Training 2024 Pre-Season

Draft Central - "Allison is one of the quintessential high-upside talents available in this year's draft and is one who could well thrive in an elite environment. His most obvious improvement areas are ones which can be easily developed over a few preseasons and alongside high-level established talent, so perhaps clubs with the capacity to take on those prospective kind of players will look at Allison closely."

Then copped two years of Covid football then effectively another season out with foot injury.

May not make it but contract extension understandable in the circumstances.

I hold hope for Moose at least he loves a contest and has a red hot crack, but I believe if Mitch Edwards (WA ruckman) had of been available at #33 when we took Hastie we would have taken him. Unfortunately Geelong took him the pick earlier - but lets hope Hastie become the next Sammy Gilbert.
Watched Moose closely at training probably 6 times this year - tries his heart out and is really hard on himself when he stuffs up. But Marshall and Campbell absolutely school him in the ruck and around the ground.

He seemed to be working closely with BJ on development but at one training right in front of me he just made a basic error and BJ just put his head in his hands - like Im getting nowhere.

I understand big guys take longer to develop but, barring an injury crisis, I would be very surprised if he plays at AFL level.

100%

Some on here think because he can run that he can play , Not true and anyone that compares him to mason wood needs to go to spec savers , You will not see Allison standing in the hole in defence getting pole axed like Mason

Mason was a bit slow to find his mojo too.

I would like to refute this as per a conservation I heard at Wednesdays training .... that a major figure down at the Club was part of .... and that I was in earshot of ..... which went along the lines of ......

We were wanting a ruckman but due to the ones we wanted were already gone ..... we picked Collard with that 2nd pick
Who was the major figure?

Two years was silly. No one was going ro take him off us.

Need to target a strong ruck option with a trade this season.

If Marshall goes down we are pretty cooked

Has looked ok from what I have seen.

Nobody said because he can run he can play, that's just the usual Risky nonsense.

Personally he doesn't show enough for seniors but for people who haven't seen him for 12 months to outright dismiss him is sheer ignorance and mighty arrogant.

Those low numbers at VFL level are pretty damning though. The contract extension was bewildering. He should count himself extremely lucky. Bachelor's reviews of him, though positive, also highlight how far away he is from taking the next step. I'm sure he's improved, but his one football highlight is taking a strong mark in a training drill a year ago. It's a bit depressing really.

Mason was always on the cusp of being a good player though... that's why he was frustrating for North fans. He'd have good games for and then get injured, or inconsistency would bite him, but he'd always remind you that he could play. Allison unfortunately hasn't done that. I just read #pebblesofsand's comment, which puts the contract extension into a better context, but still... he's been pretty disappointing...even for a speculative - albeit still reasonably high - pick.

Allison has a very good football pedigree.

It’ll be a shock if he can make it realistically. He’s been poor at vfl level, including 5 disposal games where you looks below the level. I think people are impressed he’s still doing what he can though.
Agree ,will be a shock to most.
Every game I watched him play unfortunately as you mentioned were below the level.
Think 2024 will be his last in Sandy colours.
Can't say RWB because he hasn't worn one

We will have to move on 6 to 7 players end of the year. We cut Peris and he at least played AFL ahead of a few. So cannot see just through list attrition that sadly
Alison
Heath
are not delisted.

Paton
on the slope
Potential retirement of
Campbell
Jones
Ross
Wood

The rest of the list are just either too young emerging or break glass in case of emergency.

Cordy, Stocker, Bonnar spring to mind.

Caminiti, Hayes, Membrey, Sharman are all fighting for one or max two spots same with midfield/fwd/def spots Clark Ross Jones Wilson Dow Windy and Henry and a few more fighting for 2- 3 spots.

In reality, there are some damn good footballers going to miss a spot and going to have to play their arses off at Sandy to get a gig.

Pre season this year is going to get interesting and the why not us slogan can be changed to I need to make it mine.

NFL players said that a game during the year was easier and less intense than the competition during pre season training.

Both my grand parents played big league footy, 1 uncle played for essendon and another played VFL for Traralgon....

I couldn't kick a kids sherrin past 30 metres....

Pedigree means stuff all...

It was not one strong mark. He was continually doing it over preseason.

I don't want this to become a myth. In saying that I just don't know where he fits in.
If he get into the seniors because of injury or something, he has to absolutely excel.

I doubt it though.

Hello all,
My 9YO wants to go to the saints school holidays program. Has anyone had any experience with these things? Are they any good? Do they get any time with actual Saints players?
We’d be flying up from Tassie for it, so it’s a bit of a commitment.
(Sorry this isn’t exactly on topic, but hopefully he’ll be doing a preseason in 2034)
