Anyone concerned about Travaglia's terrible 20m sprint time at the combine. 3.186 is much worse than I thought it would be. He seems to carry speed around the ground okay, but I don't know, its put me off him a bit.
Not really for me, he's more of a strider than a sprinter. Always on the move and ready to repeat sprint up and down the ground with his long strides. His 2km time trial is more indicative of his strengths imo.

He's also built like a bean pole so I can't imagine his speed from a stationary position would be too great at this stage.

Can't remember what Will Day and Jack Crisp tested at the combines on the 20m and 2km but those are the players I see in him. Crisp a bit neater with his disposal but has also been in the system for far far longer to tefine that.

Will Day was sub 3 sec. https://central.rookieme.com/afl/player/will-day/

Couldn't find anything for Crisp, but that's a pretty difference between Trav and Day.

Indeed it is. Thanks for finding that

To me both look very similar athletically, surprised their would be such a difference.

Maybe just a bad day for Travaglia (although I am pretty sure they get a couple of cracks at each test, and only the best time is recorded). It is pretty hard to find historic combine results for players who didn't make the top ten in each test. But here is a pretty nice resource that the crows board maintains.

It puts him in the company of Matt Crouch, Ben Keays, and Harry Schoenberg....

I really can't imagine that he can't go any quicker than that.

Did his shoes have grip on the day??? Matt Crouch... far out thats bad company. Bizarre given the run and dash thats synonymous with his game

Listened to a recent interview where he quoted his speed as his greatest strength…

Good get. That’s really interesting.

When travaglia receives the ball and is looking to accelerate he can look like he’s running on the spot a little bit, trying to pickup speed. He does lack acceleration.

It does change my opinion a little about him. I think he will be an excellent half back but it does place a question mark around how he would go as a midfielder. He won’t burst from stoppage that’s for sure.

I don’t think Carlton needs another half back.

Pretty poor ball drop and kicking action tbh.

Yeah, it’s not ideal. Rucks and key defenders are the only positions I’ll allow some leeway with kicking styles. It does seem effective though and he’s not necessarily that slow getting the ball to boot.

The main things he has going for him which are critical as a key defender:
  • good read of the ball in flight
  • uses his body well in a marking contest
  • sticky hands that take one grab marks
  • courage to attack the footy in the air in traffic
  • confident to mark the ball where possible instead of simply spoiling it
  • recovers quickly from the marking contest to gather the ground ball

His Rookie Me profile suggests he has great leadership skills and is a vocal organiser in defence too which is essential in a modern AFL defender.

I’d be willing to overlook a slightly ungainly kicking style if it’s mostly effective.

Hopefully the Bolton trade falls through, see if we can nab 9 or 11

I think we'd better off if it does go through. Gives Richmond more 1st round picks, increasing the likelihood they trade 1.

I think freo takes those 2 picks to the draft if they keep them. Doubt it falls through though. In everyone's interests to get it done.

If it falls through, Freo will want to stockpile Futures to have a crack at Chad Warner.

If it gets done, Richmond more likely to be open to trading 14 that they should get from West Coast (via Hawthorn).

I like our F1 + F2 for 14 +43. They have so many picks in the 40s they might be happy to help us out with campo bid.

We trade 33 (richmond have no need for it) for someone else's F2.

I reckon Freo would be asking for alot more for 11 then Richmond would for 14.
