Training 2024 Pre-Season

Get a feeling we might come down to earth a little after the two practice matches, though I don't believe it will have much bearing on the proper season. Butt be prepared to have wild expectations tempered somewhat.
Would like to know your rationale behind this, because I disagree and I’m very scarcely wrong 🤔

My personal preference for leadership group would be

Wilkie Captain
Steele
Sinclair
Windhager
Stocker

Imagine what they would have said about Rooey's body langauage... Max's shows his frustration not always ideal, but lets not pretend that injuries have really been the only impediment on his career. Everytime he plays he is these days usualyl kicking min 2 goals a game without even dominating.
We all know Max’s potential…it’s time for him to shine!
I’ve predicted he kicks 74 goals this year…hope I’m close!!

I think the body language thing with Max is him just being Max.

It's not a great look when you are part of a team and RTB and Co have probably spoken to him about it.

I don't think it has much impact on his actual performance, besides maybe giving his opponent some mild encouragement.

Pointing out that Membrey's time in the leadership group was not short lived - in fact, he was the longest continuing member of the group last year since Seb was removed in 2022 - is hardly instigating an argument. It was just correcting facts, which seems especially important when the original post was trying to infer things about the impact of leadership on a players mental health.
pretty sure we run on Trump-style truth here

Don't know who you are referring to, I have no 'mate' only players who in my opinion are the best for the team.
If someone is better, I have zero issue them being dropped or leaving. I support the team not players.
On another issue, I think we should go radical in the leadership group next season with some fresh faces.
Here are my suggestions:

Arie Shoenmaker
Taryn Thomas ( when we trade two firsts for him)
and Spanian as special leadership consultant.

This would be real leadership (that Tony Soprano would approve of).

Should be able to pick up Joel Smith pretty cheap. Imagine the Mad Monday he and Arie could organise!

I've had my ticket punched on your train saintmike65.

If he doesn't kick a bag this year.....it won't be too far away IMO.

With the resident full back Gorilla's having either retired or getting close......who's going to stop him.

The only issue many on here have(especially me)...... with Big Maxy is his durability.

Fingers crossed.

Actaully.....everything crossed....!!!!!!!

I disagree you can see in games he gets down on himself and as a result lacks confidence at times. The mental side of the game is so important. If you 120% dont believe in yourself then gremlins will creep in as has been the case with Max and Higgins goal kicking over time.

to be fair, most times max speaks, he openly acknowledges he’s still a work in progress and far from a final product. Think we can be a bit harsh and circumspect with these kids at times. Maxy oozes potential at 23 years old, 140 goals from basically 4 seasons of footy. He’ll work on the complete package like most of the cohort at his age.

Leadership Group, schmeadership group. Sounds like the entire team is far more vocal and instructive, and when people like Mason (perhaps our best off field leader?) don’t make it, it says a lot.

Let’s focus on the real issues, like who would win a punch-on between Barrels and JoffJoff 😎

Yeah, I used to get to a few trainings when the kids were small enough to torture with it and we had such a disappointingly low energy level and lack of talk under Richo. It was like we'd picked a bunch of introverted micro *****. Guys like Mav Weller and Jason Holmes stood out for having some voice in a pack of neurotic withdrawn empaths.

Not with you on Van Es.

Absolutely think he’ll make it, assuming his body doesn’t hold him back. Happily mixed it up with much older blokes at Sandy, and didn’t take a single backward step.

He reminds me of Jake Carlisle.

Lyon has never taken preseason games too seriously. Doubt he changes that.

All he cares about is the fitness of the players and whether the gameplan and structures hold up

And if it doesn’t. He will be…

Thrilled.

Here’s my whinge…

I absolute HATE those posts from rando supporters from other clubs who come on here with their “How so and so going? What’s his role likely to be this year? Does he get lots of the ball?!” posts…

Piss off with your SuperCoach bullshit you nuffy pricks.

Not sure I agree - they often create opportunities for some quite funny responses

****ing hate it too mate, does my head in 😂

I don’t care if we lose both

It’s bloody practice matches
No injuries is what matters
In 2009 I chucked a sickie and watched us get absolutely trounced by Port in SA in a practice match with some fat bastard yelling at me “where’s the gtrain now”
My reply was with your Mrs while you’re here being a dick
We made a GF that year

Just tell them to get on Zaine Cordy and that Matty Allison is a smoky.

As we are on the eve of moving from pre pre-season into the highly regarded Match-Sim part of pre-season...

This board has been absolutely fantastic from the minute the players returned.

The regular training reports and overall generally solid banter has been of the highest standard.

Well done everyone and remember.. Match Sim form, is the best form.
