I respect these views.

For me personally however, Moorabbin was a place in part
TO ESCAPE personal, family and professional mental health battles, even tragedies.

I went there perhaps 150 times between the 1960's and 1992.
It was an almost spiritual oasis of a place for me, even during the dark days of the 1980's.

Yes I admit it. The current set up at Moorabbin triggers me.

I will leave this issue now and perhaps seek therapy elsewhere?

Go Saints!
You know you can attend the facilities without utilising DFC?? :tearsofjoy:

Being a stkilda supporter means we need mental health support.

Now based on your support you probably have 30 years of extra baggage compared to most.

The fact the DFC is next door should be an absolute blessing for us and a godsend for those with your tenure.

Unfortunately the incidences of mental health issues in footy appear to have increased a lot since those years.
Stuv, Timmy, Liam Stocker - just to mention a few at our club alone, never mind others such as Tom Boyd.

Sign of the times unfortunately, but we need to look after the players that need it.

I'm a St Kilda person, older and perhaps politically incorrect.

I personally don't think our club should have any mental health facility at our home base. Locate it elsewhere. Footy focus only please.
Footy is just as big a mental game as is a physical game.

Hey Diehard,
Respectfully, I believe that these issues have always been around. Bill Morris, Jeff Fehring etc.
Tragic.

There.. isnt actually a story here at all. Like, the only thing that actually happened was Corben leaving for undisclosed reasons after the agreed change and "nameless sources" having an issue with a pre agreed handover of funds when the organisation became self sufficent.

Like, its not even stated that Corben left for any reason related to the funding change and may have been completely unrelated and/or personal reasons.

Its completely manufactured outrage to stock standard operating proedures for all charities.
The Hun is clearly alleging that the Saints have moved the goalposts. If that's true, that's outrageous.

Kirstan Corben, the inaugural executive director of the centre, walked away late last year after the Saints proposed to charge the registered charity for services and rent.

Sources close to the Danny Frawley Centre have described the move, which they claim is motivated by a need to “clear debts”, as “outrageous

Seems to me you either have a disgruntled ex employee leaking and/or someone with no understanding of commercial reality who thinks life is full of handouts!

The problem is, this is a very carefully worded sentence that can be easily interpreted as being both the cause or as incidental timing.

Non-profits literally exist on handouts, and if the Saints promised to cover admin costs, reaped the good publicity and then changed the rules, they deserve the bad publicity.

They are clearly leveraging on the same site all of the Club’s existing IT and other systems and personnel. The marginal cost for the Club which it would be seeking recovery of would be nothing compared with the DFC setting up their own stand alone sytems and staff. Cheapest deal you will get in Melbourne!

The executive director of the DFC quit because they didn't like the proposal of the football club, there definitely seems like there's a story there I don't think the Hun is just throwing mud.

The club has done amazingly out of the centre, we get to use the facilities such as the pool which were government funded, it has been a huge part of making Moorabbin an awesome facility. I can understand the uneasiness of then asking the centre which is a non for profit to start paying rent, especially with the "when they can afford it" tag which is really vague.

I'd suggest they were always there diehard, just now with the increased 'awareness' theres more noise around it. Proffessional athletes by defintion may have increased levels of perfectinism which makes them prone to certain mental illness I am guessing. Ie Anxiety/Performance anxity, depression, etc etc.

Right...... so the club should become entrenched in debt....... wonder how that would go for everyone involved.
Making cash = greed.
Clearing debt = not killing both the club and the DFC.
