Why wouldn't we keep 2, trade our F1 for 11 and keep our F2? We can say the F1 would be a top 5 pick but 5 for 11 is better than 2 for 8 imo.

There's too much risk involved with trading our future first.

There's still a very real chance that not only is it pick 5, it's pick 1 or 2. Trading that for pick 11 would be disastrous, and I'd guarantee this board would be demanding the instant dismissal of everyone involved should it eventuate.

Free Agency and academy bidding have ruined the value of second round picks. Should we finish with pick 5, our second round pick would end up at around 30 on draft night.

2 + 30 for 8 + 11 + 45 is a much better deal than 5 for 11 in your hypothetical. Especially as next year's draft won't be as historically even as this year.

I think it's the iffy list balance thing that people take issue with. Pick 2 is hardly a burden, and in theory 9 over 3 years should be more than enough BUT:

We're STILL relying on bargain basement recruits/mid-season picks/natural medium forwards to play the role of small forwards, and

We STILL have no reliable second key forward. I want Comben forward and Corr/Logue to handle stuff down back, but even he isn't reliable, injury-wise, and the alternatives are Darling, Pink and Teakle, all of whom have colossal limitations.

That is an indictment on Brady and the list management team. So even though I like the fact that Daniel's arrival pushes McKercher up the ground, I can see the annoyance at picking up a 28 year old midget with a pick that may have been able to be used on a key forward
Who do you think Wil Dawson is ? He is CHB in waiting.

I've run all opposition posts through an analyser, a collective mind dump if you will.

Here are the results.

North Melbourne
OUT: #2, F1, F2
IN: Gary Rohan, #30

Richmond
OUT: #30 (held by Fremantle)
IN: #2, North Melbourne F1 & F2

St Kilda
OUT: St Kilda F1
IN: St Kilda F1*

We can trade back in next year if we like though. I just don't see why we'd be keener to trade 2 in this draft than 3-5 (and that's excluding we may somehow improve more than anyone imagined) next year. There's far more avenue to swap wholesale picks with the Tigers if they are keen on our F1 as they need to swap 1-2 of their picks in this top 25 because of their list management. It could be the F1 for 11 and an early pick in the 20's, probably suits the Tigers more than the Saints F1 (and us more with that pointless Saints F3).

Between Connor Meredith, Tom Jefferies, Red Og Murphy and McGuiness, we've sucked at identifying cat B rookies.
At best 1 in 20 make it comp wide, not really a high priority. Need to continue the work on bringing our development program up to speed, before we worry too much about it.
You miss every shot you take - Wayne Gretzky.

Brady still isn’t aware of what a cat b rookie is
People keep spinning all kinds of reasons why don't explore this space, like there's some great qualification process required to find a player through this pathway.

Meanwhile just about every other club finds players this way. Sometimes they're even the son of the North Melbourne president.

We are void of finance to properly fund CatB rookies and development. We are a coach or two short in the soft cap (the tightest club on the soft cap in the comp too)

Dont be asking for it, it aint happening. Our money fills other holes

Keep Pick 2 and trade out F1 for 6 from Richmond or 7 from St.Kilda.
Reach at pick 2 for a KP player and take best available at 6/7 Should be plenty left at 6/7.

If big IF we would get our hands on 6 or 7 with F1 I would go Draper at 2 and either Tauru or Armstrong at 6/7

Ok, I’m sold.

I will now do the standard BF thing and base my strong draft preferences on 3 minute videos and draft profiles.

Thanks for the highlights package.

I see the 2nd coming of LDU in this bloke.
