I wonder if this is a ploy by Austin to force Adelaide into trading up for #2 thus almost certainly leaving FOS available at #3.
Either way, I'm certain we'll be selecting one of FOS or Draper.

I doubt it would be that calculated.
We were doing SA interviews last week (were also interviewing Charlie West at a minimum).

Also, we only have the 3rd pick, so need to have 3 preferences at the top of the order.

So according to the Hun:
Richmond 1 - Lalor
Roos - Tauru (noone interested in sliding up)
Blues- FOS, Draper or Smith (in that order)
Crows - Draper or Langford
Dees - Langford, Smith or Tauru
Richmond 6 - Smith or Smillie
St Kilda 7 - Smith, Smillie or Tauru
Did it even mention us with Jagga?

Sounds to me it’s fos or Draper

If the talk is true and North are hot on Tauru there is some massive denial going on in the heads of North supporters. They are adamant they won't take him at 2.

I tend to believe they will take him. Not looking as much of a reach as it once did and fills a need. Rumors this close to the draft are usually accurate.

What concerns me greatly about FOS is the thought that in 4 years time we'll potentially be discussing yet another injury setback and discussing his return from injury the following season with predictions his average possession count will skyrocket from single figures to the mid-teens.

If we had multiple picks like Richmond, I would be all in on FOS because his upside is ridiculous. But we only have one shot and I think a safer choice is the right path for us to go down. Smith, to me at least, seems like that choice. Whilst there's no guarantees in this world, he seems most likely to be a "sure thing".
Totally agree. Just watched his interview and he sounds too laid back to me, whereas Jagga, on the other hand, sounds so much more mature. I feel Jagga is the ultimate professional and is bust proof. Not saying Fos won’t make it, but with two years worth of first round picks I feel much safer picking Jagga.

Per Herald Sun's Chris Cavanagh; 'While the feeling is their preference is Finn O'Sullivan, Carlton has expressed significant interest in South Australian Sid Draper and met again with him last Friday (8th of Nov).'

We met with a number of SA prospects last Friday, as per the Charlie West connection article. It would make sense that we met with Draper. Even if O’Sullivan is our preferred, there is no guarantee how the first two picks pan out. I still maintain that back issues aside, Draper is my preferred player at the top end of the draft. Remains in the poll for me. My experience with a Pars Defect has me cautious, but if due diligence is done and it does not meet the connotations of “chronic” as thrown out by SA media, I would back his selection.

Suggest there would be at least half a dozen players we would touch bases with on that Friday. There are many combination possibilities from our second pick on, depending on the bid for Ben Campo and indeed when and if there is a bid for Lucas. We either pick at ~38 for our likely young KPD or we trade it out for a future pick and match Ben with our late pick options before trading back in to the draft for a KPD option. There are half a dozen apparently decent prospects from around pick 38, to the end of the draft, so we are likely to have scouted seriously, O’Farrell, Dennis, Mraz, West(SA), Nicholls (SA) and possibly a couple more. Other SA boys may interest us for the rookie draft, there are three small/medium forwards who could fall mid draft to rookie range for example.

Austin and company are all over this draft and will have many player options sorted, as well as having pre arranged deals to fail safe the chance of attaining our required players.

Not enjoying some of the subjective debate over our first pick, but I am very confident whoever we pick will be an integral part of our success in years to come. I am equally concerned that we get a quality KPD prospect from the draft. Complementary and next generation key defender is the absolute biggest hole on our list and Austin has repeatedly stated the desire to draft that player.

If he had a series of soft tissue problems I’d definitely agree.

He had a minor hip problem that cost him a couple of games but his major missed time this year were finger and hand injuries, caused by contact and with no increased risk of recurring.

Got this second hand but a contact spoke with leading recruiter over weekend. Asked about who Carlton might select and thoughts.

Said Blues are hopeful of getting FOS but could well be gone by 3. If not for injury would be No.1 pick

Comment was he has the mental qualities to be a Star. Calm, mature and a strong work ethic and desire to succeed and get better. Smart kid. All the things that makes a great player

Thanks Soap. Your intel is always appreciated.

Well, Draper is not going 1 or 2. We could effectively rule out Jagga at this point because if Draper is there, we will most likely take him.
That's assuming the intel is correct. The Draper preference seems to be drawn from the fact we flew there to interview him last week. You'd expect us to be doing that anyway. Plus, we interviewed other SA prospects at the same time too.

Not saying it's wrong. I just wouldn't go as far as ruling anyone out.

I think our interest in Draper was obvious the other week when that user posted the Instagram follow screenshot. It all adds up now.
Agree , obviously Finn O’Sullivan and Ashcroft are clearly the two stand outs form this cohort. The club would prefer Finn, apart from the Walsh and O’ Sullivan connections to the club, he’s a Victorian boy , a dynamic and powerful goal kicking midfielder and would be a brilliant addition.
However should he be off the board, it may well be the South Australian boy Sid Draper.

Interviewing Draper shouldn't be a surprise. He's clearly in the discussion for pick 3, and it would be negligent of us not to interview him, even if he isn't currently in our top 3. You'd think we will have done a serious amount of work on at least 5-6 players.
