Review 2024 National Draft Thread Part Deux - Welcome FOS, M.Whitlock, L.Urquhart & River Stevens

I was relieved when Richmond used their original pick 11 thinking that North wouldn't trade its F1. I was absolutely certain we would have it for next year when we neared the end of R1, but Brady decided that he had to prove that was capable of stuffing up the unstuffable. WTF is the club's thinking here? If we wait until early tomorrow night we get a player we want for our F2 instead of using a likely top 3 pick. Our seller's remorse is going to be very painful next year when we realise what we have missed out on. We are a joke when it comes to getting value out of trades and the other clubs know they can play us like a fiddle. No wonder we have been cellar dwellers for longer than I care to remember.

Theres a bunch of worlds where we just traded pick 1/2/3 for 27 and a future second. That is such a bad trade I genuinely can't believe what I just saw. Could easily be sitting second last again late into next season with no first rounder, we are probably favourites to be with how the last 5+ years have gone. ****ing terrible terrible terrible trade

It’s about managing risk.

What’s clear and you forget sometimes is that we have a group of men who in some instances have spent most of their lives as professional footballers. Rather than in business etc.

Tonight is a good example of it.

You do that trade when your risk scenario is a 1% chance. Not a 50/50.

There is no margin for error and to boot, Matt is going to have the microscope on him for the first few years of his career by the media through no fault of his own.

Nothing like Rory Lobb but easily the most versatile big man in the draft, he could release Chom up forward or play up forward himself and rucks better than Jack.
Not rapt that it cost us a F1 but at least we got an F2 back...this club better get it's act together and finish with 10-11 wins to make that F1 teens pick because we've just handed the Tigers a possible top 5 pick.
Slay!

This trade will only break even if our F1 is around the 10-12 mark, Richmond’s F2 is around 20 and Whitlock becomes a very good player….otherwise this will be very hard to top for worst trade ever in pro sport.
No where near. Regardless of next yrs picks if Whitlock works out we are fine.

Check out Deshaun Watson for worst pro sports trade

Maybe the thinking is with so many academy picks next year and the price for them being higher that two 2nd rounders might get us back into the first round.

Even if this is the case it’s still a shite deal.
Unless the big fella turns out to be a gun Lets give him a chance to prove or the knockers wrong.

I don't really mind it, and I am not exactly Rawling's #1 fan. Richmond's F2 is going to be the first pick in the second round next year. I wouldn't worry too much about the number of the pick, I think he is a pretty good prospect.

I wouldn't be surprised if we trade one of the F2s tomorrow and look at another player.

That F2 is pick 28 this year.

Pick 2-5 for pick 19 in 2025 and 27 in 2024.

Does it seem bad yet?

What is Rawlings thinking?
You're being small minded.

If we finish 6th last next year then it'll be pick 10-12.
We rated Whitlock as a top 12 pick, this year.

Then, we are getting the first pick in the 2nd round. And we are getting Whitlocks a year early to develop.

It's not hard to see a plan, there.

The problem here is that the margin for error is zero.

Zero.

Anything less than a Hawthorn style year is a ****ing disaster that will set us back.
Its wild. But it can't be properly evaluated until we see how next year's draft pans out, how well Whitlock develops, and how well Richmond and ourselves perform.

If we finish as low as 10th, Richmond 17-18th, and there are 4 F/S and academy kids before our pick, it will make sense.

Think we just took the worst trade in history title off Freo. Brady should be sacked
Did he manage to lock the entire North recruitment team including Viney out of the room to make it happen.

I can understand an individual error. But a pre-mediated strategy by a bunch of paid professionals, holy feck!

Liam stocker esque manoeuvre here

Did everyone see how many people were in that room wearing the beautiful royal blue polos?

Yet so many people think Brady did this on his own? It's just weird.
100% Clarko. Same with Daniel

That is a really big IF.

As evident by your other supporters here.

After spending some time with you blokes in the last few weeks.

It actually bothers me what you just did.

What the **** is wrong with Rawlings and co?

Its wild. But it can't be properly evaluated until we see how next year's draft pans out, how well Whitlock develops, and how well we perform.

If we finish as low as 10th and there are 4F/S and academy kids before then, it makes sense.
This is a type of thinking employed by astrologers.

27 & 19 for hopefully 10 plus isn’t horrendous - especially if Whitlock is good.
Hopefully 10+

What? How on earth do you think we’re coming 9th?

We’d need to win the same amount of games as we have in the past 4 seasons to come 9th.

Likely gross negligence in terms of unders.

They either pull something out of nothing next year or every North supporter has the right to be absolutely furious with what we’ve just done.

This is no slight on the player we took.
