Can't really stop player managers or the people close to the player contacted for background information, from leaking that information.

One of their aims would be for their player to be drafted higher than normal so that he can from an increase in base salary.

Not to mention when these player's are interviewed, they're asked which club's have spoken to them.

Not to mention we are going to have late picks in this years and next years draft, at some stage we are going to have to draft multiple kpp . May as well do it in a draft with great depth of talent.

as he is 31. At 190cm his flexibility has been invaluable, don't know where this side would be without his ability to play multiple positions.
Given that it usually takes a draftee 2 - 3 years to find his footing in the afl, it makes some sense to target someone in this years draft.

Yea we should draft 4, I would rather take someone like polkinghorne over taking aj in the rookie draft.

We're not going to do that. It's not a consideration. AJ and Markov are getting picked up in the rookie draft no matter what. Clubs don't do that to players when they've committed to rookie-listing the players. Absolutely 0% chance of Collingwood going back on their word.

Yeah but sometimes you think you're taking the Butters type over the Rayner type and you're actually taking Tom Scully and Jack Trengove over Dustin Martin. It's not as easy as dismissing the "type" of player.

It's risk versus reward. However, I'm with Manic and think they go the dynamic athlete a bit too much over the pure footballer.

Draft picks: 52, 55, 60, 66, 82 (likely to use three selections)


Collingwood has the latest start to the draft of any club. Its first pick – currently No.52 – will come in a handful of spots once bids rule out other selections, but it won't be a significant rise. The Pies are set to use three picks at the draft and have been looking at talls in their region of picks. If Dandenong defender Noah Mraz got through to their pick, the Magpies would likely pounce, while they have also looked at defensive trio Riak Andrew (tied to Melbourne's NGA), Adrian Cole (St Kilda NGA) and Lachie Voss as well as South Australian forward Charlie West. Clancy Dennis, a key back who is recovering from foot surgery, has also been considered by the Pies. They have also done work on some athletic midfield/forward options in Richmond VFL talent Sam Davidson, Tasmanian Nathaniel Sulzberger, Northern Knight Lucas McInerney and Sydney Academy runner Joel Cochran. Don't be surprised if the Pies pull a bid on the Swans midfielder, who ran the best 2km time trial at the Draft Combine.

They kind of have to if you see a decent gap, don't they? How can you go, well we think this guy is a much better prospect but we're going to pick this guy instead. It'd be pretty incompetent.

It's just tough. They're trying to predict the future and there's a lot of guesswork involved. I think there's a bit of FOMO too sometimes leading to the blokes who have the occasional wow moment going higher than the sure thing, you don't want to miss Buddy or Dusty when you had a shot at them.

Say we trade 52 and 55 to move up to somewhere like 42/43, I can see that pick being best player available. Then use the remaning picks to address the needs.

No vanilla type attributes
Where we are picking from is cherry ripe for picking players who have something outs adding about them, even if it’s just one trait.
Sure they will lack in consistency and in most categories but as long as they have one outstanding trait ie speed, or a vertical leap, or X factor around goals, etc that’s the type of players we should be going for.

Do not select the good all rounder types that are merely average in very category without any special skill to excel at the top level
