If Carlton can cough up a deal that keeps Port happy, then they get Houston.

Trade will get done IMO. Players usually always end up at their preferred destination.

We should just be ready to step in if Carlton/Port talks breaks down.

How far will tarpies current pick's #39 and #57 blow out to after bid matching for father son's/academy pick's etc ?
Have to factor in the 2nd & 3rd round junk picks that will get eaten up when Lions/Suns/* and co. match bids on their players. #39 will probably stay roughly where it is, #57 would come in a fair bit.

I’ll be very disappointed if we trade down to get a future first. All it does is set your list back a year. Kids already take time, why postpone it another 12 months? And this is meant to be a deep draft with a bunch of obvious gun mids + but the bracket of players ranked 10-20 has bunches of elite talent but project types.
I think that it is more likely a matter of the player/s we want with our first pick likely to still be available later in the top ten. I'm sure we would also be happy to split the pick for two this year, but there are fewer options for that. Adding a future first also gives us the option to trade out our F1 if we intend using later future picks as well. This may be helpful in a late deal for Houston if things fall through with Carlton.

Houston is not worth crazy offers, especially if he wants to go to Carlton. Get Daniel instead

While it could backfire spectacularly, it would be funny if we traded our F1 with Suns (and maybe something coming back) for their 13. Would basically put an end to Carlton and Collingwoods hopes for Houston leaving us the last one standing!

Feels like we should just not announce our trade plans.
Every time a player we discover is gettable, 4 other clubs jump on them and they end up offering more.

I thought you couldn't trade a f1 and f2, yet the AFL article is suggesting Carlton do exactly that for a Houston trade...

You can't unless you trade in another f1 or f2.
The rules are strange though they all reference a document which is not available.

There’s also the element that hope everything goes bad. “I told you so” can be quite intoxicating to some.
I told you so on bigfooty is worse than the ice epidemic
