Alright, that's enough.

The next poster who thinks they should have a crack at an individual or a collective reaction to this game is going to find themselves threadbanned. Terms like 'bleaters' or 'shit posters' will see things escalated further.

Let's discuss our views on the match without getting the knives out, please.

Doesn’t feel like a win.
Oh but it is a win though, against a Dees side that were desperate for revenge after last September as well. Hopefully we're starting to become bit of a bogey side for them.;)

Sure. He does gets caught several times a game. Often because he calls for it when he shouldn't.

Never called him arrogant. I just think that he's such a strong character that when the other boys hear him call for it, it's an automatic give. Frequently without looking first.

Now, I'm not sure if Walsh is unaware of the pressure on him, or he just backs himself to beat the opposition.

I have seen him between the opponent and the ball carrier, calling for the ball. The smart play would be to Shepard. Instead he calls for it and promptly gets tackled.

Whole team could be better at putting on a Shepard/block for teammates, buy ourselves some more time and space, instead of being pressured caught or coughing up unnecessary forced turnovers…

The pleasing aspect of this season is that our best is unequivocally the best in the comp - we’ve got enough talent and a major advantage with our mid dominance and two brilliant forwards to beat any side.

We Just need some luck with injuries and some fine tuning to play at our best more consistently.

No one shepherds anymore at any level of football, I don’t get why but it’s definitely a lost art.

Maybe the penalties for accidents are having an effect on this but Everyone also wants to play the overlap game with numbers running in support and the act of shepherding takes one of your own guys out of that wave.

I don’t know if others have picked it up (and I’ve mentioned this before) but when Cripps gets the ball he now looks a bit more closely where to dish out the hand pass or kick. And he is prepared to sidestep or switch direction to dodge around an oppo to get out in the clear.

He isn’t just trying to bullock his way through - he’s trying to play a bit more mobile and with a bit more agility.

Seeing him without knee strapping is telling too. Looks as mobile as I've seen him.

Still perhaps too much work left to him though. He was absolutely gassed as anyone late in the game, was expecting him to just about fall over at any moment.

Still can't really believe what I was seeing in the last quarter. I'll have to watch the replay today with an analytical lens, but from up on Level 4 it just looked like we completely shut down all run and carry options in the last. Melbourne just went man-to-man all over the park and let us kick to an aerial contest every time and we played into their hands. Not a single switch of play despite Melbourne giving us that option. Saad's ability to create is sorely missed.

We looked seriously gassed and out of ideas/bewildered. The guys had the same look in the rooms at half-time last week after being shell-shocked in the second against the Pies.

For all the things we did right in the first 3 quarters, that last quarter was truly awful. I can only hope the 8 day break is used to freshen the blokes up a bit before an important block of games before the bye.
Only saw the last two minutes, but it was a lot wetter than it looked at the ground. Seems that we struggled to adjust to the conditions. Barely took an uncontested mark in the last quarter.

A truer statement never spoken… at our absolute best no one will go with us … Harry, Charlie and Jack Martin can take the game away from anyone with silver service from our midfield … with weitering in form down back it’s even better.

With an injury list as long as ours has been with so many important players missing footy with no continuity (Walsh has missed four games, weitering two, Cerra a few, gov, Saad, marchy, doc etc … add Motlop and Fogarty … these aren’t bits and pieces players!!) to be 6-3 is a great effort considering we’ve played last years grand finalists and 4 of the top 8 sides and 3 of these are top 4 with the top side to come next week. Our biggest losing margin so far has been 2 goals in a game in my opinion we should have won. Adelaide we should have won.. the only game I feel we should have lost is Collingwood and even then somehow we only lost by a kick.

Big test next week but if we can knock the swans off at the SCG and turn 7-3 off the back of our injury list in the first 10 games of the year that would be a phenomenal effort and we’d rightly be considered premiership favourites in my view

Funny you say that Teaguey.

There was an instance last night where Cripps and Ollie (I think) were running towards the ball along with one other Melb player and no one else around - I yelled out shepherd!! to Crippa who was in best position to do so.

Supporters looked at me funny, probably thought I spotted a sheep herder in the crowd. 😀

I agree that with most of what you say, but there are times when you have a teammate under pressure or about to be caught that it’s certainly needed, a simple block is beneficial to the team…
Sides/players throughout the competition still use it to great advantage…

Not a big fan of Thursday night footy and if you had played this game on a Friday night or Saturday twilight we would have got another 15-20k I would have thought.

Thursday night games rate well for Channel 7 and Foxfooty so maybe give the majority of the games to the lower ranked clubs to try and boost their profiles. Clubs like St Kilda, Footscray and even Essendon ;)

Leave Friday nights and Saturday afternoons to the big boys.

I don’t know the ratings so it’s only a guess but Thursday nights would rate as high or higher than Friday or Saturday imo

It’s a tv time slot, nothing more nothing less. It’s not being done to maximise attendance that’s for sure.
But how good is it having footy for 4 out of 7 days a week

Little doubt there’s a lot of improvement in this team - that’s what’s so exciting.

So many on here expecting perfection which is ridiculous. Glass half empty people only see the negatives - Carlton has a lot of those for some reason??

It’s an imperfect game & our players are no different - others have used the word arrogant - expecting perfection despite our injury issues, players just returning, a top 4 opponent, our heavy game load - is in itself arrogant, in my eyes.

It’s on the coaching group to talk our players through instances like the one you referenced & improve their performance.

At least he’s trying to be proactive - rather than go into his defensive shell.

Thursday night is a shit night to go to the footy though.

That is clear evidence to suggest Voss does not understand mindset and the sub-conscious mind which is crucial in elite level sport.

Voss needs to be educated on it ASAP or it’s going to cost us a flag. Again.
How about you produce this 'clear evidence' that you speak of.

I thought he elbowed fresh air.

ANB throwing his head back before contact. After throwing himself on the ground from Cowans love tap.

Dead set cheat. Should be fined for staging on the Newman one.
The vision from behind Newman showed fresh air. But certain segments of the media will be baying for blood.

A common factor I’ve noticed in the last three matches is us being undone by individual stars. Cameron, Daicos, Petracca. Are our coaches failing to identify and lock down individual players, or are our players not exercising instructions properly? Are we identifying and locking down the wrong players? Too offensively focused? Or are they just too good? Thoughts?

what the TDK situation?

I think I got a bit confused. My wife is down with Covid and can barely get out of bed so I was making sure she was ok and making her endless cups of tea and getting painkillers, helping my daughter with homework all the while Sinjin Jnr was watching upstairs. I could only get 10 mins or so to dash up and watch a bit and Sinjin Jnr told me he went off injured so assumed he was down for the match.

Hopefully Cerra's hammy is only minor and misses a couple of games. From what Ive gathered we really lost some momentum when he went off.
