List Mgmt. 2024 List Management thread - Trade Targets Part 2

I have just read Melbourne now won’t be trading Clarry Oliver. Bit of a circus this.

Also I’m dead certain Bulldogs won’t lie down and accept a second round pick for B. Smith. Looking at his clip the other day he looks in very good physical condition. Is an early draft pick that has played high level football. Definitely a first round pick.

Where is this Smith for pick 20 rubbish originate from that the likes of Lyon and Watson were debating. Geelong have pick 15 and around 35. Pick 35 might get pushed out to 40 by time compo is handed out. Pick 15 will end up with Bulldogs.

Just in case anyone has forgotten when the actual trade period starts and we can stop all this media driven conjecture based on mostly third hand rumours and player managers wanting to drive up player value. View attachment 2130927

It really starts today at the combine, as all the list managers are in the same place

I think Geelong have chewed off more than they can bite. He wants to go to Geelong but all they have to offer is F1.

If I’m Geelong - massive risk in taking on his contract. I absolutely get why they are low balling.

To me Melbourne is in free fall, unfortunately they probably don’t implode this year.

I think Melbourne are the ones that messed this up.
Geelong just saw an opportunity and Demons sphincters tightened when they realised their stuff up.
I think they just need to trade him. There’s something clearly not right.

I think they were hoping an Adelaide or Saints or anyone with decent picks would come along.

Melbourne are on the precipice. I think they’re bright enough to see it, but the problem is EVERY club can definitely see it.

Pennies on the dollar for Clarry or Petracca is obviously not great, but they won’t get better.

They would be best suited clearing out, but with that said, Pickett at 23 is far from someone that needs to be moved on.

Jesus Christ Melbourne is beyond being a dumpster fire. You can't try to trade a bloke 2 years in a row and not follow through. The people running that place need to be fired into the sun
One gone (roffey) and one of goodwins closest allies as well (the head of leadership).

How far will they go, because pert as ceo going behind the recruiting teams back on this isn’t a great endorsement of either party

Imho Melbourne not trading Oliver rekindles the tinniest flame of hope on Kozzie for us ( probably all BS but it’s all we’ve got to work with )

Fascinating watch that one

Yeh but they’ve got a suitor ( Freo) at the ready with decent picks
Could Port match us after the Lukoscius deal ?

Pick 15 is the pick 20 they're talking about

They remind me so much of the Eagles in the 2000’s.
A win at all costs culture & we’ll deal with the consequences later.

They need a new, progressive board. A board that sees a young man struggling with living in Melbourne and does what it takes to make him happy. Even if that means leaving the club. That sort of board.

We have completely failed to draft another elite small forward since Sonny and then got very lucky and then very unlucky with Schultz.

Cooper Simpson says hi. 👋

One thing I haven’t read on the last 12,000 posts is what this guy might become. Is he another Bolton or Sonny? Probably not. But those guys don’t grow on trees. Super cooper’s got potential to be another solid contributor. Maybe we get either Pickett or Bolton but not both. Could cooper take the next step in year two?

Yes, but Pickett is far from their issue or at an age to consider.

Imagine keeping Petracca and Oliver but trading Pickett! That would be beyond horrendous for them.

Port aren’t a worry to us.

Anyone who thinks we should trade for an extra F1 next year knows nothing about AFL trading obviously.

Presumably the idea is to stockpile draft capital for Chad Warner? What a dumb idea.

Firstly all we need is a single first round pick (our own will be fine) to get into the picture for Warner next year. We would also have our 2026 R1 pick available.

In the AFL the player picks the club they want to go to and that’s it. A deal then gets done with whatever draft capital teams have available.
Unless it’s completely and ridiculously out of the required range a deal inevitably gets done.

If Collingwood had pick 10 this year - Petracca would be going there. They have nothing but next years F1 so that’s a rare example where not enough capital is in the hands of the buying club.

You will notice something in the AFL - the really big clubs, the ones in perennial finals recently - I’m talking Geelong, pies, even Brisbane the last few years, none of these teams are stockpiling future picks to please a rival club. That is the mindset of a weak, passive, minnow club.

The only ones laughing will be Sydney if we trade for an F1.

Take geelong - they knew Bailey smith was coming to them over 12 months ago. Was Andrew Mackie sitting around last year saying “oh gosh let’s get an extra R1 pick next year to please the Bulldogs”?

Was he ****.

They spent every bit of capital they had, used pick 11 on Conor o Sullivan.
As for the bulldogs? They will have to just suck it up and take pick 15.

Imagine for a second the roles were reversed. Let’s say Hayden Young had one year remaining on his deal and every one knew that he wanted to get to Carlton next year.
Do we really think Carlton would be trading out of this draft into next year so they could give us an extra pick next year? Even better - from north Melbourne, so probably a future top 5 pick?
You must be joking. Carlton would not give a rats ass about us. They won’t even put pick 11 on the table this year for a dual AA in Houston!

Use the picks this year on trades or draft selections.
We need one pick in the first 18 selections next year to be able to trade for the chad if he nominates us. That’s all. Anything more than that is a waste of draft capital.

A welcome voice of reason.
