Training 2024 Pre-Season

Get a feeling we might come down to earth a little after the two practice matches, though I don't believe it will have much bearing on the proper season. Butt be prepared to have wild expectations tempered somewhat.

My personal preference for leadership group would be

Wilkie Captain
Steele
Sinclair
Windhager
Stocker
I’m with you on Stocker, he’s been terrific over preseason, not sure it best suits him with his mental health issue..see Membrey’s entry into the leadership was short lived.

The likes of Stocker and Owens to a lesser extent are 12 months away imo. Both have come off their first full season of playing AFL footy, so there’s two parts to it. Letting them settle and further develop their game, and needing to see a bigger body of work before promotion.
I’m bullish on both, but one swallow doesn’t make a spring

Was also hailed as an elite power forward you could build a list around when he was drafted so suggest he keep focusing on fulfilling that potential before having leadership group aspirations.
He's the first player to drop his head when things go wrong so the last player I'd want in a leadership group

Not sure if serious or sarcastic but I couldnt disagree more, I'd rather read a thread with preseason trackside reports than pages and pages of trolling bickering and irrelevant bullshit about Taylor *ung swift, coffee, or whatever non footy topic inspired the peanut gallery in any given week. Don't think I'm tye only one either

Definitely not serious as I’m not a serious person when it comes to footy, life to short for that, and I’ll admit a fair bit of sarcasm.

And me thinks you protest too much about not being a Swiftie. It’s ok to love Tay Tay…even in the closet.

Members had been in the leadership group for five years , you think that's short lived

We all know our midfield needs to change for us to be any kind of threat and we all know Steele and Crouch perform so Ross will be lucky to be in the 22 - however he would be a excellent sub / he is a good player but he isn't the dynamic player that we need to fix our one paced midfield.

Anyway by the looks Henry could be the spark that improves our midfield with Owens.

Feel like they will be looking for more pace than Seb. Not sure Saints can go with Clark, Steele, Crouch and Seb in the same team given they identified pace at the end of last year as one of their weaknesses. At least one of those misses and it is probably Seb.

Don't hold your breath.

No need to snipe pal…I was simply referring to the mental health of the 2 players!
Some of you are highly sensitive..
Wow , who doesn't like being corrected when they are wrong , it looks like you're the sensitive one Pal

Not with you on Van Es.

Absolutely think he’ll make it, assuming his body doesn’t hold him back. Happily mixed it up with much older blokes at Sandy, and didn’t take a single backward step.
We've got a fair bit riding on this kid. Gut feels that Joff's mate will be gone after this year so let's hope he comes on quickly once he's back on the park.

Asked Chat GPT to do a preview for the season so here it is

Strengths:

  1. Midfield Depth: St Kilda boasts a strong midfield unit led by Jack Steele, who is one of the league's premier midfielders. With players like Brad Crouch, Zak Jones, and Seb Ross providing support, the Saints have depth and talent in the engine room.
  2. Forward Line Potential: The Saints have promising forwards such as Max King and Tim Membrey, who have shown the ability to impact games and provide a focal point in attack. With continued development, the Saints' forward line has the potential to be potent.
  3. Defensive Structure: St Kilda's defensive structure, anchored by players like Dougal Howard and Callum Wilkie, has shown resilience at times. They have the ability to restrict opposition scoring and generate turnovers, providing a solid foundation for the team.
  4. Coaching Stability: Under coach Ross Lyon, the Saints have shown signs of improvement and competitiveness. Lyon's coaching style emphasizes accountability, discipline, and team-first ethos, which has resonated well with the players.
Weaknesses:

  1. Consistency: St Kilda has struggled with consistency in recent seasons, often following strong performances with disappointing losses. Addressing consistency issues will be crucial for the Saints to become a more competitive side.
  2. Defensive Lapses: While the Saints' defensive structure is solid at times, they have been prone to lapses in concentration and defensive breakdowns, leading to conceding easy goals. Tightening up defensively will be a focus area for improvement.
  3. Scoring Efficiency: Despite having talented forwards, St Kilda has sometimes struggled with scoring efficiency and conversion inside forward 50. Improving their ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities will be essential for winning close games.
Key Players:

  1. Jack Steele (Midfielder): Steele is the heartbeat of the St Kilda midfield, known for his relentless work rate, tackling pressure, and ability to win contested possessions. He provides leadership and sets the standard for the team.
  2. Max King (Forward): As a young key forward, Max King represents the future of St Kilda's forward line. Blessed with athleticism and marking ability, he has shown glimpses of his potential and will be pivotal in the Saints' scoring structure.
  3. Brad Crouch (Midfielder): Crouch, a recruit from Adelaide, adds experience and ball-winning ability to St Kilda's midfield. His presence strengthens the midfield rotation and provides valuable support to Jack Steele.
Outlook:

St Kilda has shown potential but needs to address consistency and tighten up defensively to compete against the AFL's top sides. With a talented core of players and the guidance of coach Ross Lyon, the Saints have the foundation to push for finals contention. Continued development of young talent, particularly in the forward line, will be crucial for their success.
I swear that‘s what some media outlets have done. Can you get it to do a train8ng report?

So a poster is 'cooked' for pointing out and correcting false information?
Nah it's more the continued going at other posters and instigating arguments for the sake of it tbh, thought that's been pretty obvious over the journey :)

Don't know who you are referring to, I have no 'mate' only players who in my opinion are the best for the team.
If someone is better, I have zero issue them being dropped or leaving. I support the team not players.
On another issue, I think we should go radical in the leadership group next season with some fresh faces.
Here are my suggestions:

Arie Shoenmaker
Taryn Thomas ( when we trade two firsts for him)
and Spanian as special leadership consultant.

This would be real leadership (that Tony Soprano would approve of).

Pointing out that Membrey's time in the leadership group was not short lived - in fact, he was the longest continuing member of the group last year since Seb was removed in 2022 - is hardly instigating an argument. It was just correcting facts, which seems especially important when the original post was trying to infer things about the impact of leadership on a players mental health.
