It is weird. Otherwise that extra pick goes to waste and we moved down 2 spots for no reason.
The two pick difference doesn't mean much/anything. It's possible we do something with it. However, maybe we wanted it in hand if certain things played out a certain way and they didn't, in that case maybe it does just go to waste. The cost was so minor that taking it just in case we needed it is fair enough.

Plus trading a pick out for points is still on the cards.

I'm fully expecting (hoping for) us to be on the clock tomorrow night, before trading that pick and another for a future 2nd or something
We'll use the first on someone we "couldn't believe he was still there - we had him at ..." the second might go.

If your a standout tall you're still going in the top dozen or so each and every draft just like always.

Clearly this year there was not many KPP prospects in the same class as a Darcy, JUH, H McKay, Curnow etc.

No way any of them are lasting to pick 27 in this or any draft.

You're reaching.
Clubs will rate players differently. Reported that Roos offered their F1 from pick 8. So clearly rated Whitlock as a top 10 pick.

Completely agree

Incorrect

If they got pick 8 they wouldn’t have used it on Whitlock. Seriously
Before the draft began, Cal said they were interviewing the first round talls and he was expecting them to trade back in. Pretty confident that at 8 it would have been Tauru - but once he was gone god knows how they rated Armstrong/Faull/Whitlock - I doubt they would have risked Trainor. If someone said yes earlier, they may very well have been willing to pay their full F1 for Whitlock without getting the F2 back - it may have gone well for them, despite it looking so bad because he went at 27 or whatever the number was.

Stupid tweet, they weren’t ever taking Whitlock with pick 8. More likely they were taking the best tall available with whatever pick they received, and Whitlock was it when they finally got a trade.

Not clearly at all.

They probably would have taken someone else for starters don't you think?

Probably worse if they did take Whitlock at 8 given no one else rated him enough across the first 26 selections.

Besides with that logic we should have been seen as massive winners in 2020 when we turned our F1 into not one but 2 players on draft night.

It's a massive gamble and if he at pick 27 turns out like Poulter (30) and/or McMahon (31) a massive fail. He needs to be a star!

With no Daicos equivalent on the way I'd rather the top 5 pick in the hand in 2025.
