Ok so lets look at it another way.

Reports today that the club had MW ranked in our top 10. We need high end KPP's so that makes sense if true.

Lets say a few weeks ago we offered Richmond our F1 for their pick 11 and they agreed. We take FOS with pick 2 and MW with 11 and everyone goes "ya we got our gun big man and a gun mid" and we absolute don't care about the future first because everyone is happy and it's a compromised draft next year, yadda, yadda..

Fast forward to today and the result is this; We took FOS with pick 2, MW with pick 27 (17 picks after our rating board) and we potentially got THE BEST SECOND ROUND PICK OF THE 2025 DRAFT thrown in as ****ing steak knives!
Cue the sudden outrage over our future first next year.. WTF?!

So...

Pick 2 (FOS) + F1 for RFC pick 11 (Whitlock) = good drafting.

Pick 2 (FOS) + F1 for RFC pick 27 (Whitlock) + 2025 pick 19 = worst drafting of all time....

Am I in ****ing bizarro land???..
‘Reports’… aka the club in damage control. Amazing how gullible people are when it comes to blind loyalty.

Shermanator do you watch the North Korean state media and take is as an accurate portrayal of things?

Is it worth f2(rich) + our f2 for port 33 or saints 32 + thier f2 to get the other twin?
Could live with this considering what we traded for Mitlock

Well said - agree entirely. Just need to add something to address the Caleb Daniel outrage and your job is done

both are bad imo

there hasn't been one time we have traded future picks that imo has been more in our favour

The future pick hasn’t even got a number to it - let alone a name.

We wait another year to get a tall and that pushes the players development back a year and we know big men take time to develop.

And if we got shanahan you’d of been having a circle jerk

Am I right we no have two F2s and two F3s? If so I like the idea from the Adelaide poster above keep the two F2s and an F3 might be able to trade that to a club with a top 10 pick that wants to trade out for points for an academy player then see if we can use the extra F3 to upgrade what was 62 coming into this draft as high as possible ~40ish.

Their desired big man 😆 at pick 27…
Yes, I’m sure he was their first preference. Nothing to see here. No one has ridiculously overpaid. Their is an entire AFL world laughing at our club but it’s all misplaced and the past five years of shit decisions by Brady was all just leading up to this masterstroke to turn things around..

And the CCJ trade was a great one as well, wasn’t it?

Everyone on here is judging him on 5 minutes of YouTube highlights and screenshot of his stats from Rookie Me Central. Not even our esteemed draft watchers, whose opinions I value, will have watched Matt anywhere near as much as our recruiters have.

I don't think many are passing judgement on the pick itself to be fair. Apart from a small handful most are wishing Mattlock nothing but the best and hope he becomes a great player for us. I think he will be and I'm glad we got him.

That is an entirely separate issue from how we acquired him and it's important not to conflate the two.

As a result of our trade we have most likely given Richmond the whip hand for next years draft as well as they will now probably hold two of the top 5 picks, this may have unintended ramifications for next years trade period (not to mention the draft obviously) as we saw this year some clubs doing crazy deals to acquire first round picks. Richmond may trade it down for another haul and get a few more talls. Or maybe they use our pick to trade for let's say, a key forward in their prime? Either way Jon Ralph must be absolutely creaming himself right now because after these two drafts they will be in a perfect spot for their rebuild.

I know the whole blah blah we shouldn't worry about other teams, but the reality is we are in a competition and while you can deal in good faith you don't generally set out to actively help your competitors. No issue with our bold drafting strategy but you simply must extract maximum value for trading these kind of picks because we can't afford for it to blow up in our face.

We still have tonight so let's see what happens before judging the draft fully but in isolation it's not even a debate about whether we got adequate value for our f1 and those jumping through hoops with their creative accounting in order to justify it are simply coping.

Sensible reasoning on Bigfooty does feel like bizarro land. Great analysis.

Having Andrew Swallow in the wings to hand out our second round 1 draft pick their jersey made it pretty obvious we were always trading our first.

Where it was going and getting something back was the only surprise.

Pretty comfortable with it now considering it will most likely be the first pick of night 2 next year. Plus having two second rounders in a year where teams would want points makes it pretty likely we can trade up (unless we trade one of those again into this year)

Brothers can either go one of two ways, these 100% look like the two which will be better playing and training together.
give 'em the body by Darling training course.
Of course, I but our young midfield is loaded with potential and if we managed to get Jack or Mraz then we all of the sudden have loaded our potential kps. Small fwd would be nice but that we might be lucky and address next yr

I think he'd suit the number 2 more personally....quick, elusive, hard edged wingman in number 2 just feels right.....although he's not a left-footer

Although he seems to like going to his left and handballing on his left. Threw me a bit watching his highlights as I was then expecting him to kick on his left.

All will be forgotten when we are flogging you at the G next year. until then enjoy the the trade period.

Small forwards are defiantly a need, mainly just to add pressure to start with, if we can stop that run off HB, get repeat entries, it'll go. a long way to winning games.

two that may surprise is Konstanty and Paine
