I’m envious

Probably atley
We brought in fisher which at best is the same level as atley
Fair call but Atley is 32 now and was never a needle mover.

Getting rid of senior players probably didn't do much for morale, but guys who were 28 or so, like Atley, Macmillan, even Polec and Pittard attracted no interest from other clubs (sorry to bring up Polec). And Dumont, Tarrant and earlier Bastinac did nothing at their new clubs.

Only Mason Wood and Ben Brown succeeded at other clubs. And Brown missed a lot of footy. Higgins was given opportunities at Geelong but couldn't cement a spot. Well done to Ryan Clarke for playing in a GF but he's gone too.

Essentially we had a big group of senior players who weren't good enough - there was going to be pain whichever way we went.

If port are wanting a pick in this draft for Houston and we are offering our f1 for next year does this mean we are having trouble splitting this years pick 2? I would have thought it best we split this years pick 2 and hand port one of those?
Splitting pick 2 is likely being held up by who gets 6, 10, 11, 13, 18. We likely have options to trade P2 and F1 with Richmond, Melbourne, St Kilda, Fremantle, Essendon, Gold Coast.

Once Rioli, Bolton and P13 are traded, we'll probably see the remaining trades fly through.

Now we aren't even being mentioned as a distant fourth option. Genuinely for the sake of both Rawlings and the club's dignity, pull our offer and move on. He's a great player and would be a wonderful get but is clearly not interested in playing for the club. Move on

No more "we're hoping to be involved". It's kind of sad

It is trade period, no single person or entity has any dignity during this period.

Not being tied to a precise timeframe, but players like Brown, Tarrant and Higgins to start with. All above average on field performers and culture setting players.

I get that there were contexts to all of them leaving and they weren't going to be around forever but good Clubs manage through that stuff all the time.

The cupboard was pretty bare after that.
Brown was stuffed, his output was terrible after he left us.

Tarrant left at the end of 2021 and there were rumours he wanted out after 2020 but stayed to fulfill his contract. Maybe we should have offered him two years and he would have hung around in 2023 not playing. He would have had the players respect etc. I was happy for Higgo to go at the time but recently in an interview Jy mentioned how gutted he was that Higgo left. It might have been good to keep him around with hindsight.

Turner, Froggy and Lmac are the only others we could have kept on that provided some sort of leadership tho. Maybe Jed Anderson as well. He and KT certainly wouldn't have let those two games this season go without a fight.

From the perspective of years ago, when they were all in the VFL together, he was still braining it while they were struggling.

Lazz has also been pretty hard done by IMO. Would've had far more opportunity if he was an earlier pick.

Nah that’s a load of shit to be honest. Go back and look at Watkins 2022 stats. He was hardly braining it. In fact on averages he was behind Lazz and Powell.

As for Lazzaro he’s consistently been rewarded opportunities for his preseasons and VFL form and sadly he’s just not quite up to the level.

Lazz is fit with no skills and no footy IQ.

Hard disagree brother

100% agree. We have the capacity to deliver the best offer, and the cap space to offer him whatever he wants, yet despite "He just wants to move to Victoria" there is absolutely no indication that he has even the slightest intention of coming to North. In fact, staying in South Australia seems more attractive to him.

Unless us and Houston are about the blindside the entire competition in a way that will be remembered forever, North even hoping to be involved comes across as really lame. Stop wasting time and get involved in profitable deals we can get done.

Apparently there's news Melbourne is willing to trade heavily to do 5 and 13 for 2 and 44. Surely North accepts that. It seems way overs, especially if the rumours are true re: you wanting Tauru.

I'd imagine highest Tigers would bid would be 6 and 18.
It's a fair trade on points, slightly in favour of NM.

6, 18 is unders, and you would be told to gagf...

Points don't mean shit unless you need points. No clubs in this scenario do. It's about what players will likely be available at those picks.

“What was your strategy this trade period?”

“We were hoping for a Bradbury”

Has trade period ever been this dull?
First week is usually pretty boring, was it last year there were a few trades to break it up?..
Outside of Monday and Friday this year, nothing

Looking back, the cliff we jumped off had less to do with removing players that were over the hill, and more to do with needlessly removing experienced gun players that could have helped lead/develop the next generation.
