I’ll pay Weller, but by all reports we were blindsided with an incredibly late request. From memory there was like 48 hours of trade period left. I may have it wrong, but from memory it caught us completely off guard. I don’t know all the details. I’d love to know what the next offer was.

Schultz isn’t being hard ass. Collingwood won the flag and we knew ‘pick 19’ would be in the 20s. It ended up being pick 25.

Schultz for 25 and 35? Yeah, we were real hard ass about that.

Just had a nice read recapping the Weller deal.

Gold Coast offered 24, Matera and Wilson.

They then offered to upgrade our pick 5 to 2.

They’re both hilariously bad offers.

Freo knew no one wants to actively seek Gold Coast. Stood firm and deal was completed. Gold Coast also had 4 picks inside top 10 the year before and were constantly drafting and losing players.

Although I said I pay Weller. I don’t think we were being hard. We just placed a marker on the table knowing Gold Coast had no other options.

I would only be moving a pick into next year if we were already sending our f1 as part of the Bolton/Baker trades. I wouldn't be stoked on it but its in the realm of acceptable, unlike pick 10 for Baker which I think the consensus is pretty clear how bad that is.
9+16 for Bolton+29
10 for Norths F1
Our F1 for Baker (which would be a massive gamble but with the addition of both Baker and Bolton you would hope its above pick 14). Now that I have just typed that out I still don't like it.

Agreeing with most that there isn't a need to add value into next years draft. If Warner chooses us uncontracted, we have 2 firsts to satisfy Sydney. There is no need to add to it, not to mention there is odds on to have one player on the move anyway.

Weller requested the trade on the final day of the trade period. I’ll actually reject my initial comment about paying Weller.
There’s nothing hard ass at all about that trade.
The end result was awesome, but wasn’t like we were knobs about that. I’d argue Weller blindsided both clubs. Suns simply had to blink first.

Using NOD as an inside tagger would be an incredible waste of his abilities.

I like that the club are at least planning around having that lever to pull. He might only play 4 or 5 games in a run with role next season but it's a good option to have if Bontempelli etc get off the chain.

Can’t see the upside of a Baker. I mean who does he replace? JOM on the defensive wing? Back half? Walker. Then we lose a lockdown defender. Wagner? He’s been okay, is Baker really going to suddenly get that much better?

Let West Coast have him at their first round pick. That’s disgustingly over for a player you can easily get in state leagues

Any club with trade targets should take the extra first. I much prefer Warner or Pickett next year (if we can't this year) over the as yet unknown player available at pick #10/11

Warner kicked 34.18 this season. He would be the small forward we hope we get with a mid first round pick.



Pickett and Bolton very similar to Warner, except Warner had an elite impact in stoppages too for about twice the goal assists.

A small forward we draft could also kick a similar number of goals in a year or two (see Nick Watson) for a fraction of the cost picks and money wise
