Luke Parker broke his arm and was suspended for 6 games for a VFL incident. As soon as he could get back he never left the side to a grand final.

Daniel played 16 games for the year, 7 as tactical sub. He finished the season including a final in their best 22.

Parker was playing VFL though when he got suspended.

With his glowing CV, the 31-year-old midfielder was expected to waltz back into Sydney's best 23 once he was fit again following a broken arm suffered in February.
But with the Swans dropping just one game this year and Isaac Heeney and Chad Warner dominating in the midfield, Parker was relegated to four appearances in the VFL.

He was lucky Heeney got suspended to open the door for him again.

I'm responding more to say where the players were in their respective teams at the end of the year, not the start.

KANGAS HIT DANIEL ROADBLOCK​

NORTH Melbourne has held preliminary discussions with the Western Bulldogs around the potential of a Caleb Daniel trade, though the Kangas believe a move for the contracted defender remains unlikely.

Daniel is reluctant to officially request a trade to Arden Street unless a suitable agreement can be reached between the two clubs, but has interest in getting to North Melbourne by Wednesday night's deadline.

However, the Kangaroos have said their initial chats with Bulldogs officials "didn't get far" and reiterated their belief that Daniel – who is contracted through until 2026 – would be retained at the Whitten Oval.

Speaking to AFL.com.au's Gettable on Friday, North Melbourne list manager Brady Rawlings said the Bulldogs hadn't yet given the Kangas an indication of what they would accept for Daniel in a trade.

"Not sure on that one," Rawlings said of a potential Daniel deal.

"We certainly have interest. (But) he's a contracted player and he's contracted for another couple of years.

"I've had a chat with the Dogs and it doesn't seem like they have much appetite at all to trade him out. We'll keep in touch, but at the end of the day he's contracted for two more years and the Dogs want to keep him." – Riley Beveridge

It’s what set the tone though and allowed clubs to start asking the questions in the first place and for Caleb’s case, start speculating. For both these players in this case as well.

When players aren’t asking, more often than not, well, at the nmfc, it reads as a place to save your career. This reads more of a Fisher type scenario than a Higgins type.

I don't think there was any easing in - he wasn't in their plans except as brilliant depth to have. Even when he came back from the suspension, it was only due to Heeney's suspension and he was selected as sub.
Parker then made himself undroppable with a dominant performance in 1.5 quarters against who else but good old North Melbourne.
I just don't think he's really that different to guys like Hodge, Mitchell and Lewis. He wasn't in the Swans' plans this year until he took his one opportunity with both hands. He clearly is not in their plans for next year either.

I've got nothing to disagree with you, I appreciate talking with somebody that knows what they are talking about. I agree with the second paragraph. Parker only really got grouped in with the other poster having a swing at Daniel.

This guy potentially is ****ing over a club champion because he’s trying to give the impression he has the biggest dick.

When one of your club champions come to you and ask for a move to extend a career in its twilight, you do the deal, not play hardball.

I'm not fussed about Caleb Daniel one way or the other, tbh, but what's the point of "officially" requesting a trade?

If he was against it, there would be no conversation at all, and making something official and public just puts extra pressure on everyone.

If he would prefer to move but is OK with staying and/or doesn't want to burn his bridges at the Dogs, then it makes sense to not make any public statements.

i know - I can't beleive they are using John friggen Noble to try and unlock players like Humphrey.....

What this trade period has shown thus far is the days of the contracted player requesting a move and it just happening are long gone. Obviously Clubs are sick of being pushed around and accepting unders for their stock.

Probably is a logical re-balance.

Thank f*ck. The status quo of contracted players calling the shots had to stop.
