A couple of problems I see with Jagga Smith…

He’s a Collingwood supporter and his old man was on Collingwoods list when they won the flag in 90…

He played for Richmond’s VFL team…

He’s from Scotch College!

I can overlook all those but there is one more thing I wasn’t aware of until now and that’s he finished year 12 a year ago and has been a full time footballer this year and had a personal trainer too etc. so just wondering how much of m advantage he had over other juniors in the draft? Obviously he will have similar luxuries once he’s on an AFL list - but could others like FOS, Draper and Langford do more once they don’t have school commitments etc?

Could be quite the sight….Jaggas not big framed in any way so could be made to look like a real jockey next to Lance from the well fed paddock

Maybe big Lance can share some dietary advice with young Jagga. Something along the lines of, now don't take any notice

of what the club says about what you should need. Believe me, I have found that mouth-watering hamburgers and plenty

of KFC keep me in ripping nick.

Pretty sure Jagga started university this year so while he was facing different challenges to the boys competing Year 12, it was a long way from being a full time footballer

So your knock on him is that is too much of a professional?

You do understand that he was completing his first year of his post high school course as well? It might have given him a bit more flexibility than some but surely it's a good thing that he is prepared to go above and beyond to better his football.

Club dietician told Skinny Lappin and Kade Simpson one day to do the opposite of what Lance does. They both took it literary and never ate.

Unless he's been training full time with an AFL club I don't think it's that much of an advantage. Just shows how professional he is. I'm sure his dad has had a lot of input into his career.

The facts are Smith is the best under 18's player this year. We can't go wrong picking him.

All it really tells us is that he's disciplined and self motivated

historically, we've bombed long after pissing around with the ball between the HB to HF lines... too slow - by the time it's bombed in, the defence is set up (probably even yawning) and Harry or Charlie are double or triple teamed....

Getting the ball into them quickly, ideally with non bombs (of course), before the defence can get set is the point of difference Draper brings....

Can see the appeal in Smith but, to me, he's more of the same as Walsh and/or Cerra.
Sounds like Langford would be your pick then. His quick left foot kick on is what you want.

How lucky are we that we get to add yet another (fingers crossed) A-grader into our mix?

It's all rainbows and unicorns...

Does it? I read an article this morning and thought the rule was matching the bid - 20%?

Pick 3: 2234 * 0.8 = 1787.2
Pick 7: 1644 * 0.8 =1315.2

They'd have to pay up an extra 472 points of capital. It would be the smart thing to do to have them pay up.
Brisbane has picks 27, 34, 42, 43, 49, 58 which total 3,800 points. This gives them ample points to cover a Levi bid at #3 and Marshall with a later bid - using picks 27, 34, 42 and 43 (2,900 points).

Leaves them with picks 49 and 58 to pick up a further two players.

An extra 472 points plus #49 (504 points) could help them get a pick in the 20’s, so you’re right it would make sense for clubs to bid on Levi (and Marshall) earlier rather than later.

Thanks to ODN for putting up the “welcome to” threads. At least they are in place for after Big Footy crashes in the next two nights 😅

I won't be able to open them or complete them if that happens.

Don't know why but have a feeling there's been a bit of cat and mouse, wouldn't be surprised to see Adelaide move up to our pick 3 for a little something our way. Most likely way off just getting that feeling.

Plenty of footballers in Jagga's position have squandered the year off, it says a lot about his character that he went to those lengths. For instance, Cripps finished last in the 2km trial at the combine, after a year on the uni diet. Even though that worked out well for us, some clubs put a line through him after that, and there's others who have tumbled down the draft order after graduating early. It's highly probable that his training regime did give him an on-field advantage over his peers, however, I would contend that his high self-discipline is an advantage he will enjoy over most of his peers for the duration of his career. In some respects, you could make the claim that he was at a disadvantage by playing with a physically less developed body. I look forward to seeing what he can do when he adds a few more kg's of muscle to his frame, guys like FOS, Draper and Langford are more ready to go in that regard.

Cerra is perhaps a better kick but Jagga is a much, much better overall player.

They could....but they could also struggle to adjust to a professional environment, struggle to adhere to recovery programs, struggle to handle the pressure of increased media scrutiny...

With Smith - he's coming in having already shown he can self-manage, that he can stick to a program, and that he was able to do that even without a professional organisation around him. That discipline and drive is a wonderful trait.
