Game Day 2024 Trade Period

I really don't think people are suitably pricing in the reality that with Bolton's family already here there isn't a future with him playing on at Richmond and spending considerable time in WA during the season for personal reasons will reduce his trade price end of 2025 to a token gesture.
Or the reason they’re already here is because we’ve agreed to pay what he’s worth and the deal is as good as done

Every year we get told it’s a super draft so I don’t read too much into it. 3 out of the last 4 drafts have been kinda meh with 2021 being the exception.
Walls wasn’t too excited by last years draft. To the point where he was happy to trade out our first pick and the Collingwoods pick into this year

I don’t think our depth stacks up too badly if you stack it up against most other teams tbh.

We’re short on one or two roles depth wise but so is pretty much every team in the competition. For example Pat Voss is probably a better footballer than whoever is going to replace Joe Daniher next season. Most on here wouldn’t have even heard of the three guys Brisbane had as emergencies last week. There was only four best 22 players out so if they had so much depth why’s there two youngsters with sub-10 games each (not like they’re high picks either) and a spud KPD previously delisted by St Kilda as their emergencies?

Joyce was an emergency because two better key defenders on the list did their ACLs. Realistically I think it was just two best 22 players who missed the grand final in Coleman and McCarthy, and McCarthy is debatable with Lohmann emerging. Doedee too much of an unknown given 2 ACL tears now.

Reville, Prior and Robertson have shown a bit at AFL level from time to time and all could easily have been the emergencies instead of the players named there.

I'd agree that most teams depth isn't really that good - no one can cover good players missing.

Nah, this late on people are pretty forthcoming about the quality of the draft. Nobody was really hyping up any of the 3 draft classes you're talking about. Especially not 2022.

The "next year's draft is amazing, trust me" is the one that happens more, but even that I think is overblown.

Bolton is a downhill skier, but adds a different dimension.

Downhill skiers need to be as surrounded by defensive minded group to balance it out.

Brad Hill was a down hill skier, they have a role.

Not to tell you how to suck eggs on your board but reckon downhill skier is an unncessary pejorative term for Bolton. Yep, he's hyper offensive, but you should set up your team's game plan to encourage that.

He's also not just a small forward - he's a legitimate impact clearance player as his 2022 showed, where he played a heap of midfield time and had over 80 shots on goal whilst still averaging 3 and a half clearances a game.

Can't think of a better match of a player to your team needs.

If we were into Jack Martin is there a chance we could look at Gary Rohan? apparently doesn’t want to retire and pretty similar to Martin. I think it’d be terrible but seems like we’re shopping in the dfa department

Any chance the Bolton deal is 10, 11 (actually 12, 13 by draft night) with next years second rounder coming back (pick 19 likely before compo picks etc)?

I’m starting to think our first and 3rd picks won’t be enough and it will have to be the first 2 with something back, but they might want to keep 21 this year.

I don’t think our picks sliding a few places in this draft is a big issue. Everyone knows it’s very deep and even. Cal Twomey said the other day there will be guys taken at pick 40 who in previous drafts would have been pick 20

I'm close to certain that the Bolton trade will go like this, They'll ask for 10 and 11. We will say no, but how about 11 and 18? They'll say no. Then we will go, how about 10 and 18, and they will go, yeah, that sounds okay but give us a little more.

Then it will end up being 10 and 18 plus a swap of later picks and we all walk away happy.

I hope you’re right but also we need “how about you pay half his salary and we’ll give you 10 and 18”

Even if we were interested in Rohan there’s a zero percent chance he moves interstate while his daughters live in Victoria

Let's go a blast from the past from 2019/20 and try to sign Mason Cox.

I'm wondering how Bolton will go under our game style. Richmond have been very free flowing with space for Bolton to work in.

We play a more rigid structure and a lot of the time it's slowly into packed forward line with the defence already set. Will he need to adapt or will the addition of his pace & skill allow us to be more daring.

Adding to this, although 10 and 18 are a big price for Bolton, he is going to transform how our forward line functions. It's like slotting prime Sonny in there. He's a major threat in the air, whilst also being one of the most damaging players in the comp at ground level. His 2022 was absurd and I think in the right system he can better that.

We would've finished top 4 and contended fo the flag this year if we had Bolton in our forward pocket. 0 Chance we lose against Port, Blues, Pies and Essendon with him.
Having him this year yes.
Next year will be a different kettle of fishes.
Every team in the AFL will be looking to improve.

Think our game plan needs refinement.

To me where Bolton* is going to thrive is from our centre clearance work.

If we can have - Serong, Brayshaw, Young roving to a fit Darcy ……quick ball into a forward line of Treacy, Amiss, Switta & Jackson….Bolton should have a field day.

“So long as Bolton plays his “role”” 😏

To put it in other terms, Fremantle is the club that is the best fit for Shai and he is the perfect fit for Fremantle.
It is compelling.
Acquisitions like this is what you stake premierships on.

I sat there and watched him tear strips off some young Richmond player for daring to cut in front of him and get his first AFL goal , the whole rest of the Tigers were giving him the ol attaboy and Bolton was going apeshit at the kid …. one of the most floggish things I’ve ever seen a player do in footy

Throwing in the towel when things aren’t going his way is another criticism you hear about him a lot

the showing the ball running into goal bullshit

Maybe we need a bit of arrogance in the team but it’s a pretty delicate balance

Most of the Tiger fans saying we’d be mad not to take this deal spent all of last year hating on the bloke and are secretly chuckling behind their hands

50/50 wether this deal is what everyone hopes for or just another in our long list of trade disasters for mine
