Because Port can just say no to any deal that doesn't work for them? And he's publicly said he's happy to stay, even if his preference is clearly to move to Victoria.

Its not like everyone can expect his trade value to drop next year either. He's contracted for another 3 years.

I guess I'm not inclined to discount the likelihood it could be Papley 2.0?
You’re looking at this all wrong.

My understanding is our F1 is the back up option.
That is the fail safe move to get a deal done.
Unless Port is hell bent on this years draft, but you have a player who wants to come home for family reasons and at best you’ve got a guaranteed top 4 selection at the 2025 draft as an offer.
This much is true.

Yeh we’ll try and get a selection inside the top 10 this year, but this is why we have always been a distant 2nd option.

Houston knows a deal between North and Port is easier to get done and is his safe ticket home.

The issue is we’re shit

Cling to whatever hope you can I suppose. I’m saying it’s fact. If you don’t like my “mail” the ignore button is there for you to use!
If you've got ITK knowledge, I fear for the club because you're a completely negative poster, so it's f***ed if you know an insider who is feeding this negativity.

I save Ignore for the mega d!ckheads, not the eternal pessimists.

Umm, but you were previously saying that staying at Port is not an option for Houston. If all parties know we can get a deal done but he's reluctant because we're shit, doesn't that mean he'll stay at Port? Which you said wasn't happening?

He said that's why we're lower in the Houston preference order.

Your last line is the beginning, middle and end of all our problems.

It what five years of complete on field ineptitude brings.

It’s why jay Clark is writing stories about us asking about Maynard. We are a joke to everyone else.

But.

He wouldn’t be writing that story if we weren’t ****ing their plans for Houston right now

Ok but to return to my initial question...

In what sense are Collingwood frontrunners? Yes I get the argument that Houston would probably prefer to play for them. But they currently have no first rounders. They have no players on the trade table worth first rounders.

They're currently asking for GC's pick 13 + 23 for Noble (!!!) and the Pies' F1. That's insane. Even by Gold Coast's MO of trade season insanity, I would be amazed if that deal happened. Not least because St Kilda, Carlton, and Hawthorn are all offering their F1 and F2 for pick 13 alone.

If Collingwood can't get that deal with Gold Coast, they have nothing to offer Port.

He said that's why we're lower in the Houston preference order.

OK, fair. But we also know Collingwood and Carlton can't / won't offer as much as we have, so surely Port are only going to accept the best offer and it's not up to Houston to make a value judgement on who he goes to, no? If he does, he stays at Port, no?

I think they will try to facilitate him going to where he wants IF the deal is acceptable to them, even if it's not necessarily the best deal. They'd prefer us because we can offer the best deal.

Currently the deals offered by the other clubs aren't acceptable to Port.

Only way I see us using 25 in either parker or Daniel is if we're splitting 2. There is no way we go into such a strong draft with a hand such as 2 and maybe a couple in the 40s. Issue is so many other trade domino's need to fall for us to split 2.

...and my final thought for this evening - seems to me the flurry tonight has been prompted by the tweets from a few journos. Unsurprisingly they have got a professional interest in setting hares running (eg Maynard trade bombshell)

It's the start of the news week, so whether or not a story have substance is irrelevant because said journos can still write copy about stories that never happen.

In the cosmos of life, we are but part of the giant news cycle.

I know Max gawn.
He's a good bloke.
He's not interested in us.
That's the extent of my itk.
He would probably have the pork.
