Game Day 2024 Trade Period - Lian Yu - that liminal space between trade and draft.

Shockingly we've learned that Richmond fans tend to agree with pro-Richmond trade hypotheticals proposed by other Richmond fans.

Imagine coming on here and liking trades from your own group of supporters. "Yes yes fellow Fremantle Docker supporters, I too like the deal that is the Tigers definition of middle ground"

Freo can very clearly say "No we don't want Shai". But they do want him so now we see what suitable compensation they are going to cough up. The ball is in Freo's court. Let's see what happens.
Mmmmmm, not really.

We can still just walk away. The ball is equally in Richmond's court as it is in Fremantle's.

As has been asked numerous times, who has more to lose if this trade doesn't go through. Freo with 3 first round picks in their hands or Richmond having to deal with a disgruntled player who only shows his best when in a good team when Richmond are a long way off being a good team again.

No it's in Freo' court. Shai is contracted to Richmond. He is choosing to leave. Freo want him....they can come and have him.....at a suitable price.

That's how the trade period works. Freo can very easily say No Deal and Shai stays at Richmond.

10 & 18 has to be the end point that Richmond might get if they negotiate hard enough, and that depends on how Bolton's salary is paid.

The lad turns 26yo in December. You factor in after 30yo you're not getting the same player. You don't give 2 x first rounders up for a player for 4 years at his peak. He might be a handy player after 30yo but you are using picks that are equivalent to a pick 2 where you'd expect to get a 250 game player.

If this draft is deep enough that you can get 2 quality players at 10 & 18 the option to walk away is real.

How bad do you want pick 11?

I hazard to guess more than we want Shai.

It's the most annoying ****ing argument they keep putting forward. Both teams win in this trade, pretending like Freo are the ones that have to get it done is just huffing your own farts.

Yeah and that is what is going to happen if 10 and 18 is not accepted by Richmond.

We should be saying that now WC have 12 if we give up 11 then they’ll get Bo Allan and we simply can’t let that happen.
Then watch them tell WC that so they pay a future 2nd to move up to 10 on the night to pick a guy we were never picking anyway...

Richmond are in an interesting spot.

There’s no chance in hell after losing Rioli and Baker, plus the pasty faced backman, whose name I always forget, they are winning more than a couple of games again.

They keep Bolton they still only win 2 or three games but they now have two picks less to rebuild.
1, 6 14, 20, 23, 24 is a great hand no doubt and most clubs start a rebuild with a **** load less.
But add in 10 and 18 there and things look really tasty.
Quite happy to leave 10 and 18 on the table. Otherwise, Berry and a couple of other potential guns is tasty for us

I mean 8 picks before 24 is like GWS levels of candy dropping in a super draft. Probably similar to what we did on 08, but with even better picks

Richmond need as many draft picks as possible to help with their rebuild. The 2024, 2025 & 2026 drafts are important periods for Richmond because in 2027 the new Tasmanian team will be entering the picture for the draft and they'll probably get the same draft concessions which were handed to Gold Coast & GWS. In 2028 the new Tasmanian team enter the League.

If Freo never had collingwood’s pick 10, Richmond will be more than happy taking 11 and 18, maybe even giving something back.
10 and 18 is more than fair, even considering Bolton’s contract.
Don’t think Bolton can be upset at Freo if it doesn’t get done at 10 and 18. We’ll just try again next year when we had less to deal.

Would be happy if Richmond chose to walk and we bring 10,11, 18 to the draft. Can imagine the offers we’ll get on draft day for 10…
