We have seen enough times now that who a player supported growing up means Jack shit. Clark and Johnson and amiss were all from massive eagles families too. Brandon matera?
Yeo was a dockers diehard

List goes on.

Eagles are 5 plus years away from even a finals appearance. What is Warner - 23?
He would be 29 before they are back in the conversation. Surely that rules players of that age out of west coast?

West Coast are only thinking three years, which I am glad about because it will fail.

I posted the career stats for JUH and McDonald and they're nearly identical..not sure how JUH is so much better when statically speaking hes about par.

McDonald could absolutely be AA one day. Watched him against Collingwood and he has the smarts. Knows where to run and how to create space.

But currently I wouldnt give up 3 firsts for him.
The problem with young player is stats / production is a smaller part of the story.

JUH has so much hype because of his traits, he could be truly elite.
He's not using them yet for max impact but there's flashes.
He's had bursts which show what he's capable of if he puts on size, gets AFL fitness and continues to develop.

McDonald has actually done similar, but the method (i.e.the traits) aren't as highly valued, in my view because they can be countered or shut down more easily.

Who falls out of our midfield- already stacked but a work in progress and unproven…
Erasmus has gotta go, but he is at present a sub…trade value, extremely low - a pick in the 25-40 range
Fyfe - TBA his durability.

I wanted Warner in his draft year, and I couldn’t believe he went so late at 39 - admittedly a midfielders draft as most are where we got Serong and Young early and got seduced by the Henry bid and made an early play.
The ‘Chad’ is that line breaking, goal kicking mid that we desperately need.
I was thinking about what type of list moves would need to happen to get Chad (assuming we get Logan):
  • We would need to free up about $800k (maybe even more) of cap space
  • We have around $2.5-2.7m tied to three players (Darcy, Jackson, Mcdonald) so this will be difficult
  • Fyfe would be 34 and JOM would be 32 years old. To save list space and cap space both would need to retire.
  • We could potentially keep Ras and play him as a forward first mid second but we may need the draft capital
  • We would need a top 6 first round pick

Remember guys this is years away from happening and we should not get our hopes up.

I am 100% on Treacy vs McDonald.

Treacy is good enough to kick 40 goals, McDonald would more than likely take 2 first round picks, and we have other weaknesses on our list. Treacy also presents quite well up the line, and with either mark the ball or at least bring it to ground.

This is what I'm thinking

If we could get a gun small forward plus a gun third tall if Sturt doesn't make it through free agency like Zurhaar.

Plus we could move up the draft with our first few picks to get a top 5 pick. We might be able to score a gun mid that will eventually replace Fyfe when he retires.

Fyfe, Walters, Banfield and Hughes all need replacing.

Logan 'at the moment' McDonald 😀

Speaking to Fox Footy post-match, McDonald was coy when probed about his contract situation.

Demons great Garry Lyon cheekily posed: “I am aware you’re out of contract and my football club is looking for a big key forward, where’s that all sitting at the moment?”

To which McDonald responded: “I’m happy just letting my manager and the club work through that. I’m happy playing footy for the Swans at the moment and I’m loving my time.”

their best player yesterday was a first gamer with a girlfriend in Vic. 3 years could make it on Poshman's optimism thread

Is that the best thread on bigfooty you are referencing? Hope abounds as does the knowledge of our decade of dominance having just begun.

To coincide with the eagles being rabble for at least a few more years. Followed by four years of finishing 9-11th. Chefs kiss!

This is gonna go on all year and damn it's gonna be exhausting 😩
