More sense than a lot of the pundits who failed to recognise there wasn't a top tier mid available at our picks and we simply drafted best available rather than reaching.
Excuse the ignorance, but who is this guy.
Made a lot of sense regarding our draft. Couldn’t be bothered watching the rest.

You do get that compo pick, at the same spot where your pick would have landed
Na, think they should lose it. Or after their second pick 🤣🤣🤣
They’ve had far too many freebies already!

Finding out LDU was a Hawks supporter growing up makes me not as bullish getting him too the saints. Seems like they are going after Hawk supporters to sell them the dream, Mitchell being the one selling you the dream makes it even more exciting. I think over the next couple of years Mitchell is going to be snaping up players through trade and free agency. Also a thought I unfortunately have with Tauru, as i have no doubt Mitchell will be selling him the dream of being Sicely's replacement.

Since the end of the season. Mitchell has sent players and coaches into elite sporting organizations across the globe. This is on top of Mitchell already being mentored by Ange Postecoglou. Which is why I think a lot of people are sleeping on the Hawks.

They way they play football in how they carry themselves on the field is the polar opposite to us. It will be interesting to see what method prevails.

So at our Best & Fairest our Prez blasts the AFL for his words on Father Sons and Academy picks system and everybody called us sooks and whingers
After the Ashcroft pick last night all these people on social media complaining about the system.
Bunch of hypocrites
Our president was right. The problem is he's the president of St Kilda

Do the Hawks midfield need more guns though? I'd say they're sorted frankly. Salary cap may be an issue too.

I mean, it wouldn't be the WORST outcome for North if they finished bottom 4 and got band 1 compo for LDU. If there's a decent KPP they can trade the pick for or use in the draft it would probably be an overall improvement of their list balance. Wardlaw, Simpkin, McKercher, FOS, Powell, Sheezel and they just traded in Parker who they'll get for a few seasons.

Pick 2-5 compo for LDU hypothetically, they could trade for a decent key forward or key defender or draft a top tall. They also traded out their 1st round pick for next year so a compo pick wouldn't be a bad option for them.
Or it might be if they hadn't flung away their first rounder like a monkey at the zoo.

True to form the media have focused on all the wrong elements of Bassat's speech. No-one disagreed with him. No-one has said he's wrong because it's that bleeding obvious. But because he spoke out against the (dodgy af) status quo, there was an article the other day trying to call him and us hypocrites because the Saints didn't take any of our academy kids. You can guarantee if we did, that article would've squealed hypocrisy at us getting them cheap.

It's straight up Idiocracy at this point where critical thought would hurt brains.

I think it's time to dig into what can be done to the academies and father son pics.
The easy answer is to just get rid of them which ignores why we have them.

Father-Son for me is about the romance of a club and it's identity lovely for tribalism and shouldn't be ignored or cast out as it's unique to our game.

Academies provide important avenues for northern states to promote and expand the game and provide pathways for athletes to access an AFL career that are better than competing codes, which is a really big deal for the AFL. A comparison for how much an AFL player makes vs NBL vs Cricket is eye opening when we consider how many have a spot on a list.

I'd want to keep the Father-Son and the Academies but significantly change the bidding process.
First, no discount.
Second, if a player gets bid on in the first round then the matching bid must come from the first round.
Any shortfall in points has to be made in the current years draft.

Should’ve seen them all bitching on the main forum trade thread when Lions were getting their 2 picks Ashcroft and Marshall so cheaply.

And chance the penny might’ve dropped then? 🙄

As you say, no critical thought at all!

Any reviews on our live trading? Seems to have gotten the job done.
People focus on which players got drafted in evaluating how well a club did but you’ve got to take into account how they got the picks to select the players with.
Splitting 27, using two picks to get 28, trading in a future pick are where the list managers earn their money.
Compared to having 8 picks in the top 25 because half your team walk out, I think we did really well.

Hawthorn will be studied significantly over the off-season after their run. Often teams who have these sorts of seasons are worked out in the next year. They're still young and progress is usually not linear for young teams.

They do seem to get things right though. Casting Clarko aside for Sam Mitchell has been a great move. I'm hoping our transition to Enright can be similar in the next 3-4 years (ideally I'd love to keep Lyon in a consulting type role though).

The only difference between our president and those of the other 13 clubs affected, is that ours had the courage and integrity to speak out and state the bleedin' obvious.

If the others banded together with AB, perhaps the Dill and DEI girl would be forced into making reasonable changes to the most flawed system of the competition.

And, you need to be playing in the state of your Academy…not spending 3 years boarding in Melbourne and playing for a CtL club

Exactly. Is there a rundown of our live trading anywhere? Seems to have been glossed over on the night, I'm sure I've missed some trades.

That decision is such a joke - if academies are about "keep[ing] the best talent in Queensland", then they need to have the resources to develop the talent there. If a kid decides to go to another state, then it's open season.

In an ideal world, Essendon would have been content not to trade anything , and when no-one bid on Kako, take him with their first draft pick.

The whole Ryley Sanders thing last year was a joke. If they had this years rules, North would have got an extra first rounder.
I understand that some clubs nurture their players , and i think that needs to be a condition. You don't get an academy kid just because they lived in your zone a few years ago.

32 & 47 for 28 & 58
F2 for 45 & F4 (ESS).

You can also add the pick swap pre draft 27 for 32 & 45.
It doesn’t look major but it’s just making the most of what you have.
