Game Day 2024 Trade Period - Lian Yu - that liminal space between trade and draft.

Trading pick 9 for a very likely top 3 pick next year is far from stupid.

I know you’re all on the every pick next year will be spent on Warner train - here’s a crazy thought ……you take a likely top 3 pick everyday of the week and don’t take Warner or stick to your guns at the table.

Crazy to me is we could take pick 9 trade it into next year, and then take pick 3 next year and trade it for 9 & and a late 1st.
If they trade the pick to next, they won't be sticking to their guns, the pick will be going to Warner. Instead of hopefully two picks in the teens, it would be one top 5 pick. Any value we gain on moving the pick is literally just lost on trading for Warner.

It is a net zero move at best and loser thinking. Use the pick this year.

Isn't AFL extending future trading next year though?

Could also flip 18 into an F1 on draft night?

The issue I have with this is the believing that Fremantle will be given an exemption to trade future picks when we haven't used a first round pick in four years. That doesn't happen for Freo.

well our F1 might be pick 21 or 22 next year so not necessarily a bad result

Freo could trade that pick #3 for a couple of later picks a lot easier than a pick in the teens.

I don’t think that’s a bad thing necessarily.
If Richmond will take 10 and our future first, trading 11 for North’s future one, leaves us with 18 and 30. I also don’t necessarily agree that Sydney will take two late picks

I dont mind which future 1st we have next year, so long as it's only one.

Sydney would have to accept it like everyone else has to accept it eventually. Seriously, find me an instance ever where someone clearly moved a pick to next year to make sure they can satisfy someone in a trade

You are trading for Chad Warner, if you have pick 3, you are giving up pick 3. Nothing surer

We did it with Collingwood just this year

Anyone who listened to Wallsy on DockerTV get the impression that he was excited about the use of draft picks further into the future starting next year? Could be what they are intending to do re: Warner.

I think it can be similar to when Brad Hill went to the Saints, they stuffed around picks picks and then sent us the slightly later one it ended up being.

Freo can do the same. The most and only valuable thing is Warner's nomination when he is out of contract. We can turn #3 into #8 and #24 then trade #8 and #30 to Sydney for Warner.

No because Chad Warner is worth 3 times as much as Brad Hill

No we didnt, Bolton wasnt on the agenda yet. We saw a chance to get better value and took it. Same as Port.

Additionally, Chad being uncontracted next year is the reason we shouldnt be moving value.

#8 and #30 for Warner?

Put the crack pipe down.

If we somehow managed to get Bolton and Kosi - I can't see how we would get Warner in anyway.

To me it is crazy and I don't want to get into it with you or any of the other posters who I very much like, however if Warner doesn't come ......we've really thrown away a golden opportunity to get ourselves into a potentially golden situation of a highly competitive team combined with a great draft hand.

Also no one can explain why if we get a top 5 pick Sydney take that, yet if we go in with only pick say 15 - they don't hold out for that and our 2nd rounder and/or F1. Why are we tough in one situation and weak in the other.

Other scenarios are - use an upgraded pick to get Kosi, use it to get Warner but keep our pick and our future pick or just use the bloody thing and get a top talent.

I don't necessarily think we'll be able to upgrade to the extent where it would be acceptable, however using the logic here ....if the deal for Bolton was 9 & 16 for Bolton and their F1, we'd say ......we don't want that F1 - give us 36 this year.
