Still hoping Sharp levels up to be that other wing. He was picked as a project player and if he finally arrives, he would be an absolute weapon.
Run his ass off on Friday and got the ball a bit but butchered it quite a bit as well unfortunately.

I'm not disagreeing with Fages that their wings beat us convincingly but J. Daicos , Sidebottom and Crisp are all guns bordering on elite and would be great players wherever you played them. So you can't really expect to beat them one on one unless you have similar players of that calibre in the role.

The reason we lost is ( amongst the reason he gives ) but substantially is because we pushed someone back at the end of the first and second quarters and coughed up 3 goals with 2 after the siren where we just butchered it and their wings had freebie goes . Obviously he would never say that.

I don't see our wings as getting to the Pies standard in the shorter term at least but if we build on our strengths and don't kick it to them we can reverse that result. Fletcher is probably a couple of years at least away from getting to that level if all goes well. Don't see Sharpie as ever getting to that level. Bez is generally good and honest in the role , but just not real class . To me Clug would be a big upgrade on what we've got but I still think he has improvement enough to be more a gun midfielder.

Sure we could do with better wingers but they don't grow on trees.

Ashcroft coming back in changes out setup a fair bit. I'm sure coming off an ACL they won't want to chuck him straight into the guts and he has the tools to be a very handy winger. I see him and Clugg as a more or less straight swap from a mid to wing role.
Bailey is another who can play a wing role quite well and again has most of the tools required but he is such a dangerous HFF you are robbing Peter to pay Paul.

I was actually impressed with his running at one session I was at.
So I don’t think it will affect other areas of his game.
He's displayed talent and the capacity to do the occasional miracle thing in his time at the club , just not often enough to date.

Someone like him coming from nowhere to seriously challenge for a Senior spot is what we need this year.

Anyone know when Round 1 tickets go on sale?
Was looking at heading over to watch a game at Optus for the first time.
Don’t really want to buy plane tickets until I know I can get tickets to the game.
You won't have any problems getting tickets to the Freo game. Even when they had a good year in 2022 the crowd was only 47k at our game. Was able to get seats exactly where I wanted pretty much.

About time fages recognised the biggest weakness of this list. Hopefully he can utilise the width more going forward and develop players to play out wide.
On this, one thing I noticed a few times in the intra-club game last Friday was that pretty much every time Harris Andrews or someone similar took an intercept mark between the arcs, it was followed by an immediate hard move crossfield. And by hard I don't mean those loopy boring plays where you look to go around the defence. These were hard, probing into the defence.

The first kick is the important, and most risky one. It doesn't need to be long, but you want that going forward AND into the corridor. Somewhere between a direct lateral kick and a 45. You pull that off, and the whole field opens up. If someone's running past you can give the handball and the next kick is long and deep inside 50. Otherwise, get back quickly off the mark and then the entire open side becomes usable. We did this quite well on Friday. Will be interested to see how well we are able to do it against AFL opposition.

It's a bit like the MCG in that I don't think there is a bad seat really. I've never sat in the bottom tier but unlike the MCG even the front row is at a bit of an elevation, so you should still have a good view even if you are close to the fence.

I just went with my standard MO tho, up high behind the Lions cheer squad. Pretty nice day for the middle of winter, it was a good game (much better standard than the 2023 game, despite the result), and the Freo fans were pretty good fun really.
