I thought that was a fantastic win, and I don’t think it was at all lucky.

We tried hard to get the match on our terms. It didn’t happen. So what did we do? We knuckled down and beat them on their terms! That’s an amazing achievement for any side to achieve that. It’s absolute testament to what we are building here.

For all the posters who are saying they will never watch it again, never mind… I will watch it enough times to make up for you. And you’re the ones who are missing out!

Go Blues!

How well are we going when the opposition controlled 100% of the game style and we still won?

I feel like we’re Bruce Willis in Unbreakable. We’re looking at ourselves going “holy s&/t, CAN we lose?”

Wait til we win the flag
I think that if we are up at half time in the grand final, Chief might as well just turn off the servers for a day or two. The result would be the same anyway :D

Happy Birthday to me 😂

having Charlie Curnow is the difference in this game! some of those marks and goals to keep us in the game when we needed it were huge. He is a freak! Without him we don’t get anywhere near this game … we played like crap most of that game, midfield got killed all day, we looked a yard off all day and yet we got over the line. The top 7 possession winners on the ground were freo players … yet somehow they kept us in it and Charlie did Charlie things at Charlie moments in that 2nd half!

We were terrible.
Killed around the contest - particularly at centre bounce - and kicking everywhere beyond half back was very poor.
The positive is that we won a game despite all of the above and some other aspects of the game trending against us.
I thought TDK stuck at it and probably shadowed Jackson on the day … but will want to review our centre bounce approach very closely. I think we could make a case for Pittonet and TDK.
Yes Kemp was better but he’s no lock down back.
O Hollands a worry. Worked hard but was towelled up by Jeremy Sharp ffs.
Loved Zac, Cripps and Charlie’s second half. Cotters was involved and important and Weiters was king down back.
Hewett consistent. Carroll was messy. Fog will get a short holiday. Elijah a rest.
Looking forward to getting Walsh back.
We have a very tough six weeks ahead.

Name a side in the history of the game who can 100% of the time wrestle a match to being back on their own terms. It hasn’t happened.

In the absence of capability to do that, what’s the best you can do? Beat the opposition on their own terms.

We will lose games this year. We will win tight ones. What matters is what we learn from them. In the meantime, that was a great victory and a very important one too.

The umpires went deep on Freo, 6 goals from free kicks out of 9.
Umpiring was atrociously favoured to Fremantle throughout the entire game until the last 30 seconds

We would have won by 4+ goals if the umpiring was even close to a modicum of parity.

Charlie and Harry were getting scragged every time the ball went into our forward line.

So the big question...Did the umps kiss us on the you know what...giving Kennedy a free late in the game??
Reckon it will get glossed over as all the anti carlton gang would prefer to complain about a carlton win rather than acknowledge it.

BUT

They toiled hard for over 100 minutes to kick 9 goals, 6 of them from free kicks. The chances of the kicking one from the guts within 40 seconds, as Elvis Costello would say, was less than zero.

  • First time since 95 gone 4-0
  • We didn’t have the right to win that, we had ourselves to blame with crud snapshot accuracy, fumbles and intent at times… but class came through in the end and 5 mins of cool heads. Kudos to not letting them blow it out, that won us the game.
  • Our small forwards bar Owies and Fog need stints in the 2’s. Much rather chuck in JSOS and Doc on one leg atm with my lack of faith with them.
  • Thank goodness Walsh is back next week. And I’d not drop kemp even if we bring Marchbank in… might be able to float a Gov or Kemp forward.
