Injury 2024 Season Geelong Cats Injury Thread

I don't think Hawk plays again and if that is the case then he likely he announces his retirement sometime around the Adelaide game and the club announces a major farewell for him at KP for the Eagles game. He deserves to say goodbye to the faithful at home and a ton of fuss and carry-on not likely to impact a game against the Eagles at home (they will likely have guys off having surgery in prep for next year). Also clears the decks for the finals so the team isn't distracted.

Why give an update on all them and not mention one word about Conway or Guthrie? Unreal.

They are mentioned in the report but there's no real update which is why I skipped that part - essentially neither are available this week and the club is hopeful of knowing more in the coming weeks

Post #420 of this thread gives more info on the current Conway situation than the club's report - https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/2024-season-geelong-cats-injury-thread.1377423/post-84289642

Hard to know what to make of Conway situation, presumably nothing on the scans not sure if that is a good thing or something horrible.

Doesn’t sound promising on Guthrie.

Regarding Conway, the Clubs medical team knows specialists in Sydney & Brisbane that they want Conway to consult with this week to get further opinions on his foot issue & what they believe is the best course of action

cats_09 didn't you have a rumour it was a navicular hot spot? Season done if true right?

Heard it from Toby himself

He had a sore foot the week of the Carlton clash and subsequent scans revealed a hot spot in the navicular on his right foot - yes there’s specialists available in Melb, but there’s a couple of specialists the club trust when it comes to injuries of this nature in Syd & Brisbane which is whom Toby was meant to be visiting this week

Until they get the additional reports from those specialists, I doubt we hear too much more from the club

Yeah that's his year I think, even if it's favourable

Also hope you told Toby we're all proud of him ❤️

Mitch Cleary tonight (Mon) reporting on 7 News that Conway is off to surgery and his season is over. Foot was mentioned but I don't think there was any specific mention of anything further.

Getting a pin in his foot to hopefully avoid a repeat of historical issues. Hopeful that it works and gets back in a couple of months for a full pre season

Is it navicular?

I don’t think so (but didn’t ask specifics)…it is same thing he had last year and they are very confident that a screw will prevent it coming back (they held off doing it first time hoping it wouldn’t re occur). He was in moon boot at VFL and I had a chat

(By the way it was great to see a good group of our young ones supporting the VFL - Toby, Dempsey, Holmes, Miers, O Henry, Lawson, Mitch Edward’s - also looks to be at risk of not playing rest of the year! - and young at heart Blitz! They looked very tight - we are in good hands)

Edwards not playing again this year?!

The issue was a hot spot in the navicular - that's as per Toby before the Hawthorn game

Unless the visits to the additional specialists identified a different issue
