level in regards to footskills, but without enough of it in your best 18, you're left with a graft/desperation/stamina/hustle team, without the necessary technique/silk to both control a game, and cut an opposition to shreds on the fast break/counter attack.

I'd suggest Young, Walters and Ryan (when he lowers his eyes) are our only elite kicks, and with Walters all but over and Mundy out the door, it's a cause for concern.

Why would you even with those two retiring?

We have Erasmus, Johnson and O’Driscoll who need midfield minutes and also Bolton who can move through there too.
**** Kelly

Trade period doesn't start for another week so listening to the radio is a waste of time. Is there any chatter on when the Bolton trade will be done?

I think it gets done in the first week. Multiple journos reporting 9+16 already.

Contrast with Houston, for example, which clearly seems like its going to the wire, especially if it is Carlton. Because they are being stingy campaigners.
