Stupid tweet, they weren’t ever taking Whitlock with pick 8. More likely they were taking the best tall available with whatever pick they received, and Whitlock was it when they finally got a trade.
Generally you don't make a trade up just to take the best player available, it is usually done to take a specific player. If North got pick 8, they very well may have taken matt whitlock with that pick.

They’ve thrown away pick 1 or 2 for picks 27 and another in the 20s

It’s crazy what happens when you put a fa e to a number the deals that get done.

They’ll be asking for a bail out package next year
Book mark it

Don't see OFarrell, Sims, Gerryn or Mraz lasting.

I am still hoping for Dennis, Nicholls and Kennedy.

Nervous 24 hours.
There's still Jobe Shanahan and Jack Whitlock to go, plus the four you "don't see lasting", plus the three others you've listed there makes 9 players.

There's only 17 picks between the start of tomorrow our first pick, so it's unlikely that all 9 of those guys will go in those 17. There's also a bunch of other highly rated players still likely to get picked up in that range.

With still a few FS picks & Academy picks yet to come, I can see our 1st selection - which is currently 45 - rising to potentially 42. With the players remaining on the board, I think that we should get at least 2, if not 3, useful draftees to pick up. With that in mind, hopefully someone will make a bid on one of the Camporeale boys as well as Logan Smith (GWS Academy), Adrian Cole (St Kilda Academy, I think) & Joel Cochran (Sydney Academy) before our 1st pick on Thursday night. Let's remain positive.

Fingers Crossed 🤞

Right now it's hard to see if we can make much out of our draft hand with plenty of others having multiple selections to play with.

If we like Peckett and are prepared to draft him we could make a bid and if St Kilda match that would keep one more live selection on the table come our 3rd pick. It's a bloody small win but I'd take it. Other FS/NGA names we were possibly interested in were mentioned also somewhere in the media. Perhaps we can manipulate this to our benefit one selection at a time (as long as we're prepared to take the players).

If Brisbane still hold 46 and 47 by the time 45 comes around, if they had a real hard on for a player at our selection (and it wasn't one we wanted) we could try and wrangle 46 and 47 out of them leaving us with 46,47,48. Trade 53 for a F3.

Unlikely but I'm desperate for anything at this stage.

That's not how that works.

There won't be any more cases of multiple picks being used to match a bid at this point, more than likely, so every bid that gets made will exhaust one pick but add one player to the order, so we won't move up any further.

If any players get matched with picks after ours, which is likely, we'll move down the order a few spots.

Clubs will rate players differently. Reported that Roos offered their F1 from pick 8. So clearly rated Whitlock as a top 10 pick.
Would Essendon have preferred north’s future first or Melbourne’s, Kako points and a handful of late picks? I’d be inclined to take north’s, wouldn’t have been too hard to get points & late picks elsewhere

It was a good handful of picks: 28, 40, 46, 54 and 65.

Ultimately it meant that after matching they ended up with 3 2nd round picks in a deep draft as well as Melbourne's F1.

They're getting slammed for the trade but they've still done pretty well.
