This is a recent development too.

Houston really wants to move but Port are being incredibly difficult with its demands. Especially when it's dealing with us.

We've given up on that race it seems. Would have to be a significant change in demands from Port for us to bite.
Plenty of time left for them to soften their stance when Dan gets antsy about leaving and they realise the Pies can’t give them as much value as us.

Happy to wait it out and see if they come back to us.

Yeah I get it, I do.

But we have to start winning. I reckon Clarko knows this as well. He is worried about what this group will become if we have another poor year.

I'm willing to pay overs. I know it's not fair, but our situation is just so unique. We have to get 5-6 plus wins next year.
so you are willing to trade a future second for caleb?

we need something coming back our way on top of it

future second for caleb daniel and a future 3rd

then use that future 3rd with pick 62 to get parker

turn a future second and pick 62 into daniel and parker

If Houston was ever interested in us, he would be a Roo by now. He doesn't want to come.

We should walk away because if he does come now it would be like Polec, coming to us to keep his misses happy and taking the most money on offer. I'm not saying he would be a no show like Polec, just he wouldn't be coming for the right reasons.

And we would be playing overs like we did for Polac. We could have had a Ben King or a Bailey Smith if we did it right. We are still paying for that, thanks Scott's and Joyce's.

Let's not be short sighted and make the same mistake.

Totally incorrect, how many times does it has to be said.... a lot of this is up to Port not Houston.... port are exploring all avenues as they have A right. This bloke signed a four yr ext only last yr!

Who in this year's top five has shown the potential that Sheezel and Wardlaw did in 2021/22?

It keeps getting asked, but I can't recall a single person who's answered this since the Houston debate started.

I suggest either would go at number one in this year's draft.

And even then we're talking about next years draft in all likelihood.

It's so easy to make that post but at the same time, you could ask if you'd trade Will Phillips for a 27yo two time AA.

The gamble of trading futures is always you're betting against the quality of the potential draftee while also betting for your team improving at a greater rate.

Anything I've seen suggests we are. Sam Edmunds was on SEN earlier saying he believes Houston is open to playing with us, we're in it and the Pies aren't necessarily his preference as reported elsewhere. Also reckons even if they get 13 from GC that this won't be enough with Richards. Carlton seem to be out as they won't trade out of this draft. We might be seen as a Bradbury on it but it's probably worth noting that even if we have the F1 offered and that looks like the best offer for Port, they've been pretty clear they want into this draft at this stage.
Who knows mate but I think based on what has been reported and how keen we are that we're at best a last resort for him and Collingwood seem keen enough to offer Port enough.

I think he's more likely to come to us than stay with Port. So there's that.

But I just think the chances of him coming to us are very low.

Hahahaha

My source is telling me Port want Pick 2 AND a future second!

Carlton has said piss off. We told them get stuffed. We were confident we could land him but Port are being ****wits. Not so likely anymore as initially thought unfortunately 😕.

My main sticking point here is what are they asking from Collingwood.

We were confident we could land him but Port are being ****wits.

I was confident that Port were f***wits before we started any of this.

I am not sure why we as a club didn't understand this from the get go.

Anyone want to trade Harry Sheezel or George Wardlaw for Jack Sinclair or Adam Saad?

No?

You sure?

Well that's where we'd be at trading picks 3 or 4 for an AA HB from the same year.

Screw your ****ing heads back on.

Ehh... this is such a bad comparison.

Sinclair and Saad are 29 and 30. They're also 178cm and 180cm.

Houston is 27 and 186cm.

Also, Harry Sheezel and George Wardlaw have shown what they can do. The odds of our draft pick being as good as them is well below 50% (and less than 5% for Sheezel).

Also, our F1 is 3 years from being in the position that Sheezel and Wardlaw are currently in.

No because he is happy to go there and is waiting for those clubs to make a deal that satisfies Port.

Port have been feeding the media for weeks that North want him and are willing to overpay so pony up other clubs. If Dan said I'll go to North it would been done by now.

He isn't waiting... port are waiting. And why would port have agreed to north until they see what Coll will offer. Appears Carlton have been flicked due to not satisfying port.... Carlton satisfied Houston and also his childhood club but that's not relevant, Carlton didn't satisfy port

Collingwoods non existent salary cap is really starting to raise eyebrows.
I am expecting a Melbourne Storm style scandal at cooking the books.

12 months on from a flag, how are they able to pay Perryman 900k a year and Houston 1mil.

It’s just off.

Carlton don’t have a cap either. I’m more bewildered they have their hat in the ring for Houston. They have TDK to sign next year and Walsh the year after.

I'm always mindful of an interview I heard with Chris Pelchen where he said he's not doing his job properly if he makes any trades that are not heavily in Hawthorn's favour before deadline day.
You could make the trade period 3 days or 3 months and still 90% of deals would happen on the last day, because nobody wants to find out they could have done better by holding out.

But still I refresh this feed and listen to trade radio, so who's really the stupid one?

i am on the don't trade a future first camp, could also be used as trade collateral next year for a big fish if needed

split pick 2 camp

otherwise keep both

You can trade back in! In a Couple of drafts time, you won't want to have many picks as they could potentially be pretty useless

I reckon you're right with the last two lines.

Yep, I am doing a future 2nd for him. It would be nice to get something back but I would do it even if we didn’t.

I know it’s overs, but a bigger risk would be to not take him IMHO.

I agree with a lot of your points. At what point do you think the club needs to show ambition to its supporters and playing group that they want to improve and turn things around quicker? There will be a tipping point in going back to the draft if our talented players don't think the club is doing enough to provide them with a platform to win sooner rather than later, and decide to explore option elsewhere.

I think we flick that switch when we can realistically expect to be challenging for the top 8.

Yes I agree re the importance of winning and why we are targetting players that will help have immediate impact. Emotionally scarring talented young players conditioned to losing breeds poor future leadership and the cycle continues. Rinse, repeat. We need to start winning and we need to start now.

Well pies aren't going to be able to do that either!

But I was reliably informed that we had built a great relationship with Port after the JHF Trade. Apparently it was win / win for everybody. :stern look
