Because we are 3 years into a rebuild. If you want high end talent and list balance then you need to draft it, especially if you can’t recruit it via FA.

With the talls available and role players in other positions this draft is absolutely perfect for us, we should be having at a minimum 3 picks inside the top 30. It’s short sighted to think otherwise imo.
we went too young for a while there. This draft has proved we need a correction.

Run with Larkey, Comben and Darling in the forward line. I think that will be the sum of our tall forwards for 2 years. And they will be serviceable.

Use the 2 on the best player (probably a midfielder). That will mean that our midfield will be bursting with talent next year. There will be the opportunity to trade for forwards in 2025.

Could you imagine the possibilities if we had 2 Sheezels?

Caleb Daniel for 25
Something feels off

one is renowned for his impeccable professionalism, work ethic, leadership, and elite kicking skills

the other for giving himself half a chub before filming a shirtless instagram video and kicks to leading forwards that end in row z

That's the difference between the most attractive team in the comp getting an uncontracted player, versus a team that's been bottom 2 for 4 years getting a contracted player.

I know I am in the minority and a lot of people want us to split our pick 2, but with our limited list spots and the fact that we likely wouldn’t get another top 5 pick I would rather we use pick 2 and get a legit top talent. Ideally one with a different profile to what we have.

Then pick 62 see if one of the top performing mature agers are available, eg Bice and take River in rookie draft.

I really hope taking Konstanty isn't used as an excuse to not use any decent currency on a small forward at the draft. It is our biggest hole. We now have three small forwards on our list, two taken in the MSD and one as steak knives. We should move our picks around to make sure we get Hannaford.

Delist all 3 that aren’t signed up.

Drury has no elite traits - is just a trier.
Laz is a small mid with about a dozen mids in front of him and fumbles to much.
Cooper isn’t a small forward - more a lead up forward, we have 4-5 of them of better quality and doesn’t work hard enough.
Bring in 4 draftees

My take. We buckled. We paid overs in the end. Is that surprising? However I rate Parker. Happy that he is at the club. We overpaid for Daniel. Darling IMO is cooked. Konstanty hopefully will fill a need. But let’s be honest with each other. He is a fringe player as it stands. Anyway the problem now is we only have pick 2 and donuts until the 60s. Splitting pick 2 or trading futures to get back into this draft is on the cards. Personally I wouldn’t have done the Daniel deal for pick 25 and I would’ve wanted the Swans Future 3rd for trading 44. :stern look

I think we all agree that the Parker / Konstanty trade was a good one.

Darling is there for a pick that most clubs would be passing on, so if he's cooked it's break-even. I worry that he is, but it's a bonus to have his much-touted professionalism on the track and in the gym.

Yes, we overpaid for Daniel. Not by much, IMO. I suspect if we held pick 30 instead of 25 and used that, most here would be ok with it.

People say Brady has no balls in trading, but the Daniel trade is pretty ballsy really. It's essentially a gamble that we'll get 3-4 years out of Daniel that are better than the career of the player we might have chosen at 25 (about the 30th best player in the draft). It's likely that 1 or 2 players maximum that are taken from in the late 20s / early 30s will have a good career. IMO, it was a gamble worth taking.

Well, that absolute shit show is over.
I'll be giving it a miss next year until the last day. I have much better things to do than look for tweets from utter knob jockeys about basically nothing.

On another note -

Hold 2 until draft night unless someone comes knocking with a balls to the wall deal.

I reckon 3-4 teams will have us on speed dial as soon as pick 1 is read out.

Cooper is the only one who gives me pause. The other 2 need to go

there is room to keep 1 on the rookie list

im keeping coop his first year last year as a forward was impressive

id split but for no less than 6 and 10/11

I love how we have targeted each line for experience

Fwd - Darling
Mid - Parker
Back - Daniel

I think it will definitely hold us in good stead with keeping us in games a bit longer, holding leads and avoiding that total dip at the end of qtrs
100% Ligma - think of these 3 as on-field coaches that take the younger guys under their wing and show them what’s required to salute in the last day in September.

After the whole Houston distraction, I think Brady and crew have down a great job. I sense the 2 will be split, and then we can assess how well we have done halfway thru 2025. How people can make a call on how we performed in the draft without any games played is beyond me.

Look, it's not all him, but he kind of set himself up at the start of trade period saying we weren't going to dilute our draft hand too much. And now we have pick 2 and 62. Manage expectations my man.

Daniel is 28 mate! Been consistently reliable throughout his career. In his role he could be around as long as Zorko.

Except that Hannaford is like Konstanty when he was drafted, merely fantastic potential ...

**** off. Nick Larkey demanded the last campaigner we delisted

No.2: Jagga Smith - Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro

Position: Midfielder

Height: 181cm

A contested midfield beast, Smith showed his ability to win the ball in congestion during the Under 18 championships.

Smith had the most disposals for Vic Metro, averaging 29.3 and also went at an impressive 82 per cent disposal efficiency.

He also helped clinch the title for Vic Metro by winning the final clearance of the game to help set up Luke Trainor's winning goal.
